Live Thread: Warriors @ Cavs
2016-12-25It’s the big day. The Warriors are in Cleveland for revenge. Last time they were in Cleveland was for game six, when they were on the verge of losing three in a row and not capturing an almost sure thing title. The Warriors are coming in at full strength. And, they have swapped out Harrison Barnes for some guy named Kevin Durant.
Golden State is currently 27-4, which is the best mark in the league. They have the second ranked offense and defense. Durant, Stephen Curry, and Klay Thompson are all averaging over twenty points a game, and Draymond Green is still leading their assault notching 7.4 assists a game.
The Cavs will be without J.R. Smith, but the rest of the team should be ready to go. Kevin Love, LeBron James, and Kyrie Irving have all had some rest over the past couple of weeks.
What to Watch
1. There will be lots of cross matching today. Love won’t cover Green for much of the game, and LeBron probably won’t cover Durant until late into the game. The Warriors will shuffle their coverage too. It will be fun to see which guys can capitalize the most when they aren’t being locked down.
2. Every one always talks about how fast the Warriors play and how well they pass the ball. The Cavs need to dictate the pace. They need to have solid offensive possessions and not turn the ball over. And, slow it down. Let James run some pick and rolls after holding the ball for ten seconds. Let Irving go to work against Curry. Let the whole team go to work against Curry. He’s their weakest defender and when the Warriors try to counter that by switching anything he’s involved in, the Cavs can crush the mismatches.
3. James is dominant against Durant. He shut him down once in a Finals series, and it just feels like he wins against him. This season the pair is pretty close statistically.
4. The Cavs should try and play big today. This forces the Warriors to try and rebound or else Love and Tristan can get the Cavs too many second chances. Having to rebound like that will keep them from getting out on the break.
I’m picking the Cavs. The Warriors have this game built up too much and their nerves may get the best of them. Cavs 115, Warriors 100.
Merry Christmas!

What a game. First Cavs game I’ve gotten to watch with my brother and father since maybe Christmas 2011. Such great performances by LeBron, KI and, of course, RJ- the man who managed to slam dunk his way into the number one trend on twitter in Christmas Day. Hope everyone had/has a good holiday. Browns win, 49ers win, EE signed, Cavs with a fun game, everything is good for the moment.
HO-HO-HO —WHERE IS OUR COLS
Kd on the final play – “i fell. And I didnt fall on my own”.
Can someone do the meme with kd in a cavs jersey after the game pls?

Any update on liggins?
He played in the second half, but looked hampered by the knee…
WOW—–GRANDKIDS ARE GONE ( WHEW I SURVIVED —JUST LIKE THE CAVS DID I GUESS ) SOUNDS LIKE A CLASSIC GAME —SAW THE R.J. ( TURN BACK THE HANDS OF TIME ) DUNK —FANTASTIC —-KY ALMOST WITH A TRIPLE DOUBLE ( 7 STEALS ) TURNING INTO A COMPLETE / TEAM PLAYER —-NO SIGN OF DUNLEAVY ?—-ALSO WHAT DID EVEYONE THINK OF LIGS PEFORMANCE –STAGE TOO BIG FOR HIM OR NOT ?—-MAN NICE CHRISTMAS PRESENT FOR ALL—DOES ANYONE KNOW IF THEY ARE GOING TO REPLAY / SHOW THE GAME AGAIN TONIGHT / TOMORROW —-THANKS —AND OH YEAH THIS WAS WITHOUT SWISH
Liggins did well in his role, helped keep Curry in check with Delly-like end-to-end shadowing. But a nonfactor on offense.
I like that the Warriors still think the Cavs haven’t really beaten them. Let them keep thinking that.
Reminds me of the Pistons during the first Lebron era.
Cavs bench outscored Dubs bench 25-13… even though Shump and RJ went just 3-20 (1-10 from three)…
Take away RJ’s two dunks, and they were 1-18.
Plus we should have JR back for the playoffs to make our depth even better
I can’t stop watching this either… I hope Klay sees it in his nightmares…
https://vine.co/v/5EulMt0MjJ3
Remember when Shaun Livingston and Andre Iguodala used to make life difficult for the Cavs?
Yeah, they didn’t make much of an impact, thankfully.
Amazing how KI struggled for 3 quarters and even the start of the 4th…but in the end he is the hero and for good reason.
Which is better… watching Draymond play basketball… watching Draymond get a massage… or watching Draymond melt down early as his team blows a 14 point lead in the fourth quarter to lose their fourth straight to the Cavs?
Um….I think I’ll go with “meltdown”. That dunk by LBJ on Draymond sure looked a lot like the end of the 7th game….but this time I think LBJ had a little payback going on!
Classy from @CavsDan (although slightly inaccurate… it’s actually Kyrie Klaus who did it)

LOL!

That guy’s Twitter feed is pretty sharp for a Warriors beat writer.
I seen that! Sound like he said Thank You to me to Kyrie!

Why no Dunleavy?
Playoff rotations by Lue…
Also they have a game tomorrow.
LaMarcus Aldridge is 11-11 to start the Spurs/Bulls game… unbelievable…
Epic game. Merry Christmas everyone. J.R. : get healthy. Liggs is proving he has a lot to offer, but playoff minutes should go elsewhere.
Richard Jefferson is trending at #2 on Twitter right now…
This is AMAZING…

Great stuff
I’m proud of the job that Liggins did in this game. Really contributed defensively. Also, Mcten had a great tweet about RJ’s dunk on Klay. A Mychal Thompson dunk on Klay. “I’m your daddy.
I’m buying a poster of that poster… and hoping it becomes a Fathead…

I’m so glad Cavs fans talked RJ into playing another year!!
RJ & Kyrie giving Clay a hard time today
Agree… Lig did a terrific job on Curry…
Maybe we should reconsider if Curry id truly an elite basketball player or just caught lightning in a bottle for two or three years. The difference really shows now that he has a truly generational talent in Durant on his team.
Curry is overrated as hell, and I’ve been saying that for two years. He is a tremendous beneficiary of being on an excellent roster. It drives me nuts, all this greatest player in the world talk. He isn’t the greatest player on his own team, and that was before KD joined.
Agree wholeheartedly. Has one elite skill, albeit a very precious and on an otherwordly level, but that is it. Also, I couldn’t for the life of me understand why defenses defended the high pick n roll trapping Curry so far from the basket causing 4 on 3 situations every possession. How many 30-footers can he take, let alone make. The Cavs, dating back to when Blatt was the coach, have done a great job not overreacting to that and, guess what, he is not going to make too many 28-foot-off-the-dribble-off-balance-game-on-the-line threes. Anyway, his 2 MVPs, especially the unanimous one, will… Read more »
No. Give him his due. He had two great regular seasons.
sure, but it didn’t make him the greatest player in the world, as many have ascertained.
So did Steve Nash…
He’ll never finish in the top five for MVP again…
And the Cavs might be his least favorite team to play against. They didn’t even try to iso against him to wear him down like they did in the Finals, and he still only went 4-11 (2-7 from three).

Didn’t get to see the game live, though I saw the essential vines. Hope to watch it on youtube or somewhere.
I could send you a link that you can watch every game, but I don’t know if I am allowed to.
Thanks anyway, Greek! I think I’ll be able to find it.
Kyrie had 7 steals… none bigger than the last one…

Everyone rests @Pistons tomorrow?
Don’t even send the plane.
I just can’t stop watching this… This should make the NBA scared…

Not elite though according to ESPN.
No just Jeremias Englemann… he of the Church of RPM…
You are correct, my bad. He has to rethink his stat or his importance if players like Kyrie rate poorly in it.

Kevin Love being able to hold his own defensively is huge, as he gives us another weapon on offense and on the offensive boards we couldn’t count on last year. Let’s hope Griff adds another guard despite the huge win tonight.

Haynes is a douche, anyway. He wss on Truehoops pod recently and he basically said getting out of Cleveland was leaving jail. Hope he enjoyed the game.
Didn’t he come from California gig?
Hard to believe a mid-year regular season game could be so fantastic…and live up to its super hype!
I think the Block destroyed Iguodala’s career as a meaningful player, not that he had too much left in the tank anyway.
I am gonna watch this game approximately 16 times.
Cavs beat Dubs despite shooting 38% to their 48%…
https://vine.co/v/5Ezz5H9MlOi
Warriors got up 14 and let off the gass. Cavs cut it to 8 quick and the grinded out a win.
That game winning shot by Kyrie was Kobe-Bryant-bad shot taking and Kobe-Bryant-good shot making, if that makes sense.
I totally get it and you’re right. What luxury to have a Kobe AND a LeBron on our team.
Haha, that’s what I thought, too!
I’m glad they gave the ball to KD…
