Live Thread: Lakers @ Cavs

Kobe Bryant and the Lakers are in Cleveland to do battle this evening. Â This is the last time Kobe will be in Quicken Loans Arena.
The Lakers have just 11 wins this season and sit at the bottom of the Western conference. They aren’t hopeless though. Young point guard Jordan Clarkson is putting up 15.2 points a night playing a team high 32.3 minutes a game.
Power Forward Julius Randle has shown the ability to lead fast breaks and has a decent set of post moves. He’s averaging a double-double, 11.2 points and 10 boards a game. D’Angelo Russell is full of promise, but hasn’t been played consistently enough to improve. He’s averaging 3.3 assists a game; however, he turns the ball over 2.4 times a night.
Former Cavalier coach, Byron Scott is the Lakers’ current coach. Scott prefers his veterans to the young guys right now, which is part the of the reason why Kobe Bryant is playing nearly 30 minutes a night, shooting 35% from the floor, and averaging 16.7 shots per game. Kobe leads LA in shots attempted and has the worst field goal percentage (after Ron Artest, but Artest takes just 5.1 attempts per game and he’s Artest) . But hey, KOBE!
This is Cleveland’s last game before the All-Star break. If they could get a win tonight moving the ball, playing sound defense, and trusting each other I would be happy. Going into the All-Star weekend with a two game win streak (even if it is against two bottom tier teams) from playing good game plan based basketball would help everyone, including myself, feel better about the Cavs.
Matthew Dellavedova will miss tonight with a sore hamstring. This is the fifth game he’s missed.
Bonus Story
I work with a Kobe fan. This man told me that Kobe is still an amazing scorer and just as efficient as LeBron. He said those words as I left my job today. I need this Cavs win because I can’t deal with the “Kobe still great” taunts I’ll deal with tomorrow if the Lakers win. And, the Cavs need to shut him down too. This Kobe lover will go off  if Kobe gets 20 points and takes 30 shots to do it.
Finally, take a few minutes to look back at some of Kobe’s highlights. Whether or not you like him or his style of play, you have to appreciate his dedication to winning and the creation of his Black Mamba persona.
I’ve been to Staples Center. But only once and saw their hockey team. Sweet venue!
I only saw Kobe play once live. I think it was 2006 in Cleveland and I was in the nose bleeds. Saw a lot of Laker fans at the Q. I think the Cavs won.
Cavs just killing it tonight.
Kyrie ISO on the left wing, drains the pull-up. Still should’ve gone to LBJ in the post against Kobe
Nope. That was a sweet shot.
I like that the crowd is being nice to Kobe.
Are the Doritos still cooking?
Cavs are so awesome. Since Lue has taken over they’ve been scoring a ton.
LBJ kicks it out to an open JR for 3
I’d chant Michael or Kobe any day of the week!
Meant to say Michael OVER Kobe!!!!
Kyrie goes ISO and drains the jumper on pure talent.
Awesome single-digit lead against one of the worst teams in the league!
Bad defense in the 2nd half along with sub-par offense
Irving with a stupid decision to go ISO when LBJ had Kobe guarding him…. LBJ was open, and Kyrie doesn’t get him the ball.
Kobe looking to post up Kyrie.
LBJ expecting AV to roll, and AV doesn’t… LBJ throw the ball away.
Irving and the backups should be embarrassed this lead is down to 10.
LBJ nice roll to the hoop and nice pass to AV for an easy layup
That pass was deflected by Russell’s grandkids.
Nice pass by AV to Shump… shump with a nice cut but blows the layup.
Nice pass from LBJ to Shumpert…. Shump wisely drives to the hoop for an easy fadeaway 2 in the paint.
Not to be inflammatory, more applauding Kobe for knowing when it’s time to go: If you add KB to CLE to play 15 mpg, don’t think they improve — McMenamin
Actually I think our bench could use Kobe… not that Kobe would ever play that role.
I don’t think it would work. I think we’d see a similar effect to what we are seeing with Mo…
I tend to agree with you… I was just saying he’d probably be the best scorer off the bench by default.
Maybe, but I think the point is that the team wouldn’t improve. He’s cooked!
I agree… I was more making a backhand joke about our bench’s inability to score.
LBJ running point because Lue tired of seeing no offensive sets
I’m wih Cols, let’s see some Kobe-Bron 1-on-1!
LBJ runs offense, they get the ball to Moz on the block, Moz delivers.
Lue with another rage TO!
The Russell’s Nuts Game > The Jordan Flu Game
Irving goes one on five, drives the lane, misses the layup
Irving dribbles to nowhere, RJ tries to bail him out to no avail
Shumpert almost ruins that offensive possession…. Kyrie sweet pass to Mozerati and he THROWS THE HAMMER DOWN!
My feed froze right as Kyrie threw the pass, and the only question was: “Is Moz really gonna catch that pass?”
HAHAHA!!! HE DID RDE!!!
The Moz slams are the best. He has no lift but it shouldn’t matter.
Irving with a nice cross key pass to RJ for the 3
Gotta go cook some Doritos.
Who cooks Doritos????
Sounds like nachos with Doridos… what do you expect out in Colorado…
Irving looking great.
Ok. Cavs still sweet. Lou Williams is also good.
He couldn’t defend a lemonade stand.
Lue with a rage TO.
Just taking a break to tell LBJ and the Cavs how awesome they are.
No, that’s actually why Cols left the thread ;) LOL
Irving no pass offense and misses the jumper.
Is there anywhere to watch the post game presser after the espn feed switches games?
Usually FSO carries all of that.
Maybe NBATV too?
Oh nvm, foxsportsgo is covering the game themselves too. I always thought they didn’t stream the national games.
The Cavs defensive assistant is pretty short huh?
Looked like KLOVE took a shot on the shoulder blade/armpit on replay.
Kyrie with a nice pass to Mozerati…. gets the foul
Mozerati hitting the midrange 2.
Favorite stat of the night: Artest has tkan 5 threes (made none of course)
#Cavs coach Tyronn Lue told ESPN Kevin Love has a stinger
Fingers crossed.
The Varejao and Mozgov set thooooo
Ugh. Ok gotta go again.
Cavs are awesome.
CLE with their worst defensive quarter of the night. Luckily Lakers defense so tragic it doesn’t matter.
Cavs with an awesome quarter and up 20. Yeah. I leav for one minute they are so awesome
LBJ drives the rim, hits rolling TT for nice lob
Is Kevin Love ok? Is he just trying to give Varejao minutes?
Dude, we’ve moved on from Love’s shoulder to Russell’s nuts.
Left with shoulder problems waiting to hear more and will not be back tonight. Super nervous
You didn’t get the news? Love went out with a left shoulder injury. Same one as last year. Last word was they don’t believe it to be serious. Thats what they said last time tho. Either way, he won’t be back tonight. I can’t think of anything but those xray results…
Obviously got the news as I watched the play live and am still concerned. Kobe barely bumped him! Starting to wonder if Delly and Varejao injuries are James-cation of last year?
Ok. I gotta go. But remember. Cavs are sweet.
I wrote this on my forehead in case I forget. It’ll be a reminder when I look in the pond or mirror.
LBJ another step back 3 for a predictable brick…. after dribbling too long.
James is just so awesome.
Awesome, or awesomer, or awesomest?
TT nice pass to open LBJ for 3.
LIKE I SAID ” GIVE ME THE GRIEFF “—HIS TRADE VALUE MAY HAVE JUST PLUMETTED / NOW IS THE TIME TO GET HIM CHEAP—-TORONTO ALREADY ON THE PHONE
Torontonis no threat.
Good shot by James. Just needs to keep shooting.
LBJ with two nice passes to open 3 point shooters, both miss terribly.
If anyone is going to miss terribly, it should be LeBron.
Boom. Great shot by LeBron.
Lounwilliams is fun.
Not as fun as Ty Lue Williams!!!!
LBJ step back 3 for a predictable brick.
Sweet pass by James. But shump airball
LeBrons pass is nuts https://vine.co/v/inWphWajlaZ
I see what you did there
What’s dead pop?
I wish I had hair like SHUMP
Nice step back from James. Need more of those.
I hope Mo can get out of his funk.
The matrix was good.
LeBron. Kyrie. TT looking sweet.
Andy looking OK.
This FebreZe commercial is so dumb.
Mo trying to run offense but Moz doesn’t know what to do… LBJ bails out the possession with a nice cut.
Right in the crotch. Sucks.
LeBron just chucked the ball at Russell’s nads!!!
Not as bad as Ginobli getting stomped in the nuts by David West!
Oh man. What happened to Russell?
TT has flashed some good passing skills this season. That could turn him into a devastating pick n roll screener.
Great offense by Cavs. They are awesome.
But still lookin great.
