Preview and Live Thread: Cavs at Bulls (Game 4)
2015-05-10News is that Pau Gasol will not play today after injuring his left hamstring in Game 3. They are calling it a “strain” which means he could be back in a game or two. The Bulls finally went to their bench in game 3 and Nikola Mirotic showed how dangerous he can be. He scored 12 points and grabbed eight boards in just 22 minutes. He was a game high +19. Obviously, losing Gasol hurts the Bulls, but the “small-ball” lineup of the Bulls is dangerous if only because it features a lot of streaky outside shooting in a series that has been mostly a half-court grindfest. I’m not sure I agree with the sentiments in these tweets that the Bulls will be “better” but they will present a different look that the Cavs need to be prepared for.

Jacob Rosen saved me some time:
Regular season and playoffs:
Cavs w/ Gasol on court: +27 in 221 mins (+5.86 per 48)
Cavs w/ Gasol on bench: -12 in 120 mins (-4.80 per 48)— Jacob L. Rosen (@JacobLRosen) May 10, 2015
The Cavs once again stand at the precipice of a chasm. It’s hard to see them beating the Bulls in three straight games, making this game somewhat of a “must-win”. However, if they split on the road they will have regained home court advantage and will be sitting pretty.
The key to the rest of the series is Kyrie Irving’s health and LeBron James’ offensive execution in the half-court. Both of these were severely lacking in game 3 and cost the Cavs the game (the Cavs bench played very well). Kyrie’s game has a chaos factor that can get buckets when nothing else is working, much like he did at times in game 1. Without that, the Cavs offense is predictable and relies on a lot of high screen and rolls with LeBron. Jimmy Butler is showing an increased acumen in defending these screens. He’s anticipating them and rarely getting picked. The Cavs “answer” to this was to have LeBron go mano-y-mano in the post. Unfortunately, LeBron’s been losing the handle as he tries to muscle his way into the low post.
Keep an eye out for Timofey Mozgov’s minutes in this game. The Cavs don’t seem to trust him out there. He’s fumbled away enough passes and had his shot blocked at the rim enough to understand why the Cavs are quick to pull the plug. Still, he offers rim protection. The Bulls swung the momentum in their favor in the 3rd quarter of game 3 with a series of breezy dribble-drives to the hoop.
Now Mozgov played the first half of this quarter so he was partly responsible for the carnage, but he will fare better in the long run at keeping the Bulls from turning the game into a layup line for Butler and Rose. Keyphrase: “long run”. Will Blatt stick with him after a few momentum changing turnovers? Or will he go with James Jones and TT.
According to @ESPNStatsInfo, the Cavs are a +25 this series in the 49 mins Thompson & Mozgov shared the court. Could exploit more w/ no Pau

These teams know each other and there is some chess to be played: will Blatt try to actually “go big” to exploit the loss of Gasol (and hope the Bulls play the severely struggling Joakim Noah) or will they call in an airstrike and run James Jones for heavy stretches at the 4?
Still, this series is being defined by the play of Rose, Butler, James, and Irving. Going into the series, you’d have given the edge to the Cavs. If Kyrie’s injuries hamper him as much as they did in game 3, it’s going to take a vintage LeBron performance to advance.
How is that a Tech??
unbelievable that we are up 7. like cockroaches, we just dont die
MOZGOV!!!!! GO CAVS!!!!
Screw all the pessimism, LETS GO CAVS!!
I hear you. This will crush the Bulls
“Mozgov with a rare show of emotion.” What? Have they seen him play before? Most emotional guy on the team.
So much so that it often hurts his game. Very, very emotional player.

Jo Noah can probably give you one… he’s been handing them out on defense all game…
And offense… screens on screens.
sure, let me just go put on my thorn sweater
A three pointer!!!! keep shooting JR! If he can get hot the city of Cleveland will crown him a prince!
Delly by far the Cavs best offensive initiator right now. He should play the rest of the game.
Who ever thought, in a million years, that we would be saying this at the beginning of the season…
He turns it over right after I post this.
Definitely need JR to keep heating up! Will open lane for LBJ too…
We are tied up again. When we win this these announcers are going to have to eat some…… Come let’s go cavs
tied up again gotta start getting consecutive stops and making shots….lets GO CAVS!!
Let’s hope that JR can get hot some way.
If we survive this game I’ll be so happy
JR SWISH!!!!
Jr swish!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
Noah keeping the Cavs in this one…
Does Noah EVER set a legal screen?
And he’s only been called for one foul in the game.
Great defense come on cavs
Dang Noah moving again and nobody notices
Moz needs some of this…
I like this lineup.
Moz fumbles again… luckily Pebbles bailed him out with a foul…
JR with a couple great possessions.
Mosgov ga finish that for the and 1 man damn
Come on cavs lets do this w defense good stands so far
Why does Moz never look to shoot?
Tough 2 by JR. Second time in a row he’s passed up an open 3.
Huge bucket from Jr
Someone should always be open with LBJ getting doubled…
Now JR is afraid to shoot…
We shot 9 3 pointers and allot of jumpshots, too much especially when nothing was going in, we need to drive to the rim and get them in foul trouble
If we end up losing this season I think I am going to stay off the basketball news and turn off my alerts until draft day.
Series*********
Well… most important 12 minutes of the season coming right up…
Cavs lucky to be down seven. Still a winnable game if they run the gd offense.
Yep I fell like odds are somebody will get hot. Keep, playing hard defense and we can
Hard to win in the playoffs when you throw up a 12 point quarter…
If Cavs don’t find another gear, they are…
Is this our lowest quarter of the whole season? Extremely hard to watch.
down 7 but this is a big 7 points…need to drive to hoop and start getting fouls….shooting 3s won’t work
Oh good… last shot time…
Well… I guess I was wrong… JR is not the answer…
no one can hit a shot , Chicago is on a 22-8 run since Cavs was up 49-41 with a minute and a half left in the second. Thats 8 points in 12 minutes, wow
Taj Gibson just trucked his way into TTs junk.
Absolutely nothing going in for the Cavs right now. Hard to watch…
Terrible foul on TT
