Live Thread: Kings @ Cavs
2022-12-09Good evening CtB!
The Cavs welcome NBA Champion Matthew Dellavedova and the Sacramento Kings to the shores of Lake Erie, hoping to avenge a 120-127 loss during their west coast tour. Coach Mike Brown has his guys playing some fantastic ball, so the Cavs will have their work cut out for them if they want to earn that W. Both teams will be without their premier perimeter player as De’Aaron Fox and Donovan Mitchell will sit this one out with injuries. Rumors are Caris LeVert will be starting in his place. Kevin Love and Terence Davis will both also be out with injury/sickness, so both teams are dealing with issues.
This matchup features the best defense in the NBA (Cavs) against a top 5 offense (Kings). This is also a matchup about who can control the pace of the game, with the Cavs being the slowest paced team in the NBA versus a top 6 fastest pace team in the Kings. “Styles make fights” so it should be a great test for the Cavs regarding how to impose their will onto the opponent.
Tip off is scheduled for 7:30PM and will be broadcasted live on Bally Sports Ohio/Great Lakes, GO CAVS!

JUST THROWING IT OUT THERE —–IF // WHEN WE CAN GET —–THE KEY HERE IS HEALTHY—-WINDLER BACK—DOES HE// WILL HE MOVE THE NEEDLE ANY AT THE SMALL FORWARD —–THINK THE KID HAS POTENTIAL WE HAVE NEVER GOTTEN A LONG STRETCH OF HIM PLAYING— IN MY OPINION –TO REALLY PASS JUDGEMENT/// EVALUATE ACCURATELY——THOUGHTS// OPINIONS
I WILL WATCH WITH INTEREST THE 1ST 3.5 QTRS ……………” ALOT MORE BEER PLEASE ” FOR THE LAST 4 MIN’S——OUCH !!!!
JB blames himself the collapse, per Fedor.
So I guess for those of us catching up on the replay….we just watch the 1st 3Q?
Skip the last 4 minutes.
👍
my least favorite play of the game was late in the 4th when the kings were up 3 or 4 and we were OOB in the half court. Instead of running a play for a good shot, we simply inbounded to garland like there was 10 mins left in the game and started the normal offense. We aren’t winning anything this year unless something gets systematized. They look like pickup ball too often. That gets you annihilated in the playoffs. happened last year in the play-in.
Yeah, what we’ve seen is that they really have trouble against physical, aggressive teams who play smart and stick to their game plan.In the playoffs that’s gonna be a problem when teams can take a few days and cook up some looks that’ll stymie them.
The out of bounds thing is an ongoing liability.I can’t remember when I’ve seen them run one that made me go “wow, what a great execution of a well drawn up play”.They just don’t seem to do it, which ties into ragged, one on one ,hero ball antics.

We have two below .500 teams up next. They have to take care of business.
No Mitchell, no Love, no Wade. Sacramento is good. We didn’t have our best player and two key rotation pieces. We played well despite missing essential pieces. The best teams don’t come close to winning them all.
Wade would have shut off some of their looks from 3-pt land, that is for sure. Although for “most”
of the 2d half the Cavs guarded well there.
Yeah I like this take, but we had it, and then we let ourselves get Cavalanched. I feel like this may be a game we regret losing later on.
Good point

At this point I wish Garland would go the Rip Hamilton route and get used to wearing goggles, because for whatever reason he seems to get raked in the eyes every single game.
I thought about that too. Apparently he tried it in practice and hated it. That being said, it’s really on these lame officials to do something. The Cavs need a bruiser to highlight the issue.
Tomorrow is must win / s
Diakite would have been perfect to give fouls to Sabonis, and would have mitigated Allen’s foul troubles tonight.
I know a very back seat driver comment. And a “well looking back” they should’ve…
I don’t see why he wouldn’t have just been “perfect to give some minutes to”. Fouls or not, the kid can play.
Yeah, wasn’t it just a couple weeks ago that JB acknowledged Diakite implemented the defensive plan on Embiid to “perfection,” after he and Mobley put Embiid in jail all night? That never happened I guess? I feel like whoever did that could have contributed something positive for 15 minutes helping on Sabonis. Just head-scratching.
great point about how they guarded Embiid.
I mean, I don’t want to overstate the point because I realize it wouldn’t have been a good idea to pack the lane tonight on D with the way the Kings were shooting. It just goes to the confusion about who JB trusts, and why. If playing great defense, and implementing the coach’s plan for that defense, against superstar Big doesn’t earn trust, then what does?
I believe with JB it is “national announcer’s opinions of players” that earn his trust. He’s uncreative, inelastic, and undisciplined. And worse…Evan mobley is shooting 21% from three or something close to that. Diakite is at 33%. They play the same position. A few of those mins can go to Mamadi especially if we’re planning on getting 3s from the 4 spot
I hope Mitchell is back tomorrow and we shut down that fool SGA, who I can’t stand.
Oh, I have very little doubt he will get 30+, many of them assisted by obvious carries…no one in the NBA does that more than SGA does…
I didn’t realize. Even more reason to dislike him.
Garland was a disaster tonight. He looks lost on offense half the time and is an easy bucket on defense.
Thats what you get when your coach doesnt play enough guys when the team is healthy. You miss one of 8 regulars and everyone is thrown off. Your miss 3 of them? Youre screwed at the end of games.
I think if anything I hope this game showed JB that he can trust Neto and LeVert to run the offense in stints.
You have to earn JB’s trust. Which is to say, you never will get it.
Exactly… if he can’t trust his bench then trade some of these players for a consistent 3 and D player, if he’s out there.
DG was not good at all in the 4th…hope he takes this performance and makes a lesson of it…some of his dumbest basketball of his professional life…
yup, big three sucked tonight on offense 14 turnovers.
we got 13 more shots up than they did. still lost by double digits. that’s brutal.
Ya know,I was just about to say this is one of the best games I’ve seen them play and then they completely imploded. They we’re meeting aggression with aggression and playing smart and they devolved into dg hero ball and mistake after mistake. So,they’re not there yet.
We looked exactly like we did last year when we didn’t have Mitchell…couldn’t close then and can’t close now with Mitchell out…
Exactly, they haven’t turned that corner yet.Completely shut down in the last 5 mins.
Hope Spida is back tomorrow. Can we get healthy?
Diakite was in his warmups, JB just didn’t use him… rather give Mobley 40 minutes on a back to back LMFAOOOO
Yeah I don’t get it?
It just seems to me that last year’s end of the bench guys demonstrably belonged there (Goodwin, Pangos, Rondo except on his “fountain of youth” nights). But I really don’t see what objectively makes Neto and Diakite less playable than the Stevens’ & Okoro’s of the world.
Totally agree Windmill!
They needed a banger and they left him sitting there.
I don’t understand why Neto was “unplayable” until tonight andI don’t understand why Diakite remains “unplayable.”
It’s a matter of trust, as Billy Joel put it…
We would all like some answers Windmill!
It was generally a fun game but they kind of blew at the end.
We need someone to start shit with opposing players who hit DG in the face. I don’t care if they get tossed.
okay I’m done with this game.. so disappointing
Garland is flypaper kyrie when he gets tired. Destroys the defense
That’s game. I’ll be glad to not face the Kings again this year.
I wish we would face them on a weekly basis. Teaches us every one of our bad habits. Mike brown is a better coach than JB, regardless of who we are missing.
Yeah he’s also been a coach much longer.
That being said, I’m becoming less and less of a fan of JB.
How does that not a flagrant?
This unit playing like they haven’t played together
Thanks for calling that travel refs and not that hit in the face to DG
Garland hit in the face again…
I think this will be a loss, unfortunately…
One of the worst game management coaches in the league.
Cavs and JB absolutely pissed this away.
DG playing hero ball and it took all the air out of our offense. Game over. What did you learn?
Saw this a lot last year. Down the stretch confidence fades a bit against tough D and people just missing shots and forcing passes.
Yeah, right now that is what separates Donovan from Darius, the confidence late in games. Donovan is certainly capable of his share of sloppy passes, turnovers, etc – but in clutch time, he’s generally aggressive and decisive. I know Garland’s skills aren’t identical, but I think he could take more decisive shots as well, less “Nashing without a plan,” in these late game situations.
Even though DG is savvy with the ball, DM is a better finisher.. that last 3 was the dagger
It’s been a fun game despite this meltdown!
JA, DG five turnovers each, Mobley 4 turnovers… they didn’t come out focused at all tonight.
Sac nearly matched our TOs, but executed down the stretch.
DG is not a closer. His hero ball lost us the game.
WTF. Just run a damned pick and roll? What is this offense?
Is this a 16-0 run?
101-87 = 14-0 run since we were up 95-87
