Live Thread: Cavs vs Thunder (#25BobbleHeadNight!)
2020-01-04Well, the greatest regular season point guard of our generation comes to town tonight, on the same night that the Cavs honor the greatest point guard in their history, MP25. After wandering the desert for the last two seasons in Houston, CP3 is ticking back upward with 17/7/5 splits while posting a 60 TS%, and leading the NBA in “clutch scoring.” The Tom Thibideau of players is certainly killing it, the Thunder had the best record in the Association in December, and Billy Donovan is the reigning coach of the month in the West. Also, Christ Paul bought his team custom suits for Christmas.
Meanwhile, the player the Cavs considered drafting in 2018 but didn’t, Shai Gilgeous-Alexander, is putting up 20/5/3 with a 55 TS%, and is also in the top ten in clutch scoring. Sexton, conversely is notching 18/3/2 with a 53 TS%. The Thunder are a surprising 19-15 and have a history of blowing up the Cavs in winter match-ups.
On the inactive front, OKC is only missing perma-injured Andrew Roberson. For the Cavs, Get ready for a thin bench. KPJ is out with an excused absence for “personal reasons” tonight, while Larry Nance Jr. will be missing one two weeks resting his sore knee. Guess the Cavs had threatened to win too many games lately. To fill in, Dean Wade and newly signed from his two-way contract, Tyler Cook, have been called up for this one.
Don’t look at this as a promotion for Cook, though it may mean a bit more money (I honestly have no idea). It probably means that he’ll be dumped before his contract becomes guaranteed on January 10th, and then possibly signed to a 10-day or two after that. The Cavs probably want to consider signing a different guy to another two way deal. Tonight might be Cook’s one big chance to make an impression, but after averaging 13/6/1 in the G-League in just 20 minutes a night, I wouldn’t count on it.
I fully expect the Cavs to get dissected by Chris Paul in this one, unless someone goes yolo. Maybe Dante Exum has a chance. Maybe Delly breaks out from three or gets under CP3’s skin. Maybe Kevin Love realizes the only way to improve his trade value is to starting giving a *bleep* against the player other teams seem much more interested in, Dino Gallinari (whose contract ends this year instead of 2022). Here’s hoping.
Looks like KPJ injury is knee sprain, will be re-evaluated in 2 weeks. Good news to me.
Best news possible.
Yeah, we got lucky here. Thank goodness. KPJ was one of the few bright spots this season. Glad he’s not going to have his career stunted with this injury.
A non-contact knee injury. This cannot be good. The young player that I feel has the most potential…sigh.
AND YES HOPE THAT INJURY IS NOT SERIOUS FOR KPJ——MY FAVORITE OF THE ‘NEWBIES ” AS WELL
SAID WHEN THEY MADE THE TRADE —CAVS MIGHT CATCH ” LIGHTNING IN THE BOTTLE ” WITH EXXUM——KNOW IT IS ONLY 1 GAME BUT WOW ————YOU THINK ANTE’S 15 / 12 MIGHT EARN HIM SOME PLAYING TIME AND YES HE ALSO WAS PART OF THAT KYRIE TRADE
Watched the first half, but took a break for Sunday family dinner. Any word on KPJ? Breaks my heart that he hurt himself, my definite favorite amongst the kids and really showing promise.
Beilein just said the doctors were examining him, and they hope to know more tomorrow, so no word, really…
I just realized that Koby traded Kyrie Irving to two I. Thomases. Sexton looks hell bent on becoming the next I.T. That trade looks worse every single day.
Glad I stuck around to see the run. Hoping for the best for KPJ.
Game….
Wiggins has really stunk tonight…a rare stinker when playing the Cavs…
Still very glad he ain’t a Cav.
It should not be missed how pinpoint Zizic’s passes from the inside have been.
The Exum coming-out game…
They’ll play this game at Exum’s HoF induction…yeesh…
Ha haaa! Hope they keep feeding the hot hand.
These are the classic drive moves Exum showed in his rookie year – he’s not lost any speed. Great to see!
Moving the ball well on offence, and taking the right shot!!! Where did this discipline come from??
This comeback is insane…
JUST WATCHED THE PORTER FALL / INJURY —–OUCH / DAMMIT !!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!……………………POSITIVES ARE THE PLAY OF ANTE / DANTE
Probably fool’s gold, but Cavs a sneaky chance to take this game…
Zizic and Exum have both been pretty good this game…
Exum raining threes!!!!!
He’s actually looked pretty good tonight. I know it’s mostly been a laugher, but still…
The kind of game where he could find some form and confidence.
Knight and-1 – way to stick with it!
Feel like we are watching training drills from both teams
That looked pretty ugly for KPJ….hope it’s not bad…
Missed it Mike, what happened?
He was just dribbling top of key and took an awkward step and and awkward fall, immediately grabbed his knee, looked like. Nothing violent happened, but he grabbed it even as he was falling. He had two guys take him down the ramp and he wasn’t putting any weight on that leg…
Sounds bad…
5 ASSISTS/ 7 T.O.’S NOT A GOOD RECIPE FOR WINNING——-THE LINE UP WE SEE TONIGHT MIGHT BE A FREQUENT SIGHT THE REST OF THE SEASON ……………….” MORE BEER PLEASE “

So far, Wolves playing really dumb ball. They could have killed this contest already.
