Playoff Live Thread: Cavs vs. Pacers, Game 2 (#Whatever…)
2018-04-18
Well, Game 1 is in the rear view… and the hope is for Game 2 that the Cavaliers aren’t too complacent to read past the first word of this year’s team playoff slogan. It certainly seemed like it in their sleepy, sloppy dud of an opener to the post-season. Actually, I have no room to talk, since I missed the game entirely due to some work and family commitments… but the high low lights were painful enough to glance through. If you want a salient and informative breakdown of some of the finer points, make sure you check out David’s Woodshop article if you haven’t yet.
LeBron has been on the record many times about how playoff seeding isn’t important to him, and now the Cavs find themselves essentially in the five seed after losing home court advantage in the series to the Pacers. Whatever you feel like blaming the loss on… be it LeBron’s early passivity, his newer teammates inexperience or inability to gel under the bright lights of the playoffs, Kevin Love either not getting enough shots or not demanding the ball in the post more, poor defensive rotations, awful coaching, general make or miss league variance or even Victor Oladipo’s revenge for Dan Gilbert taking veiled shots at him over the summer… it’s one game, and it’s over. That said, there’s probably never been a second game of the first round more important to win than tonight’s game.
Ty Lue has been teasing changes to his starting lineup since about five minutes after he walked off the court on Sunday… but still no definitive word yet (and now it’s official).

We do know that George Hill is a bit banged up after that hard screen, and that Rodney Hood was excused from practice earlier in the day… here’s why…
Looks like Rodney Hood welcomed twins into the world this morning. https://t.co/VgX2Y3oPsq

All that really matters though is that LeBron comes out aggressively, Kevin Love demands the ball in the post, the Cavaliers’ sharpshooters actually make some shots, and the Cavs play with more intensity and physicality on defense… y’know, like a team that actually does whatever it takes to win… rather than just whatever.
My predictions haven’t been great lately, so I’m just going to say the Cavs should and will win this game, although it won’t be easy, and it will take a better triple double from LeBron than Sunday’s triple double.
Catch all the action starting at 7pm EST on TNT… and as always, chime in here with your thoughts along the way.
GO CAVS!

Dipo should have 4 fouls with that uncalled pushoff on JR on the other end…
Dipo got away with one, then gets the banana foul…
Wow dipo got shafted on that love three foul. Glad they didn’t call the lean in.
Hardly. Makeup call for the uncalled one earlier.
OLADIPO WITH #3!!!
The banana Republican!

Is love seriously hurt again?
Cavs do not foul when they should. 4 on 5 you gotta take a foul
Cedi please…
Nice move KLOVE!!!
THREE on Dipo!
How is that not called??
Great. Somehow love is gimpy again
He tweaked ankle on the landing…
Gotta make the corner threes Kev…
Miracle shot sabonis
Merry Christmas Sabonis… sheesh
There’s some guy sitting near the Cavs bench rocking an epic mullet
Make your throws Bron…
Probably need Love or Lebron on the court always, and actually go to them, not ignore them…
Cavs in the bonus!
Korver back in…
LBJ has about 6 min to get another 20 points.
And that starting lineup was fun af.
I only want Clarkson spotting up for open threes or running on the break at this point.
Wheres Korver?
Clarkson didn’t seem that bad to me.
Booker just played his way to the bench really stupidly
Booker might have to be paid a visit by Mr. Perkins.
JR – Oladipo likes to go to his freaking right. Stop giving him the opened lane.
Cavs deserve to lose to any team in the playoffs that features a player drafted afer Anthony Bennent. Still crushes me.
Cavs either need to double Oladipo or foul him hard
Booker tryin’ to be a tough guy… put Perk in!
Cmon Kev, gotta convert those…
Love needs to be more physical you have mismatch in post why pass it?
Indy isn’t going away. Going to be a grind.
This could also be our best 5: Hill, JR, Bron, Love, Nance.
Down to 7.
Good lord we suck guarding oladipo
Can’t give him that running start.
So does everyone…
As expected single digits
Clarkson at PG continues to be not smart.
NICE DEFENSE KLOVE!!!
Clarkson is not ready for the playoffs. Nance totally is. Hood starting to feel himself in the flow of the game
Get Clarkson out. Hate that shot. Lue needs to basically tell them to post love everytime
Nothing wrong with that shot. It’s when you take it five times in a row.
Not when you have love in. He should be the primary option. Screw the midrange contested pull-ups with 16 seconds on the shot clock. Dumb offense.
Nice D, kev
Jordan Clarkson should not be on the court as the primary ball handler.
Here comes LeBron…
KLOVE WORKING IN THE POST!!!
Nice hook kev.
Jeff green should run point. Honestly. He cannot be off ball on the perimeter
I think when he and Clarkson are on the floor together it makes sense.
Run pick & roll with Jeff as ball handler. If he gets a small, back him down. Take the big to the hole. If doubled, pass to the shooter.
Marv is lke an NBA2K announcer at this point…
Love in the post! Heavenly!
Too many jumpers.
Love for Jose.
Marv still not paying attention
Albert getting senile.
Also you can’t give dipo that much space
Can’t let him get a running start.
Booker racking up the fouls…
Marv is missing a bunch of foul calls tonight.
Jose gets called for a lot of crap
Dammit…. don’t sit Calderon!!! Clarkson at PG alert.
We don’t really have an offense that runs anything.
Bad defense out of oob
Nice recovery defense LNJ!!!
Great strip of Dipo!
Just saw McMillan smelling a fart
Jose, Clarkson, Hood, Green, LNJ.
Green should be in the post in this lineup. And holy hell that was a block
NICE CALL REFS!!!! THAT WAS A CHARGE!! SHUT UP WEBBER~!!
Haha Lance, ya douche
Green absolutely hacked on that rebound… no call
HOOD FOR THREEEEE!!!!!!!! AGGRESSIVE!!!

Hood three. That would be nice if he is aggressive and can create for himself
Ty refusing to play Love & Nance together.
Damn LNG.
OM MY LARRY!!
LNJ SKYS FOR THE BLOCK!!!!!!!
