Playoffs Live Thread: Cavs vs Celtics, Game 1
2015-04-19https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=FTo7ushzoDM
We’ve officially come full circle ladies and gentlemen. It was the Celtics of Boston beating the Cavs in game 6 of the 2010 playoffs that led to LeBron tearing off his Cavs jersey, his subsequent decision to create the collusion three and a drastic spike on whiskey consumption in the Hughey household  over the past four years. The franchises are the same, but nearly every face has changed. Not one Celtic from that game is still on their roster and the only current Cavs from that contest are LeBron James and Anderson Varejao (sigh). If you are lucky enough to attend todays game, and you still have a voice tomorrow, you didn’t deserve to go in the first place.  After 1,802 days, playoff basketball is back in Cleveland. Do you feel how I feel, when we go to the land of believe?

Just watched the group interview with the big 3 and loved it. Does anyone else feel like this is a little bit more of a KI with swagger? Seems like he’s taking this first playoff win well. Can’t stop smilin’
He appreciates it more. To have lost for the last 4 years and be lotto teams and now to this level is a dream come true.
Hopefully JR can bounce back after losing his cool. Note that he never got back in the game once he left with 4 fouls. Seems to me thats a message from the coach to keep it together. Cavs played a super physical game. Could have had more fouls called against them. They are the roughest, toughest team in the NBA right now. Celtics are perhaps better than we thought but not good enough to threaten. I still don’t see how that actually win a game, but maybe if they get LBJ in foul trouble and shoot like hell they can… Read more »
zeller and doubie brother look more than competent. of course their backcourt was lead by bradley and smart bruising their way in the lane on offense and defense. mozzie could have been given a few calls when he was hacked by guards
I still say the Celtics played just about as well as they could, while the Cavs played a decent game… and the difference was still 13 points. If anything, I’m less concerned about the Celtics now that the Cavs have the first playoff game nerves out of their system.
It is hard to say someone cannot threaten. Either a Celtics hot day, a Cavs cold day, or a Refs bad one sided game can lead to a Celtics win. Of course, the Cavs can also play a lot better than they did today.
I think the Cavs have a good chance to sweep, but it would not be a huge surprise if the Celtics win a game or two. If they win three, that will be a major upset.
Hawks only win by 7.
Really cool to see all three of the big three at the interview podium together…
Although a little awkward that press aren’t really asking KLove much…
And now it’s less awkward since the guys made a joke about it…
my wife has real housewives drama that makes her laugh. when will sports journalism reach peak drama?
Fun game to watch. Love was fantastic. Kyrie was unreal. LeBron really steadied everything and let other guys fill it up.
The first quarter was sloppy. It looked like we didn’t know it was a playoff game, which I really didn’t like. But once they woke up, we dominated.
The Nets are awful.
Not even bothering to watch the game…
Hawks are going to curbstomp the poor Nets…
As I say this the Nets cut it to 9.
Blatts daughters came in from Isreal to watch the game?
David Blatt interview on now…
Easiest playoffs ever. There’s not going to be any drama until the ECF.
I thought that when the CAVS destroyed the Hawks in the 08-09 playoffs those were easier wins than this game.
Or all those first rounds when they destroyed the Wizards…
@noodlecat celebrating victory
kyrie was awesome
lebron played solid
love woke up after 1st half
TT was monster on boards
JR was volatile and needs to step up
Mozgov played soft majority of the game
Cavs can only get better from here….i forecast a 20 pt blowout game 2…celtics played as well as they could for this game and still lost by double digits
I just predicted the same thing to a fan at the bar. I think the Cavs know what they are up against and will be much more efficient in game 2. For one, I don’t think we’ll see so many turnovers from LeBron.
JR got in foul trouble and didnt see much playing time in the 2nd half.
Post game interviews on NBATV
1 down, 15 to go.
I told my sons that. They wondered if they could keep a counter running next to our calendar.
Brad Stevens’ game plan kept the Celtics in it for the first half. He really deserves the votes he gets for COY…
LBJ seemed particularly sloppy with the ball in the second half…
Celtics will be interesting in the offseason. They can get a couple forwards, they’ll be tough. And if Boogie gets moved, I’d expect them to be a top destination.
They just seem to have redundancies at various positions, and Thomas is the only one who can fill it up, and he’s only 5’9
They will be players for love if he opts out. Doubt he would sign with them but they would pitch him I’m sure. Cousins though would be a nightmare with smart.
Their pitch would include Bill Simmons dedicating yet another Podcast channel to Kevin…
haha! Nice call, EG. B.S. and Jalen, pullin’ hard to break up the big three.
I don’t even think he’s going to opt out.
Cavs didn’t play very well offensively at times and still scored 113
They also only had 19 minutes of JR tonight because of foul trouble… Nice luxury to have Iman who can play big minutes…
This was a game where the Celtics out-hustled the Cavs early and looked like they could pull off the upset, but the talent deficit came out eventually.
Heckuva playoff debut for Kyrie… and after a slow start, heckuva debut for KLove as well…
I’ll take 19 pts and 12 rebs every single game. Had a few good plays on the defensive end too.
Nice jesture to sub those guys out at the end.
CAVS WIN!
Thats why you don’t play moz in fourth
I think this is the best the Celtics can play… Conversely, I think the Cavs had just an okay game and still are going to win by double digits…
Is that back to back air balls for Avery Bradley?
GET THAT WEAK STUFF OUTTA HERE, WOMAN!!!! MOZ-BLOCK!!!
Kyrie missed both… I guess he’s human after all ;)
@kpelton: Per @bball_ref, Kyrie Irving joins Anthony Davis among 11 players to score 30+ in playoff debuts the last 2 decades: http://t.co/xVWi9C5olq
I don’t know what Blatt said at halftime, but it worked.
It kinda started in the second quarter though. Cavs have outscored them by 17 since then…
James to Love for a big 3 late in the 4th.
Than is too easy Lebron to Love
KLOVE FOR THREEEEEEE!!!
Great timing on that drive by LBJ
Not sure how Moz missed on that break…
Pretty sure he got hit in the balls by Isaiah Thomas’ head.
Is it just me… or does it seem like LBJ is mostly passive this game… unlike how he usually plays in game one of the playoffs?
He came out playing up on his man like JR does and picked up some quick fouls. Maybe backed off after that.
True… also no JR in the second half with the foul trouble…
Shump’s shot looks so good. Does he just need more reps? 300 jumpers a day this summer, young man!
Love threw LeBron open there, to borrow a football phrase.
How wasn’t that a trip? He stuck his foot out and Kyrie fell over it.
That was like a Tony Parker finish! Kyrie is one of those guys who could pull off any other PG’s moves I think…
Van Gundy: “Guys like Love who are challenged to elevate…”
Love with another good position play. Just outside the charge circle again.
Two charges in one game for love. Doing the hard work
Love with ANOTHER charge taken!
Cavs have so much to clean up. But, dang Kyrie and TT doing work today
Really seems like TT has more than 5 boards…
Without the hair… Iman is a head taller than Isaiah… with the hair, he’s two heads taller…
Fletch lives!
TT trimmed his beard way too high up on his jaw. Looks like one of those old-time army hat chinstraps that go under the lips instead of the chin.
Hack a TT seems a little overzealous… Dude does make 64%
I was thinking the same thing.
More good switching against the Celtics’ off-ball motion.
Just when the C’s get back to 12… Kyrie pulls a rabbit out of his hat… Love this kid!
Chalmers! I mean chalupas!!! (stupid autocorrect)
LOL… That’s one of the best autocorrects ever!
Would soon have cheered and 1.
Dion. Now auto correct gives dion soon.
KYRIE!!!
I thought LeBron’s shot was going over the backboard when he released it.
