Playoff Live Thread: Cavs vs. Pacers, Game 2 (#Whatever…)
2018-04-18
Well, Game 1 is in the rear view… and the hope is for Game 2 that the Cavaliers aren’t too complacent to read past the first word of this year’s team playoff slogan. It certainly seemed like it in their sleepy, sloppy dud of an opener to the post-season. Actually, I have no room to talk, since I missed the game entirely due to some work and family commitments… but the high low lights were painful enough to glance through. If you want a salient and informative breakdown of some of the finer points, make sure you check out David’s Woodshop article if you haven’t yet.
LeBron has been on the record many times about how playoff seeding isn’t important to him, and now the Cavs find themselves essentially in the five seed after losing home court advantage in the series to the Pacers. Whatever you feel like blaming the loss on… be it LeBron’s early passivity, his newer teammates inexperience or inability to gel under the bright lights of the playoffs, Kevin Love either not getting enough shots or not demanding the ball in the post more, poor defensive rotations, awful coaching, general make or miss league variance or even Victor Oladipo’s revenge for Dan Gilbert taking veiled shots at him over the summer… it’s one game, and it’s over. That said, there’s probably never been a second game of the first round more important to win than tonight’s game.
Ty Lue has been teasing changes to his starting lineup since about five minutes after he walked off the court on Sunday… but still no definitive word yet (and now it’s official).

We do know that George Hill is a bit banged up after that hard screen, and that Rodney Hood was excused from practice earlier in the day… here’s why…
Looks like Rodney Hood welcomed twins into the world this morning. https://t.co/VgX2Y3oPsq

All that really matters though is that LeBron comes out aggressively, Kevin Love demands the ball in the post, the Cavaliers’ sharpshooters actually make some shots, and the Cavs play with more intensity and physicality on defense… y’know, like a team that actually does whatever it takes to win… rather than just whatever.
My predictions haven’t been great lately, so I’m just going to say the Cavs should and will win this game, although it won’t be easy, and it will take a better triple double from LeBron than Sunday’s triple double.
Catch all the action starting at 7pm EST on TNT… and as always, chime in here with your thoughts along the way.
GO CAVS!

Very sad news…

Very sad.
Wow, that’s terrible. Best to Pop.
That sucks.
Prayers for coach Pop and his family.
Wow, that takes the wind out of me. You’re in our thoughts, Pop. Prayers for you and your family.
Really think Cedi should get some play, just put him in with Love/ Korver and Lebron…you don’t really want him in some lean scoring lineup, or with Clarkson and nothing much else…
I like that starting five together because it creates huge lanes for LBJ. I would almost play Cedi for Clarkson and let Calderon run the point with love as the primary option and a heavy dose of nance screen and rolls. Cedi spots up or cuts and plays d in that group with hood as the other shooter. With that five you have five guys that don’t stop ball and four guys who are ok to good spot up shooters.
How does Turner have zero rebounds? Did he learn from Jeff Green?
Very strange. Could of sworn he had some oboards.
Nice PLAY in the last possession. LNJ lob to Bron.
Excellent half, though I think Dipo’s foul trouble helped us.
Minutes: Smith 21, Bron 20, Love 18, Korver 15, Hill 13, Nance 9, Hood 8, Calderon 7, Green & Clarkson 4.
Aside from no Cedi, that is smart minutes distribution in a must win game.
Good points!
LOL

He and mike miller had perfect shot rotation
Dang. If only my parents had given me an alliterative name…
Good half. Indy impressed me by coming back and keeping it close. Doesn’t seem like they will fold. They really exploited Turner’s size down low. I am worried about non-LBJ lineups. Seems like he is going to have to play 44 minutes a game these playoffs. We really do miss another guy who can break down the d. Clarkson would seemingly fit but he has blinders and isn’t a great passer anyway. Need love to demand the ball in the post and Lue to make that a priority when LBJ sits. Or they need some plays with more weakside movement… Read more »
Or even some Love at the elbow. He is close to 90% from the line. If a 5 is on him, pump & attack the tack. If he backs off, drill the shot.

LBJ, LN and KK is a nice offensive trio.
Thought JR played a pretty good half…just need a little more scoring from him, Hood and I hope Hill…
He let Oladipo waltz right onto the lane by going to his(JR’s) right and not his left.
Yeah, Dipo is a tough qguard, and JR is not the ideal defender for him…
Since 39-35 cavs went on 20-11 run

Why doesn’t that young ever get called for fouls? Like ever?
Cavs get Oladipo in foul trouble pacers screwed…keep aggression going second half
Best sight other than James going berserk: Green with a warm up jersey on, and towel around his neck
GREAT DEFENSIVE EFFORT ON THE LAST POSSESSION!!!!!!!
Lebron James. Is. Not. Playin.
Very little Jeff Green that half…maybe Lue/ staff fipured out he’s not a great piece for this series…
Hopefully that means more Cedi the rest of the way
That would be great.
LNJ TO LBJ!!!!!!!! WHAT A PLAY!!!!!!
Great pass by nance and great read by lbj
What a play! Lance to the king!
Great turnaround guys!
Webber you’re an idiot. It was a clear foul on turner
NANCE TO BRON!!!
Nice pass, Larry!
LBJ WITH DETERMINATION IN HIS EYES!!!
Beast mode #23 !
Jordan esque dunk on the steal
Bron going right at Turner now!
LBJ WITH THE STEAL AND DUNK!!!!!
Haha. LeBron stared down the ref after that dunk.
Missed foul on turner. No ball, just a push
25 points for Lebron after that slam…
LBJ REVENGE!
What are these officials looking at?? Turner got him on the arm!
I thought he shoved him under the basket!
Good foul, JR. Ridiculous no call
Smart foul by JR to get Lebron back down the court…
Yup… great play!
NICE CHARGE KORVER!!!!! FANTASTIC HUSTLE!!!
Nice D kyle
TAKE A CHARGEZUS!!
Rodney made the right pass there…
WHAT A BS CALL…. WHERE WAS THE FOUL????
That was a weak ass call on Hill…
Lol. Total flop.
Cavs gambling a bit in the passing lanes. Indy gotten a few easy layups
BUT KORVER NAILS THAT THREEE!!!!! NICE LOOK AHEAD!
Kev can’t buy a call vs. Thad Young…
O man surprised Korver didn’t nail that 3.
Korver huge right now.
Kk!

Gotta chuck the roller, guys.
KORVER TO LBJ!!!! GREAT PASS AND FINISH!
Thump!
The JAM!
Hope they can keep up the defensive intensity… make some hay while Dipo is out…
Green and Clarkson, -4 in 4 minutes.
Korver and Hill, +17 in 11 minutes.
Korver us such a great shooter. Unless he is getting abused defensively, he should be out there.
Actually playing one of the greatest 3-point shooters and working to have him actually attempt shots = winning strategy.
JR defense is quite a sight
Cannot freaking believe Korver played 4 minutes game 1 if he wasn’t gimpy..,
He said he was today
KORVER FOR THREEEEE!!!!! RAGE T.O. INDIANA!!!!!
Hope love’s ankle doesn’t swell up at halftime
Same here :(
Korver huge safety valve for stagnant offenses
Cue Kenny.

Webber must get paid by the word, What a fricking motormouth.
The fox feed>>>>>the TNT feed
Thanks, forgot it was on FSO…
Oladipo is a good player and hasn’t heart. The refs should be punishing an idiot like Turner or Stevenson
Has heart
That’s hilarious and a total makeup call for the charge two seconds before
Dipo should have had an O foul on the shove. Love drew it. Time to extend the lead.
