Live Thread: Cavs @ Hawks

The Cavs have ventured to the Georgia Piedmont to take on the Atlanta Hawks in a classic Eastern Conference clash. The Cavs have all of a sudden found themselves with a tiny shot at the third seed with a recent skid by the Philadelphia 76ers, while the Hawks are jockeying for play-in position. Unfortunately the Cavs will be dealing with a slew of injuries pressing both Lamar Stevens and Caris LeVert into starting duties.
Who are the Hawks statistically? On offense, they play at a fast pace and take care of the ball well mainly because they don’t care much for ball movement. On defense, they largely stink and can be exploited by crashing the glass on offense. The Cavs can find exploits such as finding transition opportunities because Atlanta doesn’t shoot the ball well, and crashing the glass on misses to exploit their lack of rebounding.

My take on the Knicks game is to experiment and try different things with an idea of finding things that work, but treat it as “just another game” and not worry about the result too much. Not sure Green is going to crack the rotation unless he gets in better shape and starts moving better. Basically Caris and Okoro are playing too well and there aren’t minutes for him. He was a low risk add for locker room presence. He played 3 games this year before they got him so anything they get from him on the court is a bonus.

Bad officiating is pretty much the story of every NBA game…even more so if you actually watch the games. The refs/NBA try to keep the game close until the end, and then their bad calls become even more egregious because they literally decide the game. It’s no wonder NBA ratings have tanked so badly. No serious basketball fan can consistently enjoy this stuff.
I am so effing sick of Atlanta, with Trae’s BS, beating us consistently. I feel a change coming though.

I’ve been critical of JB this season, but he’s suitable to coach this squad to a first round win vs the Knicks.
I think we will lose in 5 games due to injuries and lineup problems. But I also think you are right he might be good eventually.
JB has been playing a playoff bench all season. As long as we are healthy we should be good.
We arent. An playing a playoff bench means he wasn’t planning for contingencies. He was padding the wins column. I dont necessarily blame him…but find me a coach that overplayed their top 6 and overperformed in the playoffs. Cuz I guarantee you will run into Nurse and Thibs and several others and not find a conference final contender that had a real shot

JB was brief but did mention that dumb overturned challenge and also noted the Hawks stepped out of bounds on a 3, which the refs missed. Time to replace these idiots with robots!

Yeah that was season ending stupidity. Could have gotten the three seed and found some luck to get to the second round. Now we will have to face the Knicks with an experienced playoff coach. We have almost no chance to advance. We are banged up and we have a genuinely almost worse than rookie coach.
The Knicks aren’t the Bucks. We should be slightly favored, but it’ll be a slog. It doesn’t mean the Cavs will win that series. But I like our chances.
Plus it’ll be the best series of the first round. Much watch TV.

I think the top 3 and Knicks are hard to beat:. So any first round opponent would have been a learning experience for Cavs..
Not feeling you there. Cavs playing 5-on-8 most of the night with a short bench. Only guy who could’ve played more was Rolo or Caris but these are quibbles. Personally. I’d have tried Caris at the four. Cedi was abysmal. Also, I’m not afraid of the Knicks.
No team in the east should be afraid of them except us. We are banged up AND coached by a one dimensional barely makes adjustments silly boy. I have a hard time believing he will deploy cedi, stevens, caris, rubio, AND the 3 other bench players he should deploy correctly

DG doesn’t get the foul fast enough. Too many missed FTs and Diakite and Cedi get steamrolled. Tough loss on the road, but nothing to panic about.
