Playoff Live Thread: Cavs @ Raptors, Game 2 (Do They Blow It Up?)
2018-05-03The Cavs return to the Air Canada Center for game 2 against the Raptors, and the stakes are actually high, just not for the Wine & Gold. The Raptors have faced their demise against the Cavs in the past two playoffs. Last year Cleveland beat them in just four games after taking six games to do the same in the 2016 playoffs. If the Cavs can take game two tonight, the Raptors will hear the noise that they just cannot get past LeBron James.
It’s hard to see them being able to come back from 0-2 and win at least two games on the road or even win four of the remaining five games. I’m getting ahead of myself though. Game one in the series was hard fought by both teams, the Cavs just weathered the storm better down the stretch after coming back from being down by as many as 13 points. Let’s get into tonight’s game.
Three Things To Watch
1. LeBron had a bad game 1. He said so himself to media. He put up 26 hitting just 12-30 from the floor and 1-8 from deep. He also contributed 13 assists and 11 boards. LeBron is sort of right, even though was a large reason why the team won. He won’t be that inefficient again, and he won’t be as tired as he was in game one after playing an emotional game seven against Indy just a day before. The Raptors may think they covered LeBron well last game, but they are fooling themselves. James was just off.
2. Kyle Korver got 17 shots up in game one. That must continue. He hit five of his 12 3-points shots. J.R. Smith needs to keep shooting too. He dropped five of his six 3s. Now, the Cavs must use that gravity this game. Korver and J.R. took just one shot at the rim between the both of them in game one. Teams don’t expect them to cut into the paint, so they can get quality looks when they do actually go down low. Watch in the video below how J.R. Smith is guarded after setting a screen for George Hill. Both Toronto players are pointing to the 3-line. That’s where they assume he’s going. Smith misses the layup shot, but that shot will be there for both him and Korver all night if they want it.
3. The Cavs started Kyle Korver on OG Anunoby. LeBron James started on Serge Ibaka. Tyronn Lue should consider switching those assignments. OG was able to burn Korver a few times with pure speed. He’s not the best 3-point shooter and he’s young, so you don’t necessarily need to stay out on him. LeBron James should cover OG mainly because it would allow him to drop back into the paint with less worry than when he is on Ibaka. OG wants to drive when he can or cut to the hoop. James will stop him if he does that and if he rains from deep, so be it. Serge Ibaka is a good cover for Korver because he’s the type of guy that’s been popping out to 3-land more frequently. Korver doesn’t need to help down low as often as he did in game one. He’s not as well suited to that as James. Ibaka took just three of his eight shots in the paint, so he’s not trying to bang. One of his inside shots was even a tip-in. Korver may not be the biggest guy, but he can play decent post defense and he will stop a lot of the tip-ins that happened in game one just because he boxes out consistently.
The Cavs have a great chance tonight. They survived a ‘poor’ LeBron game and got the win. James should be looking to dominate and take this series quickly with a bounce back performance, so I’m picking Cavs 121-111.
Great charge drawn by Love!!!
Is it me, or are the raptors having a hard time breathing. Oh my god they are choking. Somebody get some help
LBJ… bad decision…. take JV off the dribble.
good….. good….
Four fouls on Lowry!
WOOHOO!!!
Huge start…
LBJ easy J BABY!!!
Lowry looks like a broken man
4 on Lowry!

Friggin play Cedi or Nance or Jose in his minutes.
Great finish JR AND ONE!!!!
First lead since the opening minutes…
I love the cutting and Bron passing…
Kyle has only taken one shot… big difference from the 17 last game…
I don’t like it… but maybe they’re focused on him.
We can still absolutely lose this series, but man Ill take the raps any day. so much softer
Put in Cedi, win the game. Hill, Cedi, Lebron, Love , TT
Verizon/Sprint guy has to be one of the most successful purely commercial actors of all time. He must have made so much money over the years just from those two ad series. Must be like 10 years straight of those national ads.
Medically speaking I imagine there are a bunch of tight sphincters in Toronto right now. And the Raps supposed improved D pales in comparison to Indy. James will go wild if itâs close in the 4 th
I like your diagnosis doc.
The Raptors look ready to implode again. We keep talking about Lie being too calm, but how about Casey who is always furious. That passes on to the players making them more nervous.
If it stays close, Lebron may try to take over later…I would be crapping myself if I were Drake…
Cavs certainly caught up in the rebounding department… 20-17 now… helps when Raps start missing shots…
Calderon for Hood is so effing obvious. And Osman for Clarkson should be next.
But that would yhrow shade on the trade. We cannot have that.
Let’s see if the raps crumble again.
Gonna need someone to explain to me why Clarkson is getting minutes. Then someone else to explain why Hood is. But at least Hood usually doesn’t damage with intent.
I actually think the opposite. At least Clarkson isn’t afraid to shoot. Hood is crapping himself on offense.
Fair point, but they are both crapping the, selves on offense. One could argue that Clarkson is a bit better on defense. But Osman is better than either on that end.
Have to agree… both aren’t working on offense right now. Also agree I see more fight in Clarkson on defense. Also agree that Osman is better than both on the defensive end.
I have given up. Think they are going to stay in the rotation.
Cavs need to be more physical on defense. Need to keep going to Love in the 2nd half as well.
Halftime….mute time…
Well raptors can’t feel good about that end to the half. Hit a ton of 3s AND cleaned up their turnovers from game one and Cavs still only down 2. Cleveland can turn up the defense probably. Not sure how much the raptor s can.
At least Love is actually making a shot…would be nice to see JR get going…
LBJ nice jumper to end half.
Raps just played probably their best half… Cavs still down just two…
Yup… that was their peak offense.
Yeesh. Not even close on those fts. So much for sustained ft shooting from lbj
Such a terrible shot by Bron, but it goes.
Good half.
I almost screamed when Green faked taking that second chance three…
Nice fake! Fooled me too!
Ugh… gotta make the throws Bron… could have been tied…
Come on Bron you got to hit those.
Wow cavs with a lucky bounce a unlucky rim out and then a borderline blocking call. Big foul on lowry
WOW sloppy sequence there! LBJ gets a star call finally.
Raptors feel like they are imploding again
God, Lebron and his FT shots…
25 straight, then missed like 6 of 10.
His FTs are always a shark show…think he has it figured out, then back in the dumper…
George Hill is so good for this team, i.e., for Lebron.
Tech on Casey…
Three on Lowry…
Good call there.
Have to post this since it’s so rare to see a Love dunk…

I bet the Cavs just want to keep this game within reach and then watch the Raptors choke again.
Raptors only up three. Their d not so great either. Not good for them though if the Cavs decide to turn up the pressure in the second half.
JR with the touch!!! TT got touched up by Lowry’s elbow!
OH BOY!
TT got cut over the eye from Lowry elbow
BIG turnaround!
That’s some crazy good luck for the Cavs on that bail out… I’ll take it! Balances out the lucky bounces the Raps have been getting on shots…
That shot looks like it should count…tough to say…
It should count.
There should be continuation on that foul call.
WOW! Did Hill get the and one also?
Raps making a lot fewer turnovers tonight…
Yeah. Nowhere near as sloppy in the second as last game. Kind of amazing Cavs are only down 8 with how many threes they have hit, but Love has provided a huge boost offensively.
Korver bad foul.
Korver just seems off and tired this game…
He’s been awful on defense and doesn’t have his usual energy cutting and running off screens on offense…not really moving much at all on offense…
Awful call
LBJ SPIN MOVE!!! CLASSIC!
KK what are you doing?
“beautifully, he looked right over at Lebron”………………. ?
I truly hate that foul call…the ultimate bail out…
TWO MAN GAME WITH KLOVE AND LBJ!!!! PERFECTION!!!
Dumb foul by KK…
KLOVE WITH THE VICIOUS DUNK!!!
The Cavs have returned to their bad defensive habits
Right Down Yonge Street!
Cavs d not great but they already took one and are playing with free money. Will be interesting to see if they turn it up or coast this game
