Playoff Live Thread: Cavs vs. Pacers, Game 2 (#Whatever…)
2018-04-18
Well, Game 1 is in the rear view… and the hope is for Game 2 that the Cavaliers aren’t too complacent to read past the first word of this year’s team playoff slogan. It certainly seemed like it in their sleepy, sloppy dud of an opener to the post-season. Actually, I have no room to talk, since I missed the game entirely due to some work and family commitments… but the high low lights were painful enough to glance through. If you want a salient and informative breakdown of some of the finer points, make sure you check out David’s Woodshop article if you haven’t yet.
LeBron has been on the record many times about how playoff seeding isn’t important to him, and now the Cavs find themselves essentially in the five seed after losing home court advantage in the series to the Pacers. Whatever you feel like blaming the loss on… be it LeBron’s early passivity, his newer teammates inexperience or inability to gel under the bright lights of the playoffs, Kevin Love either not getting enough shots or not demanding the ball in the post more, poor defensive rotations, awful coaching, general make or miss league variance or even Victor Oladipo’s revenge for Dan Gilbert taking veiled shots at him over the summer… it’s one game, and it’s over. That said, there’s probably never been a second game of the first round more important to win than tonight’s game.
Ty Lue has been teasing changes to his starting lineup since about five minutes after he walked off the court on Sunday… but still no definitive word yet (and now it’s official).

We do know that George Hill is a bit banged up after that hard screen, and that Rodney Hood was excused from practice earlier in the day… here’s why…
Looks like Rodney Hood welcomed twins into the world this morning. https://t.co/VgX2Y3oPsq

All that really matters though is that LeBron comes out aggressively, Kevin Love demands the ball in the post, the Cavaliers’ sharpshooters actually make some shots, and the Cavs play with more intensity and physicality on defense… y’know, like a team that actually does whatever it takes to win… rather than just whatever.
My predictions haven’t been great lately, so I’m just going to say the Cavs should and will win this game, although it won’t be easy, and it will take a better triple double from LeBron than Sunday’s triple double.
Catch all the action starting at 7pm EST on TNT… and as always, chime in here with your thoughts along the way.
GO CAVS!

Jose steal!
KLove needs to average 20 and 10 for us to get to the finals
Well shoot. Even if we win this one…it is starting to feel like 2009. Except instead of yolo threes its yolo pick n roll layup line
Without an offense that runs anything but some rudimentary pindowns and screens for mismatches at the very beginning of possessions, it is LBJ or bust without a another scoring threat. If he isn’t creating the team has no sets to get easy buckets to fall back on. Reminds me of the Mike Brown era.
Bring back the hustle defense of the first quarter please…
Probably gassed out. Give me an offense with some plays to relieve LBJ from doing everything.
Can Cedi get a crack at Dipo???
Jeezzzz….
He should, but he’s a rookie and foreign, so no…
This trap scheme is awful.
Lebron needs to drive against Bogdanovic every time
13-4 run for indy since Hill’s fifth foul.
Not sure who’s the answer but someone has to guard Oladipo foul him hard when he drives and make him think twice
Cedi Osman is the answer.
I’d even try Clarkson (he’s obviously not going to play Cedi) to exude all his energy on stopping Oladipo
Cavs look so confused. Did they seriously just assume lebron was gonna go for 60?
No offense. No help on Dipo.
Down to 5.
We are really settling for js right now. James isn’t even trying to exploit Bogdan. Maybe he is gassed.
I’ve never seen a group of grown men hang their heads as much as this Cavs team. Good lord where is the coaching
Need to be able to stop Oladipo at the point of attack. One crossover and he’s in the paint
You can’t let Vic get a running start
Can SOMEONE please put Dipo on his ASS??
Offense kind of predictable and stagnant right now. How many times can you run a pin down for Korver at the very beginning of a possession before the other team compensates.
Nance needs to look for the finish more…he does that a lot…goes for the rebound when the play is in progress…
This situation absolutely SCREAMS for Cedi to get some minutes on Oladipo. Screams.
Yes. 100%
Co-sign.
Yep.
JR overr passed that
Bron needs to get aggressive again…
That was a 2 not a 3 from Turner.
KLove just has to provide more pts
Shocked how little Green…
Should have been a push for Calderon.
Uncalled travel on Dipo…
Love looks hurt
Ankle prob still bothering him…
Love looks horrible.
Sneaky Jose!
Love should be getting inside, not spotting up for three…
Bron should drive anytime Bogdanovich is guarding him…
Great hustle from Korver.
With Hill out with 5, could be too many minutes for Jose. A smart coach would alter his plan & play some Green at PG or Cedi (on defense).
I think that may be beyond Ty.
Also, put Dipo’s man in P&R with Bron. If they switch, back him down. He cannot foul.
Green was awful as a point forward earlier this year.
Would use Clarkson more
Turner just shoves Kevin to the ground…no foul
LeBron looking disinterested.
Boy wish love could finish over size a bit better. If he doesn’t get calls he really struggles inside.
Defense is brutal nobody talks
Why we don’t foul Oladipo hard is beyond me
GREAT hustle by Kyle!
Where’s the foul?!!
Turner went up vertical. Love has to be able to finish through vertical contact.
Korver has do many loose balls tonight.
Really think Love at center isn’t a smart long term play. For a few minutes, maybe, but he wears down and we lose our best second scoring option. Let Nance get beat up by opposing centers.
Kyle Korver, you rock, sir…
Why the hell did LBJ tell Kevin to trap instead of going back to turner? Directly led to open layup
PG: James
SG: Korver
SF: JR
PF: Love
C: Nance
This lineup won’t be stopped.
Lot of points there, for sure…
Want to see more Love in the post…
5 on Hill. Good coaching Ty.
Gonna need Jose… and maybe some Cedi…
I would play Cedi with Hill sitting…Lue won’t…
No foul there. Vic threw t
up garbage. Hill was standing near him.
WTF Hill has FIVE FOULS???
5 on Hill…that blows…
Uh OH… Hill is getting going!!!
The J is wet!!!!
Five fouls on Hill… uh oh
Hill!!! God it would be awesome if he could create some points for himself consistently.
Whelp, won’t see him until the fourth
What’s playoff scoring record for Cavs single game?
Bojanovic is a really good passer.
HILL YEAH!
YES! George!
LBJ jumper still solid
4 on Hill. Cedi or Jose?
The defense is truly awful
Keep shooting Bron!
Oh brutal foul to bail out the pacers
Lol. Flop
Seriously…
Cheapo foul…seriously…
Nice hill drive. Need that from him
Nice fake and score by Hill…
JR TO KORVER FOR THREEE!!!!
