Preseason Live Thread: Cavs vs Pacers 2018-10-08 Off By Nate Smith Cavs take on the Pacers tonight sans Love, Nwaba, Hood, and Clarkson. The Pacers are missing Evans, Thad Young, Cory Joseph, and Edmund Sumner. Preseason Recap: Cleveland 113, Boston 102 (or, Smith Memes and Smart Steams) Preseason Recap: Indiana 111, Cleveland 102 (or, We Wanna Be Just Like You, Dad)
I thought Ty said Nwaba would play the last two games. Yes?
Recap is up, folks. Sorry for the delay. Meetings this morning.
I am gonna say something that hasn’t been said for a while. The top 4 in the East are better than the top 4 in the West.
East: Boston, Toronto, Indy, Philly
West: GSW, Houston, OKC, Utah.
GSW tops for sure. After that…?.
Ahhh… Interesting.
At first I thought, “You’re crazy!”
But I don’t know man, you might be onto something.
watched the replay —-I was a “dekker hopeful ” when he was signed / and still optimistic once camp opened —but yeah watching his play —I would choose “BONZI ” OVER DEKKER— ( arch that was a great video honoring BONZI )——still think ANTE DESERVES MORE MINUTES —( YES THEIR IS SOME DEFENSIVE MINUSES )—-but he is so much more of an offensive threat than T.T. WILL / DREAMED of being —plus he is only 21 yrs old —a lot of potential there —I AM WITH EVIL —I SEE PACERS AS THE TEAM COMING OUT OF THE EAST ( AND… Read more »
I’m slightly concerned that Sexton hasn’t been able to find shots around the rim. However I do like how under control he was this game, not forcing anything.
He has not learned how to drive into a defender and then bounce off to create space for the finish & prevent the shot block. It is all straight line speed. If he gets the guile down, look out.
He certainly is NOT a Clarkson/Crawford type chucker.
I was thinking the same thing. He needs to learn to create space and how to change speeds
Rookie watch. Ayton looks like the number one pick. He is going to be a beast on both sides of the ball. He probably already is. Averaged 3 blocks per game in his first three preseason games in limited minutes. Wouldn’t be surprised to see him average 20 ppg, 12 boards, 2.5 bpg, on 58-60 percent shooting and 78-80% shooting this year. I expect him to develop a three point shot sometime in the offseason. I think his ceiling is a more athletic, bigger, stronger, faster, and more defensive minded KAT or a skilled Dwight Howard who has a jumpshot… Read more »
So a better Larry Bird?
Ha. Don’t think he will ever be a passer or three point shooter of that caliber. He has had some nice kickouts. I think he will command doubles sooner rather than later. His j extends to about 18 feet now and he is well over 50 percent in preseason on js. He shot some threes in college. He is nowhere near the three shooter Towns or Davis is at this point obviously and I don’t think he has attempted one yet. Last game he had some nice postups against Durant, which he scored a number of times. I think he… Read more »
Is Oladipo in the top 5 players in the league if he has a slightly better season this year? He is a monster on the basketball court…wade in his prime
Not quite going that far. Wade’s peak was so high up there. He was for a few years probably the second best player in the league. He would have to have a monster year as in being in the running for DPOY, or leading scorer in the league/MVP to surpass one of LBJ, Durant, Davis, Curry, or Harden. Those guys are sort of on another level.
Oladipo already a much better three ball shooter than Wade ever was. However, Wade was an all time great defensive 2 and better around the basket. Oladipo makes the finals and he’s in top 5 discussion. I’d take him over Harden, but I think Harden is a loser.
Yeah Dipo is a better shooter from three, but Wade was so incredible as a finisher and as a defender. He also wasn’t bad from midrange in his prime. That year he won MVP he averaged like 1.3 blocks and 2.2 steals. That is absurd for anyone in the 2000s, let alone a guard. I mean he is a 49% shooter from the field for his CAREER. That is rarefied air for a high scoring guard. In his prime he was regularly shooting 50% plus. That is wild. He also didn’t need to rely on three point shooting to be… Read more »
He was easy to scheme for because he was 70% of their offense where Harden had a hof pg next to him.
If the Pacers had had a second threat, say a PG13 (irony) last year, the Cavs would had lost in 5-6 games.
They’ll be deadly with Evans in crunch time for that reason alone
Yep. Another 20 pt scorer/creator with good size is a huge plus. Takes a bit of the load off of Dipo and can pull them through if Dipo is off.
That’s fair. But I don’t think he handled doubles that well.
Harden is also a top five passer in the league now too though. Has been for some time. If you double him, he kills you. Lowe had a good piece on how great a passer Harden has become a month or so ago.
FWIW, my top 5 would be: Bron, Durant, Kawhi (if healthy), Curry, & CP3.
Next 5: Russ, Harden, Davis, Greek Freak +1.
That #10 is up for grabs: Kyrie, Embiid, PG13, Butler, Dipo, Green, and a few others in the running.
Forgot about Giannis. Kawhi would probably be in the running over top five. I am waiting to see how he comes back though. My feelings on Russ vacillate. Sometimes he hurts that team as much as he helps when he gets into midrange chucker mode. He also could be the best defensive pg in the league if he focused in on that end more.
In 2017 the cavs were defending champions and the Indians were one win away from winning the World Series. Now, Browns may be our best hope for a future title. Life comes at you fast.
2016 for Indians.
The Tribe need to rebuild the bullpen this offseason. And start playing some of their younger players over the Kipnis’s and EE’s. Hopefully they have some talent left in A – AAA.
I am so over kipnis.
Working out in the garage, didn’t catch the game. I see they lost but how did the young guys do?
Eh. Sexton looked solid. Holland had his best game of preseason. Colson looked good, as did Ike Taylor. Dekker was awful.
Sucks about Dekker but he doesn’t impress me at all. Thanks
In honor of Colson: https://youtu.be/wBruxedXUes
Who dat gonna beat dem saints!?
My all time favorite nfl-er. A little misty here.
Ok… time to go watch Drew Brees make NFL history…
Takeaways: indy’s good. Hill is trade bait. Korver is Korver. Dekker suuuucks.
Also… I don’t like Mondays…
Yeah to all four. I think Hill is just not that good now.
Korver can still drain em…
Oof. That Colson shot was short by like 2 feet.

Colson’s got a nice J.
Eh, maybe more like mildy serviceable.
Give him time. National player of the year candidate before he got hurt last year.
He pissed me off last game with an effort play. But yeah, he has shown some good stuff other than that. He will struggle against length I think. But I sort of think he is better than TT right now. Too bad TT is going to play over Zizic and Colson if he makes the team. Uggh.
Zizic has a nice j. Dude is so skilled offensively.
Pacers gonna kill teams from three this year…
Leaf looks good. Man. This indy squad is deep.
The Charge should have a good season…
Great pass, great finish!
Holland looking good. Must’ve heard us talking about him.
Ike.
Indiana playing like it counts. Good to see our bench not completely folding.
Holland on fire this game
Fighting for his spot…
Pick & roll D is still awful.
