Live Thread: Jazz @ Cavs
2021-12-05Good afternoon CtB!
Today the Utah Jazz trek across the country to the shores of Lake Erie to take on the Cavs in a Sunday matinee. The Jazz appear to be a championship contender again, however more than a few fans feel as though they are more of a pretender than contender. For the Cavs, this is a major opportunity to get a win against one of the West’s best and build confidence heading into some major upcoming matchups against the Chicago Bulls and Milwaukee Bucks.
The Cavs will be without Dean Wade again, with Cedi Osman and Dylan Windler questionable according to Evan Dammarell.
Cedi Osman and Dylan Windler are questionable for the Cleveland Cavaliers against the Utah Jazz.
Dean Wade is out.

From a strategic standpoint, it will be interesting to see how the Cavs attack the Jazz on both ends of the court. The key to neutralizing Defensive Player of the Year Rudy Gobert has been to go smaller and force him to guard the perimeter. But the Cavs have rarely used any small ball lineups. On defense, the task for the Cavs will be to make it tough on Donovan Mitchell offensively. Mitchell appears to have taken his game to another level, and is flirting with joining the elite superstars of the NBA.
One last thing, welcome back Jordan “Captain Bandaid” Clarkson!
Tip off is scheduled for 3:30PM ET and will be broadcasted on Bally Sports Ohio/Great Lakes, GO CAVS!
Recap is up! I salted in a few tidbits from this very fine live thread, yee haw

yup, JB likes to micromanage and that lineup was cooking.
Cedi was awesome, +16.5 in 20 minutes… should’ve played more if he could’ve handled it.
Ice was good too, +7.8 in 26 minutes couldn’t shoot but passing and defense were good enough.
Generally, the offense was amazing (116 ortg) and the defense was garbage (116 drtg)
going thru the numbers:
starting lineup played 17 minutes tonight, by far the most used lineup, and was a -13.7 net rating.
second most used lineup was Rubio for Okoro, 7 minutes, +30.8
lineup that led the comeback? Love, Rubio, Cedi, Okoro, Markkanen +98.6 in 4 minutes.
Which is nuts cuz Love was awful. I think it was just about their bench and Gobert sitting. But i missed a lot of that part.
Except that Gobert was in when the Cavs made their run.
Judging by the play by play, Love’s passing and shooting gravity was able to draw out Gobert from the paint.
Small ball nearly won it for them (small enough anyway) as mentioned in the preview
yup, Utah forces you to play a certain way to counteract what Gobert does protecting the paint.
just watched highlights in YT…another entertaining game from the squad. Jazz are really good and Cavs still were super close and could have won it. Still going to be growing pains but this team is legit. GO CAVS!
Honestly surprised cedi wasn’t out there at the end. Would’ve put him in for Allen so they could play five out. Or rubio just for the shooting. Fantastic game. No shame in that loss.
Impressed by the comeback. Cavs have been in so many close games against really good teams only to fall short at the end. They need to start pulling some of these out, but they are young and this is something they need to learn. They never seem to get blown out now and I love the fight in this team.
fantastic fight in the fourth, just have to be ready from the jump, Utah was ready to fight from the tip.
Overall a good performance, but another instance of failing to close the deal vs really good teams.
Winning the 1 point games is the final step in becoming a really good team. The Cavs haven’t done it yet, but they are getting some practice at it.
Feel that hurt. Let it burn in your bellies. Close don’t mean shit when you’re a real baller, the hell with moral victories. Keep on Cavs, keep on. To the next battle.
dammit… DG slipped on the jump stop, killed the play, still had a chance for the tip
Oh my…had a couple of chances at the tip..great effort in the 4th…
DG better enter the HoF in a Cavs jersey…
Come on Cavs!
