Live Thread: Cavs @ Nets (#NoSleep)
2018-12-03The last time the Cavaliers faced the Brooklyn Nets, Tyronn Lue was still the coach… JR Smith and Kyle Korver were still on the team, and Kevin Love was still playing. In fact, that night in late October was the last time Love was seen in anything other than a walking boot. Flash forward six weeks, and the radical changes to this Cavs team are enough to keep anyone associated with them up nights worrying.
However, after another weekend back-to-back against talented contenders (the Cavs fared much less well against Boston and Toronto after sweeping Philly and Houston), Coach Larry Drew can instead lose sleep scheming how to defeat a more beatable opponent in the Nets. Brooklyn lost top scorer Caris LeVert to a scary looking (but ultimately not horrific) injury three weeks ago, and have been in a 2-9 slide ever since. They’ve lost their last six overall, and also dropped their last six games at home.
The Cavs are on a four game slide of their own, and looking to play a game where they’re not down by 20+ or wind up losing by double digits. They are averaging 92 points on 39.7 percent shooting during the losing streak, and have been held under 100 points 10 times this year. Hopefully, getting a healthy George Hill back in the swing of things, as well as contributions from new addition Alec Burks will begin to reverse that trend.
Besides LeVert, the Nets could also be without ex-Cav avenger, Smokin’ Joe Harris (left abductor injury). The Cavs will still be missing David Nwaba (knee), Sam Dekker (ankle) and possibly Ante Zizic (knee). New two-way recruit, Jalen Jones, is with the team in Brooklyn in case they need a body.
Prediction: I get no sleep until (after) Brooklyn, as I try to stay awake to hopefully recap a squeaker of a Cavs victory… 102-98.
Catch all the action as the Cavs cold kick it live from the Barclays Center starting at 7:30pm EST on FSO. And, as always chime in here with your rhymes… keep your foot on the pedal with never ever false metal… and keep your takes runnin’ hotter than a boiling kettle!
GO CAVS!

Okay… I love Hawks fans now…

EG, you called it almost perfectly…nice!
Gettin my mojo back!
3 up and 4 down in our last 7.
We are better than PHX & ATL right now. With Love back I think we pass NY, Brooklyn, and maybe Chicago.
Still, we shot 15 3s and the Nets took 40. Hard to win the math.
Suns about to get some space between them and everyone else for the worst record. Booker went out with a nagging hamstring injury. No timetable for return.
Wow… Nets shot 40 threes… what happened to this team?
And Russell and Dinwiddie took 23 of them!
Cavs finally shoot over 40% for a game… first time in awhile…
Nets are not nearly as good on D as OKC, Toronto, and Boston. Those are elite Ds. Our O is not threatening. I mean, TT is our best player. Let that sink in.
Yeah… the TT uptick could be a good thing once Love returns though….
Sexton had the best plus/minus of any starter at -2. No TOs.
Still, tops:
TT: 19/14/2 + 2 blocks. -5.
JC: 20/11/4 on 9-22. +10.
Burks: 13/7/1 on 5-13. +11 and game winning dunk.
Nance: 9/8/1/1/1 on 3-5 and +4 with a triple.
Sexton was: 15/1/2 on 7-16. -2. 1/1 3s.

TT should’ve gotten more looks tbh.
Even the strongest proponents of tanking have to concede that these guys needs to win from time to time (if nothing else to keep the sanity). Way to go Cavs. TT and Nance owned Allen and company.
Nice D from TT on the final shot.

Burks is fun to watch. TT is abusing people. Hill needs to get his mental game together. What’s the point of playing a veteran gaurd if they make multiple mistakes at crunch time?
Yeah. He’ll be better next game.
It is just his second game back after being out for a while…
I agree. Hopefully, he gets better. Didn’t see much hustle. Alot of “Let somebody else do it” body language.
If only they could combine Hood’s shot with Burks’ strength and aggressiveness in one player… I bet Utah fans thought the same…
Whew!
That was an odd game.
We hang on. Deserved win.

.
Pretty damn close on the prediction Evil!
My prediction game is BACK!
Youre undefeated
I’m bad for the Zion crowd…
As long as you recap the lottery, we’re good.
LOL
Goodnight brooklyn!
WINE AND GOLD WINNER!
No 3s!
Good call coach Drew! Shows what I know.
I’m convinced Larry is coaching to los… Burks with the dunk!
Run something for TT.
And Drew pulls him.
really? i hit the can for a short pit stop and they give up a 10 pt lead?
i do like burks.. i hope they don’t trade him (re amico)
Amico knows nothing…
i need something to read when i am evacuating..
Good point…
Burks >>>>>> Hood. Plays with some force & aggression on both ends. Better off the dribble.
So… Drew puts Cedi in for offense?
That is what I thought. It DID work.
Bad teams find ways to lose. I would blame putting Sexton back in around the 5 minute mark when that lineup was cruising
Why the f was Rodney hood in? Hes been worthless this game.
Screw this Kurucs guy…
Hill chokes.
duh.. isn’t that what he does?
Kurucs continues to foul…
What a dumb freaking turnover
Take care of the ball guys… jeez
LOL… he blew the layup!
Bad coaching/subs here.
Jared Allen looks like central casting for Welcome Back Kotter…
Why isnt cedi playing here for D?
Or LNJ. Drew choked that possession. We got the stop but then Hill barfed the ball up. And Clarkson settled on Allen
TT on the SPOT!
Burks with the Kobe assist to TT!
Why hell isn’t nance playing?
He or Cedi should come on D right now.
What is Clarkson doing? Go on Allen!
Too many mistakes by the Cavs… not enough defending the perimeter…
You know hes gonna shoot that. Go over the damned screen!
Jordan Clarkson! The philipino Kobe of the Plains.
JC with a big bucket.
Needed bucket from JC…
Kurucs commits a foul on every possession… finally gets called…
Drew goes even smaller. That wasxa junk Burks shot.
That CAN’T have been the play out of the TO…
This is annoying…
Jesus. Get Collin out of the game.
He did and then Clarkson did that.
Hard to fix stupid.
hopefully they can get out of the cellar this evening.. they should be able to win against brooklyn (especially with levert out)
Too small on the glass. Put LNJ back in.
Good to. That Kurucs impresses me.
19/20 from the FT line.
Close,out, Collin!
Good TT D!
Thompson put you on lockdown,Spencer!
Sexton has to learn to use the glass on those flips. He ain’t Tony Parker.
He aint Tony Schaloob
I’ve never seen a scoring guard with fewer moves than Collin Sexton. He’s kind of terrible at one on one.
Yep. It is either a pull-up or straight to the rim. Not much hesitation or pivot/step-through.
Ugh – you’re so right. What was Parker like his first few years in the league? Wondering if time / practice will translate to craftiness around the basket. Hopefully Collin trends more towards Parker and less towards Speedy claxton
Watching Sexton and TT try and fail to run a pick and roll is comedy/tragedy…
Rodney!
Good sub to get JC.
Hood makes a shot!
Slo-mo foul call…
Finally Hood follows through…

Burks is strong
