Live Thread: Cavs vs Pacers
2019-10-26Cleveland gets a tough opponent for its home opener. The Pacers are hungry for a win after dropping their opener to the Pistons. Both teams feature starters who just signed big extensions. Cedi Osman Extended for four years and $31 million this morning while Domantas Sabonis, the Pacers starting power forward signed a four year $74.9 million dollar extension. Both deals will probably end up being relative bargains compared to the Jaelyn Brown’s of the world.
The Pacers also added Malcolm Brogdon (4 Yr. $85 mil), Jeremy Lamb (3 Yr $31 Mil.), and the Pacers added TJ Warren in a trade with the Pacers. Four new players join Myles Turner in the starting lineup for Indy tonight as they take on the Cavs’ who’ll be rolling out Cedi, the Sexland Backcourt, Kevin Love, and Tristan Thompson. John Henson is also expected to play for the first time in a Cavs Uni.
Stopping the Pacers bigs, and Malcolm Brogdon will loom large for Cleveland. Brogdon put up 22 and 11 assists in his Indy debut, while Turner and Sabonis combined for 52 and 22 rebounds. Kevin Love needs a big night pulling the Pacers bigs out of the paint, and the Cavs need to shoot a decent percentage and take care of the ball.
Cleveland also gets its regular season debut of the remodeled Rocket Mortgage Fieldhouse.Let’s hope the Cavs’ new digs inspire some all-for-one play.
Correction: It appears Edmond Sumner will start for an injured Jeremy Lamb.
This was so much fun! I was back to pumping my fists and cheering on the couch. Didn’t happen too often last year.
I couldn’t watch this one. Bummer. The highlights were amazing. Actually, every highlight was Love/ TT.
Well, it certainly looks like we have four playable bigs: Love, TT, LNJ, and Henson. They each give us different things. 2 are on expirings and 1 is constantly mentioned in trade rumors. Hope they stick around for a bit.
The backcourt & wing situations have a long way to go. It is gonna be a roller coaster. Young guys. Raw guys. Limited guys. Gunners.
Been gone for a while… wasn’t too excited about the season given the state of the roster. First win definitely in enough to pique my interest again! Didn’t get a chance to watch, so looking forward to the recap. A few questions: 1) Judging by the comments, Love and TT led the way tonight. Love only had 8 shots though? Is he just not being aggressive or the guards not getting him the ball in the right spots? 1. Love could’ve had few more, but he drew a ton of fouls and went to the line like 10 times.
2. Henson’s defense is a game changer for the 2nd unit.
3. Defense looks fantastic… they’re trying and making good decisions generally. Missing Oladipo is definitely a big qualifier though.
Yeah, Love’s FG attempts are deceiving because of all the fouls he drew and the 9 assists. They could still get him the ball even more but it was a majorly successful course correction after game one.
Also with Love, 9 assists a lot of them because he took advantage of double teams that came his way. Also, Garland and Sexton really struggled to run offense at the end of the 4th quarter.

That’s really cool. They are going to lose a lot of games this season, but it’s nice to see them having fun right now.

I cannot believe I am going to say this, but I may have underestimated the Longabarfi factor.
Never going to be a downside moving him on, but yeah – results so far would suggest he was a sandbag.
He’s a game changer for sure.
Henson can still def make a difference defensively which is cool to see. His arms are freaky long.
Two great defensive performances, one crappy offensive performance, one great offensive performance…. I’ll take that defense all day!
