Live Thread: Cavs @ Sixers

Cleveland heads to Philly with the No. 3 seed basically on the line. Of course Philly is without Joel Embiid after he broke his orbital bone, but Embiid did just clear the NBA concussion protocol. For the Cavs, they’re thin at the point guard spot, with Hill convalescing due to his ankle sprain, and Calderon out due to hamstring tightness.
My guess? The Cavs run the same starters they did last night, with Cedi starting out on Reddick in the Cavs’ “switch everything” defense (of course, Kyle Korver would look good there too). Hopefully, Kevin Love looks to be aggressive and isn’t as passive as he was in the second half last night and attacks Amir at the line and in the post. The Sixers will run their own unconventional lineup of Simmons, Reddick, Saric, Covington, and Amir Johnson.
Off the bench, Markelle Fultz isn’t looking too shabby with a solid floor game of 13 points, seven dimes, and seven assists per 36 minutes. Of course, he’s shooting just 38% from the field, so limiting him to being a “scorer” is a win. The Philly bench energy will be a factor again tonight, and will hound Jordan Clarkson when LeBron’s off the floor. Bellinelli bring outside shooting off the pine, and Richaun Holmes and McConnell bring energy. Matching that energy and closing out shooters will be key. Not so optimistic about that last part.
Prediction: playoff nerves limit the Sixers’ shooting from the outside, and the Cavs win a squeaker: 115-112.

Indy–>Toronto–>Philly w/ Embiid is probably the hardest path the Cavs could have taken for themselves. Certainly harder than Miami–>Boston–>Toronto.
That said we with LeBron’s weirdness around Miami, we can’t say for sure Miami easier than Indy and we had to go through Toronto either way.
Avoiding Miami and Boston is certainly a way to avoid thugs and injuries and Pacers and 76ers definitely better prep for Houston or GS style than Miami and Boston.
Miami has to play OKC. There’s a chance we finish 3rd and face MKE in 1st round. Things far from settled.

Seeding not finalized yet. If we win both against Knicks but Philly loses 1 of Dallas, Atlanta, or Milwaukee then we still get 3rd seed because we’re a division leader and Philly isn’t. Milwaukee may have something to play for in that final game to avoid Toronto.
And yet, Jeff Green logged a game high 41 minutes. Had a whopping 5 rebounds and 0 blocks and 0 steal too!
Dear Lord, don’t let this scoring outburst fool the coaching staff into giving Jeff Green more playing time, let alone starting slot. He is often at the heart of the many defensive breakdowns and rebounds like a midget. I repeat, Cavs won’t go far with a powerless forward starting at the power forward position.
I know Green had his best game EVAR tonight, but I think if Lue could play him 72 minutes a game, he would…and the Cavs get annihilated on the boards with Green…

I have been saying this for a LONG time but the Cavs would make things so much easier for themselves if they played with more consistent ball movement. The offense makes it to easy on the other teams defense sometimes with the One pass sets they run. Also these last 2 games Lue has been making some ridiculous rotations. The lineup he used yesterday with Nance and TT on the floor at the same time and that lineup he had out to start the 2nd should Never happen.

To be honest the 3rd spot doesn’t matter that much what matters (I believe) is that the Cavs fix their defense which is their biggest question mark right now.
