Playoff Live Thread: Cavs @ Raptors, Game 2 (Do They Blow It Up?)
2018-05-03The Cavs return to the Air Canada Center for game 2 against the Raptors, and the stakes are actually high, just not for the Wine & Gold. The Raptors have faced their demise against the Cavs in the past two playoffs. Last year Cleveland beat them in just four games after taking six games to do the same in the 2016 playoffs. If the Cavs can take game two tonight, the Raptors will hear the noise that they just cannot get past LeBron James.
It’s hard to see them being able to come back from 0-2 and win at least two games on the road or even win four of the remaining five games. I’m getting ahead of myself though. Game one in the series was hard fought by both teams, the Cavs just weathered the storm better down the stretch after coming back from being down by as many as 13 points. Let’s get into tonight’s game.
Three Things To Watch
1. LeBron had a bad game 1. He said so himself to media. He put up 26 hitting just 12-30 from the floor and 1-8 from deep. He also contributed 13 assists and 11 boards. LeBron is sort of right, even though was a large reason why the team won. He won’t be that inefficient again, and he won’t be as tired as he was in game one after playing an emotional game seven against Indy just a day before. The Raptors may think they covered LeBron well last game, but they are fooling themselves. James was just off.
2. Kyle Korver got 17 shots up in game one. That must continue. He hit five of his 12 3-points shots. J.R. Smith needs to keep shooting too. He dropped five of his six 3s. Now, the Cavs must use that gravity this game. Korver and J.R. took just one shot at the rim between the both of them in game one. Teams don’t expect them to cut into the paint, so they can get quality looks when they do actually go down low. Watch in the video below how J.R. Smith is guarded after setting a screen for George Hill. Both Toronto players are pointing to the 3-line. That’s where they assume he’s going. Smith misses the layup shot, but that shot will be there for both him and Korver all night if they want it.
3. The Cavs started Kyle Korver on OG Anunoby. LeBron James started on Serge Ibaka. Tyronn Lue should consider switching those assignments. OG was able to burn Korver a few times with pure speed. He’s not the best 3-point shooter and he’s young, so you don’t necessarily need to stay out on him. LeBron James should cover OG mainly because it would allow him to drop back into the paint with less worry than when he is on Ibaka. OG wants to drive when he can or cut to the hoop. James will stop him if he does that and if he rains from deep, so be it. Serge Ibaka is a good cover for Korver because he’s the type of guy that’s been popping out to 3-land more frequently. Korver doesn’t need to help down low as often as he did in game one. He’s not as well suited to that as James. Ibaka took just three of his eight shots in the paint, so he’s not trying to bang. One of his inside shots was even a tip-in. Korver may not be the biggest guy, but he can play decent post defense and he will stop a lot of the tip-ins that happened in game one just because he boxes out consistently.
The Cavs have a great chance tonight. They survived a ‘poor’ LeBron game and got the win. James should be looking to dominate and take this series quickly with a bounce back performance, so I’m picking Cavs 121-111.
LeBron 13 for 19 in the second half
JR SWISH!!!!!!!!!!! EASY PEASY!!!!
OK Bron. Cut the clowning. Good timeout from Ty.

Oh my goodness PLEASE double team lebro
I mean… how do you even come back from this?
Only way is if the Cavs screw around and let them in games 3 an 4.
They’ll regroup. They’re a smart and talented team. They won’t lie down, and knowing the Cavs, we could easily fall asleep at the switch for a game or two.
That’s good comedy JoeyB…
Podcap tonight?
Yup
I would sit Bron now.
I’d sit Love – protect that thumb.
And this is in Toronto!!
Jalen can’t analyze crap
How about that Raptors bench, guys??
LBJ shows how he plays the game right… double comes, ball is immediately out.
It’s a morgue in there….again.
Take a long look Toronto, this may be the last basketball you see this year.
Props to Lue for sticking with Love. Both as a starter and after an 0-3 start to the game.
29 & 11 is legit. Up 20.
After the barrage, Toronto finally doubles LeBron

Lebron is just like “no, you can’t do anything”
I’m liking the Cavs chances in this game…
There arent even memes for this right now. These are such insanely tough shots
City of Toronto on suicide watch…
Utterly demoralizing
LeBron can take as many heat checks as he wants. God mode.
omg
That last LBJ jumper was insane
LeBron is ridiculous.
LBJ GOING FULL JORDAN!!!!!
Enough with that. He is going full LeBron.
Get 50 bron. go get it.
Unbelievable!
I hate the offense, but it is working well.
WITNESS
So excited for the 1 minute of Osman we’re going to get tonight.
RIDONCULOUS!!!
If DeRozan just gonna swap bucket with LBJ… Toronto is toast…
I think Lebron just understands every single think the Raps do…he sees through their defense…
GREEEN THREEEEEEE!!!!!!!!
Jeff Green stroking it tonight!!
UNBLOCKABLE!!! 41
It would be great if Jeff Green can be the Cavs version of Draymomd Green. Namely hitting annoying three pointers that piss off the other team
Love with a real man rebound…
The prevent offense is the reason we have had so few blowout wins this year…We get a 15 to 20 point lead then give it all back by running the P.O. with way too much time left in the game…It gets everybody out of rhythm
Did he make it?? I can’t look…
“The bottom!”
Thanks Simmo!
Steph Green….
Hood and Clarkson contributing absolutely nothing tonight.
I’ll give them a pass because we haven’t need them tonight. But going to need them at some point.
Don’t need em… And JC has played some good D btw…
Need some TT on JV…
Wondering, where is Nance?
Looks like out of the rotation… Lue did say he’d only play one of him and TT…
good TO. bring up the energy level here dont want the raps to even dream they can come back
CALL A TO LUE>>>>> WAKE UP.
Really want Hill in there over Clarkson….really want almost anyone over Clarkson…Calderon for one…
Other Cavs probably cold after so many LBJ possessions
Time to start passing the ball again LBJ. Keep it moving.
I didn’t think I’d say this this season but I think they need to put TT back in…
Good to. Lebrin with too many heat checks.
Lue should sit him for at least 2 minutes.
D is getting soft.
Same guys out there…
Derozan is getting more aggressive…
Good time out Ty…
Would love to see lebron use this attention to finish them with assists to shooters
Running the prevent offense with 8 minutes left is never a good thing…
Refs don’t even care about this game…. where the 24 call????
Ok enough goofing. Go back to playing regular offense
Dumb foul on Green there…
This is Jordan-esque…
Yup…. VERY.
It’s lebronesque
Keep moving the ball.
I knew LeBron’s quiet first quarter was a good omen for later on in the game…
Toronto unglued.
One too many… but JV loses it out of bounds LOL
AHAHAHAHAHAHAHA>…. LBJ!!!
Five fouls on Lowry… stays in the game…
fish grease!!!
Bron has his cape on.
Five on Lowry. Five on Siakem.
Hotter than fish grease…
