Playoff Live Thread (Game 2): Cavs @ Celtics
2024-05-09Good evening, Cavs fans! Cleveland takes on Boston again tonight without Ty Jerome. He joins CPJ, Dean Wade, and Jarrett Allen on the injured list for Game 2. Boston is still missing Kristaps Porzingis, and the goal tonight will be for the Cavs to score 100 points in a road playoff playoff game (credit: Jackson Flickinger). This has never happened under JB Bickerstaff. Should be interesting. Go Cavs!
TOTALLY AGREE ARCH ——- WOULD BE NICE TO GET JA / WADE BACK AND FOR SAM TO MAKE A SHOT / GET GOING
Boston is definitely more of a finesse team. They’re not gonna junk it up like Orlando or NY.
the junking really hurts one of our hidden strengths, which is that every player is a plus passer for their position. I don’t think DG or Strus had one clean cut all Orlando series
DG WITH 7 REB’s IS IMPRESSIVE FOR HIM —— WAS REALLY HUSTLING AFTER THE BALL WHEN I WAS WATCHING—— GOOD TO SEE 👍💪🦾🏀
This was the first game all playoffs that Derrick White shot below 50% either from 3 or overall FG%. Hope it was a defensive adjustment moreso than just an off night.
Off night. Dude had wide-open threes…let’s call it regression to the mean.
he’s not shooting 50% for the whole playoffs. he’ll come back down a bit but he’s still really dangerous
Driving up for game 3. Feared it would be part of a sweep, oppty to applaud the fellas for an entertaining season. But even if BOS breaks serve to get back on serve, I’m confident it will be rocking and I will be voiceless Sun/Mon.
A playoff coming out party for young EM. DG continuing to show some speedy aggression. CL microwaving off the bench. Little to quibble about. Maybe another minute or two for TT and minutes less for minivan. But let’s not quibble. Smiles
Holy shit.
Did you win the trivia night?
Second.
So that just happened….
100 pt goal achieved! Victory follows!
Monster games from Mobley, Mitchell and all. Good times.
ANY CHANCE JA IS BACK FOR SATURDAY s GAME
I don’t think so but apparently Wade could return in the next couple games
If JA is having trouble lifting his arms, no, he won’t be back.
Would Wade be in playable condition even if he were cleared? I fear we are who we have right now. That means limiting Niang’s minutes by any means necessary, getting Sam Merrill unscared, and pumping Tristan and Marcus Morris full of 2016.
This!
you might have to sit Merrill — what worked tonight was downhill attacks on the closeouts and Merrill is not great there, not even as good as Strus or Niang.
The court side reporter mentioned at the beginning of the broadcast that he was still feeling pain and could not lift his arms up..
HAD TO LEAVE—- HOLY SHIT —— GUESS I NEED TO LEAVE MORE OFTEN 👍
For those who remember the last Cavs teams to advance past the 1st round without LeBron, this is highly reminiscent of the ‘92 ECF against the Bulls: Cavs lost Game 1 and the narrative afterward was how much easier it was for Chicago than their epic grind-it-out 2d round battle against the Knick’s. But then the Cavs blew Chicago out on their floor in Game 2.
Great observation. Let’s hope that game 3 isn’t a laugher for Boston like it was for Chicago 32 years ago.
I lived that series. Yes, perhaps. I may eat this, but I don’t see a #23 jersey in green this series.
Boston still the favorite, but as Brad Sellers likes to say – Boston haven’t won anything yet…there’s always something with them.
Evan Mobley tonight:
21 PTS
10 REB
5 AST
+35
The youngest Cav since LeBron with a 20/10/5 playoff game.
He was stellar!
he has fun stuff offensively — he’s a great passer and both pushes well and finishes well in transition / semi transition. he has a much better layup package but it is still very very mechanical, and he has the occasional 3. he’s not gonna score in bunches like Chet b/c no 3 ball volume yet but he’s a really useful secondary offensive playmaker.
i really liked what Orlando did with Wagner and think Ev could do a lot running a pick and roll there
yeah, EM is making steady progress with no end in sight.
Now let’s hear some post game analysis from Nomad and Buckaroo!
where is Leaky Looie?
JB first road playoff win being a 30 burger against the most dominant team is very very funny to me
Gotta give him credit. He came up with a plan to limit Boston 3s and it worked out. Congrats JB!
RJ even gave him his flowers for a great ATO play in the 4th quarter. That . . . has never happened before!
The sub of Okoro for Vert and keeping DM on the floor all fourth was smart.
It might not be genius–can they beat Boston unless DM plays all second half?
Leaking Louis is gonna cry on Brunson jersey……..!!!!
Well whadya know…cleveland showed some genuine killer instinct tonight. What a performance. Rocket Mortgage gonna be rumbling
The Cavs are the first team in the playoffs to hold the Boston Celtics under 100 points.
It’s also their first sub-100 pt game in a month.
Holy shit a positive point differential and a split.
Fuck Boston
(left when it was 30, my bad on PD, still +1 Bostink)
That was a hell of a win.
Spida identifying Mobley as the reason.
That’s Evan FUCKING Mobley to you.
Woot!! What a game! Donny!!!
What a relief to see this crew finally get a road win. Go Cavs!
Agree.. and won with a 118 pt game too.. +24 win in Boston
Donovan Mitchell and the Cavs led the Celtics 64-63 midway through the 3rd quarter.
Cleveland has since outscored Boston 54-26 to blow the game open and steal Game 2 on the road
Niang is hard to watch calmly even in garbage time
This will be the Cavs’s first playoff road victory since here in Boston in game 7 of the 2018 ECF. Nice.
Point Okoro!
Just realizing, JB finally sheds the “never won a playoff game on the road” talking point. Impressively!
I think this is a more meaningful win than the Heat’s Game 2 against Boston. Not like the Cavs set any franchise records tonight; they just played better at both ends.
Really was just a solid overall game.
We have 3 players with 20+ –
Mitchell: 29 pts, 7 rbs, 8 asts
Mobley: 21 pts, 10 tbs, 5 asts, 1 stls, 2 block
Caris: 21 pts, 6 rbs, 3 asts

This might be the best game of the season
I am fine with Niang as the cigar.
Absolutely appropriate
This is the most surprising cavs win i can think of. get merril in an shooting for some rhythm baby
RMFM would go wild.
Alright. Starters out please.
Cavs had a Boston “Three” Party !
Boston has missed 16 of their last 17 3’s
What’s left of the crowd seems utterly shocked at what they’re seeing!
Mazula emptying the bench 😂
Cavs are shooting 57.1%!!! wow on the road and are 13-25 from 3…
If we didn’t foul that much and sent Boston to the line (20-24), we would be up a bit more…
Like they say.. sometimes it’s a make or miss league.
Flagrant.
2 to make 1 plus the ball.
Awful quiet in the Garden.
CAVS IN 6 LETS FUCKING GOOOOOOO
👆👆👆
+24. Under 5 min.
Lullaby time.
Wow – Celts Nation headed to the parking lot at the 5-minute mark!
LET CARIS COOK
Levert slices thru Tatum, ripping Tatum’s heart out on the way.
Goodnight chowderheads !
Cavs 10-15 and Boston 1-15 from 3 this quarter.. that’s the game right there.
I see you Caris!
Fans headed to the exits
👏👏👏👏👏👏
A beautiful sight!
Staring 5 + Caris all in double figures.
STATEMENT WIN
Nice 20 point lead!
+20. 6:06 left.
C LEvert !
When Levert hits the 10-ft pull-up it’s definitely a rage TO moment! lol!
hahhaha yes
Attaway Max
What a pass by Donovan out of that trap!
Strus is coming alive!
Thank the gods
Garland ugh
Timeout turnover. Rad.
7:39 left. +17.
They have 85 points.
If we get over 110, this is gonna be hard to lose.
Just got caught up to live. When that happened in first half BOS closed in to tie it. Must let you guys get 30 min ahead of me now. Will check in later. Go Cavs!
4.5 min of clock time w EM on bench: +9 -> +12. Winning
Canadian Dynamite!!🧨
Mobley just go up!!! Let them foul.
Over 100! Strus3!
Over 100 baby!
Maximus Strusimus for three!
THERE’S MORE THAN 100 POINTS, PEOPLE
Strus is Loose!
Some Cavalier obituaries written a tad prematurely. These guys haven’t lost their belief in what they could accomplish. Loving it!!
Spidey sense tingling even more!
Up 16.
Wide awake in Dreamland.
Long way to go.
