Live Thread: Cavs @ Pelicans
2015-12-04The Cavs will look to bend a few beaks tonight as they prepare to take on the Pelicans in the first game of a quick back-to-back weekend road trip at Smoothie King Center (yeah, that’s right… Smoothie King… drink it in). New Orleans hasn’t quite lived up to their lofty expectations, after surprisingly winging their way into the playoffs last season. They come into this one with just a 4-15 record, having lost their last four in a row (sound familiar? *cough* *cough* Wizards…), despite still getting a high level of play from their rising superstar, Anthony Davis (23.5 ppg, 10.7 rpg). Meanwhile, the Cavs are reportedly making a change to their starting lineup to help bolster their defensive efforts from the outset, inserting Matthew Dellavedova for Mo Williams.
After giving up early leads to lesser teams lately, David Blatt is apparently looking to staunch the bleeding of opposing guard penetration, at least until his starting backcourt can return. On that front, the Cavs got some encouraging news with regards to their missing star point guard, as Kyrie Irving progressed to a full court, full-contact five-on-five practice yesterday. According to ESPN, Irving’s presence, along with Iman Shumpert’s, resulted in the Cavs’ “best practice, by far” of the season.
In the best quote of the article, Irving said that he and Shumpert hope to emulate professional wrestlers when they get back in the lineup:
“We understand our presence on the team and what we bring to the team,” Irving said. “When we get back we call ourselves the Hardy Brothers. We’re coming full attack like the Hardy Brothers back in WWF.”
Probable starting lineup for tonight for the Cavs: Matthew Dellavedova, J.R. Smith, LeBron James, Kevin Love and Tristan Thompson. And for the Pels: Eric Gordon, Tyreke Evans, Alonzo Gee, Anthony Davis and Omer Asik.
One guy who won’t be playing, but made his presence known anyway during warmups, is former Cav (and still Angry Smurf) Kendrick Perkins, who reportedly shouted something at Delly…
Kendrick Perkins visited #Cavs on court. He yelled at Matthew Dellavedova, "You lucky I ain't playing. I'd hit you with a hard-ass screen."

Logic should dictate that the Cavs will be able to handle The Brow and his flock fairly easily, but as we know, nothing seems all that easy for the Cavs these days. New Orleans will likely give the wine & gold all they can handle on their home court, especially with the return of a healthy Tyreke Evans. Hopefully, Delly can help keep him in check.
Prediction: Cavs 114-110.
GO CAVS!
This is no fun at all. Kyrie needs to get his ass back out there. He needs to stop pussyfooting around.
Lebron playing 45 minutes tonght. That can’t keep happening.
It doesn’t. Keep happening. Its happened a few times
He has been playing too many minutes lately. And they have been struggling. It’s happening too much.
Argh. This game.
Game over…
Game over and if the Cavs lose tomorrow against the Heat and think that we will get KI back sooner then expected.
Just seems like it’s been a death struggle to evn get a good shot the last few games.
LeBron used up all of his fuel in the fourth… now it’s the Brow’s turn I guess…
Love needs to be more assertive. Stop pussyfooting around!
Kevin passing up the open look for a contested one…
Terrible by Lebron not using the screen. Love wanted to go to the post
Looks like another losing streak. Miami tomorrow too… Yikes.
Love passed up the open look twice to take the harder shot.
He wanted to get to the post. But Lebron wanted an ISO so we ended up with a mess
Sorry I repeated your post below ;)
I guess falling down with the ball is no longer considered a travel… smh…
Would be nice to see JR catch a break from the refs one of these years.
Never gonna happen…
Wow JR gets some tough calls
Man… I’m glad KLove shot that because it sure looked like he wanted to give it up…
Delly set a great screen to get JR a look. And LeBron ignored him.
LeBron played great in the 4th, but might be responsible for this loss. Get with your non-Kobe Chi!
I hate this again; can we run an offense?
I sorry that last shot is da game , Cavs not playing smart in the OT, well Lebron
Nothing like extra minutes for no reason.
Cavs not getting it to any of their actual three point shooters…
Why Lebron shoot da 3 and JR was open ? ughhhh
The announcers know as they say James will heave.
Fukedome!!!!!!!!!!!!
KLove isn’t even TRYING to get open for a shot, or get underneath for a rebound… what happened to him this half?
He had a couple offensive boards. I think Lebron wanted a clear lane
Great look Delly
Well, CLF… my score prediction is still in play… although I didn’t call the OT…
I was just going to say that!!! I gotta jump off of here, CALLING IT NOW>>> EG FTW!!!
Have a good one CLF!
It would be nice to see the cavs go back to so interior passes and good post play
Going back to back tomorrow I just hope that the Cavs can find a way to pull this one. It could easily turn into back to back losses.
It wasn’t as bad as Lebron’s normal GWing jumper attempt but it still didn’t go in
Free basketball is only good if they pull out a win. Otherwise it’s like eating bad Taco Bell after Thanksgiving dinner.
Damn it!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
Too predictable on that last shot…
I could understand da rationale of getting the ball at the backcourt, but I woulda rather a screen by TT or KLOVE for a easier path to the hoop
I get it. Running start. Less flattened defense.
This is ridiculous. And I just have a feeling Pels are going to win…
Has Lebron ever hit the mid range jumper to win it?
Run a play for JR…..make sure to take the last shot.
LBJ should fake the drive and get it to KLove for the post bucket to win.
Well all I could say is thank God Lebron made those free throws. Lets kill this game
bad defense by Delly. How is he late getting a hand up?
IDK, Holiday’s taking a step back 3 with a hand in his face.
Delly ugh. That was lousy.
One of those occasional plays where Delly looks like a regular Joe rather than an NBA athlete.
Looks like he slipped…
Lucky shot by Holiday. Heck it’s the Holiday season so why not?
Seriously, of course.
Hell of a shot by Holliday…
Please sit JR !! Don’t let him commit another silly foul….
Vitale potopenko vocal in the huddle!
Lebron has 23 of the Cavs 28 points in the 4th. ONE STOP CAVS !
Sweet Dude! LeBron killing it in the 4th quarter here.
Would have loved Delly shooting these
Holy cow, James even makes the free throws!
LeBron knocking down his throws when it matters…
Dang it!!! If the Cavs could’ve scored a 3, I would’ve nailed my prediction HAHA!!!
True!
Hey I noticed you went with VEgas as well… good call EG HAHA!!
Not gonna get that call……
Thought the whistle was blown prior to the pass?
Possible clear path!
YES!!! GREAT DEFENSE BY LOVE!!!!!!
What are they looking at?
LeBron wants them to look at the last play.
Great contest by Love.
Played a great game on that end
We lucky Tyreke aint make da shot or got a foul called. But I dont trust Lebron at the line
That was pretty good defense… Tyreke not in top shape just yet…
Yup.. believe this is his first game back.
Third, but still pretty recent…
O my bad! AHHA!
Love not looking to score at all…
Lets go back to forcing a switch early in the shot clock
Not the switch I was lookin for. but I’ll tak it
Another JR dumb play! OMG
Don’t know why JR didn’t just bat the ball out of bounds there…
Not sure how that would be a shot clock violation on the Pels Doug?
It was almost a violation on the Cavs before Brow gained possession. Which would have negated the open-court opportunity.
Argh. Gotta pass to corner not to wing there.
Gotta foul Brow there. That was awful.
What the hell just happened ? Lebron didnt box out Ryan and off a bad pass 4 points in a few seconds
Bron went for the block and nobody rotated onto Anderson.
Ugh. How did JR give that up?
