Live Thread: Cavs vs. Celtics (#MeasuringStick)
2016-12-29Now that the Boston Celtics are finally healthy, it sounds like they’re bringing this with them to Cleveland tonight to see how they measure up to the Cavs in a nationally televised tilt. The first time these two teams sized each other up, the guys in green came up a bit short… although that was without their newest 6’10” addition in the middle, Al Horford, or the Celtic version of a LeBron shadow in Jae Crowder. This time around, the Cavs are the ones down a man with J.R. Smith out for a couple of months. After a slow start to the season, Boston has won six of their last seven to inch their way back up to third place in the conference at 19-13. The Cavs are fresh off a forgettable let-down game against the Pistons after a memorable Christmas Day victory over the Warriors.
Which team will stand taller when it’s all said and done? It’ll be the Celtics according to this guy…
But I’m predicting the return of a rested LeBron after a game off will bring back a measure of stability to the Cavs… and who knows, maybe even the smallest Cav will make an impact after his 33/7/7 slash line last night in Canton. Cavs win a spirited one, 121-117.
Catch all the action on TNT starting at 8pm EST.
I don’t know the stats on this but does Kevin Love play out of his mind against the Celtics? It was fun to see him own them in this game.
Nice win – domination for 3 quarters and then typical Cavs malaise. I didnt see too much from Boston to worry about in a 7 game series. Scheme on Isiah and theres no one else that creates reliabally for them.
Horford – what a dumpster fire. TT owns him again.
Lue says Irving had cramps, not a hammy pull. LBJ played a crapload of minutes…they need to find a way to fatten their roster. Need at least one more guy who fan give them something…
Whoop whoop

We were sloppy. 18 TOs (James 8, KI 4, Love 4).
LBJ was already thinking about his birthday tomorrow…
Kyrie 32/12/5 on 12-17… stick that in your RAPM pipe and smoke it @JerryEnglemann…
Kyrie was playing really well recently and now this injury. It really sucks!
I bet he’s fine… probably sits out the Charlotte game Saturday…
I hope you are right. Hamstrings injuries can be really recurrent.
Yep. Played track. They never go away!
Hope Bill Simmons enjoyed the show..commence the drunk, bitter tweets…
Nothing on tonight’s game yet, but WTH is this?

If either of them played for the Celtics, it would be a much different poll, of course…
Oh Nooooo Not Again he screams
LBJ still gives Smart a hug after the game…
GAME! Horford is the worst investment Boston could have made…
RJ! Two huge ones. The freethrows were big too.
Kyrie still in pain. That sucks!! Those hamstring injuries are so nagging.
Hamstring injuries are one of the worst. Let’s hope the Cavs can treat him well and it doesn’t become recurrent for Kyrie.
And again the Cavs need a backup PG ASAP!
Looks real stupid now him playing in Pistons game.
Why? The hamstring didn’t happen in that game…
Injuries most of the time come from I would called it excessive usage of a player and Kyrie has to go into try hard mode to try to carry the Cavs against opponents when LBJ is not playing. Maybe we are wrong but I believe we’ve got a fair point I guess.
He’s got a history. It’s the truth and it we all have seen it. Not worth it.
I was thinking the same just now.
Nice game by RJ…clutch freebies there…screw Brad Stevens.
I don’t know if I’d have had Jae Crowder taking that three…
Not a good game for the Cavs. Their depth was exposed. Blueprint to give them problems – wear them out with an overaggressive defense and pace.
True but those turnovers really killed them tonight.
Without the Jerebko buckets, it never gets there…
I just checked…he had 12 points….seemed like 20…
Disagree… Cavs played great building the 20 point lead… then took foot off gas and got sloppy…
Whew! Had a look for the lead.
Nice board RJ….thank you
Jefferson with another game defining moment AGAIN! Is he our Enforcer??
I think we need to thank all the Cavs fans who shouted “one more year” when RJ was thinking of retiring.
LOL That would be those of us at the parade.
Man, sometimes I hate it when I’m almost right about the final score…
I said first to 120 wins.
I said 121-117…
James at the FT line. Clank. 2-6 for the game. 1 of 2.
Huge board by Old Man Dunking!
Owww. LBJ and his fts.
These free throws are killing Cavs…
Lucky call there.

Kyrie now limping on sideline…
Cavs over the limit and with only one timeout remaining…
UGH. I hate the Celtics. I hate this game.
+10 billion
A stop please. Put Liggs in
If Bron’s left heel wasn’t on the line… damn
Cavs have been incredibly sloppy this quarter, but the Celtics apparently aren’t going to miss the rest of the game.
Irving in obvious pain on the bench.
he has spent half the night on the deck
Celtics are 12-7 on the road…
LeBron’s D has been garbage this quarter.
Celtics go back to overaggressive on the perimeter. Cavs with totally dead legs and instead of sagging and welcoming the clanking Js they overplay and give up back to back to back layups to LeBron and Kyrie.
Ky being MFQ despite the hammy.
Nobody home on either of those last two possessions…
MAKE THOMAS GO RIGHT!!!
I don’t know how Kyrie does it!
Kyrie lazily walking the ball up leads to a turnover. LeBron redeems in the post.
Boston bench outscoring the Cavs 45-13…
We go into chill mode too often. Can’t do that vs. the C’s. That play from James was pure trash.
Cripes. That sequence was disastrous.
This is bad.
Cavs look completely gassed and Celtics look fresh as daisies
No Celtic has played more than 31 minutes…
Smith hurts and so does Dunleavy not producing a ton and essentially not playing.
Lazy as hell from James.
Cavs sloppy… fall asleep on the turnover…
Lots of time. Whew! Go to the hoop!
I don’t know if it was intentional, but the Celtics played a frenetic, overaggressive D with little guys for 3 quarters and then switched to their best defensive lineup. Cavs have looked so gassed this quarter. They’re playing like they just want it to be over already. having a bit more rotation players would help immensly in a game like this
Do you think this was Stevens’ strategy all along?
see you maybe not
That was a very thorough foul by Bradley on Irving. Few body parts left unscathed.
