Live Thread: Cavs vs Timberwolves

The Cavaliers travel to Kevin Love’s old stomping grounds tonight to face the disgruntled Jimmy Butler and his pack of timid youths. After a rough first game for Love, I’m sure he will want to bounce back and have a big game against his former team. The Wolves, meanwhile, lost their first game to the Spurs in a tight 112-108 contest. The Cavs face a tough first two opponents in Toronto and Minnesota. It gets easier for a short home stint but they’ll have to test their new uptempo offense against a Western Conference powerhouse. At the time of this writing, Nance and JR are still questionable and the TWolves are missing Justin Patton so they are nearly at full strength. As always Go Cavs!
Not to always make this blog all about Lebron, but I guess we will have to get used to articles like the one below, in which his time in Cleveland is written off as a time when he was surrounded by nobodies. Now he has ‘playmakers’ in La. Just really annoying, yet entirely unexpexted.

Anyone else think the scoring has gotten almost stupid this year?
It’ stupid. But players are far more skilled now than they were years ago. I have been watching the NBA since the ’70s. Believe me.
The players are better athletes and the NBA/rules/refs have done the same as in the NFL where defense is almost none existent.
There is also the 3pt shot now. While watching the game last night, I unfortunately got the Timberwolves’ stream, the announcers showed how in 2011(could had been earlier) the wolves took 18 – 3pt shots per game and were the in 1st place in that category. By 2014 they were at 24 – 3pt shots per game and were in 30th place. (My numbers could be off but you get the idea).
Yep. I think the rule changes are sort of a bit ridiculous, especially the one about impede paths on the perimeter. There needs to be more contact allowed. Not necessarily hand checks, but it can’t be zero contact. In their interior they need to give bigs back verticality, and give shot blockers some leeway.
Lol a bit. We will see if it keeps going at the same level. There just arent many grind-it-out defensive style teams anymore because it’s really hard to defend 50 threes a game now that guys realized they can shoot 40% from 28 feet. Opens up so much space to cover
Doesn’t help that they have neutered interior d. Guys like curry shouldn’t be able to score at the percent they do in the paint, but there is no contact allowed on guards anymore in the paint. Back in the day, Gobert probably could have averaged 4-5 blocks per game. But that isn’t possible anymore. Nba has neutered bigs and given the league to guards and guard like players. They have gone too far in that direction.
