Live Thread: Cavs vs. Hawks (take 2)

Larry Drew makes his debut tonight as the acting interim coach voice of the Cavs. Sam Dekker looks to start at power forward in Kevin Love’s absense again. Look for the Cavs to play hard after being embarrassed by the Hawks last week. And with this being a chance to silence some of the noise, and to get a win before playing the Nuggets and going on the road for two games.
It’s not hard to imagine that Larry Drew is coaching for a contract tonight, and that a bad showing might leave him out in the cold.
Let’s hope he comes through and this team starts playing better basketball.
One t hing to worry about: Huey, Luey, and Drewy.
Love out a couple of weeks and possibly longer if surgery is needed. Wow.

Yeah…whatever happens with the coaching situation, I hope our new coach is at least as candid as Larry Drew. He is just a level above Lue in terms of understanding how to create a vision that guys can buy into. Lue will get another opportunity. He won a title and went to the finals mulyiple times…not every organization is smart enough to discount him as a beneficiary of LeBron Raymone James.
Actually…the more i think about it…the more i like Larry Drew for at least a couple years with this current group. He has the characteristics of a coach i want: 1. He wants to be unpredictable on not just the offensive end, but the defensive end. This honestly is my number one desire after experiencing Tye Lebron for 3 years. Give me more. Agree. Drew is off to a good start.
Can’t understand why the cavs would muck up morale by not giving drew a better contract. It’s not like they’re opposed to paying coaches not to coach if they change their mind this summer. #alwayspaythreecoaches
Cavs are closer to the 8th seed than the Lakers are at the moment.

The Larry Drew press conference is so refreshing vs listening to Ty Lue…. its 1 win but they looked like professionals tonight at least.

I dont think it works like that. Drew is ubder no obligation to act as head coach under his current contract. My thought is he will end up with a renegotiated 1 year deal for an extra couple million with the understanding he will get an interview for the job next summer.
Yeah, I imagine they can placate him with more money, and that’s how it’ll most likely play out…

Almost every player really showed what they are capable of this year. Now the Voice has to make sure he keeps using them in ways to complement each other.
So much more often tonight I looked at the court and our lineups actually seemed to match what we needed in ffbe situation.

i am hoping for better.. we shall see.. though sample size is small, data suggests drew should make a difference.. if they stop playing like a 3-40 team, i will acknowledge it… tonight was a start.. but certain (currently improbable) things need to happen.. like hood finding his shot.. as the facts change, i will, accordingly, change my view.. i learned the fine art trend-following from mr market.. as the trend changes, i will jump on-board.. i don’t mind missing the bottom and paying a premium..
if this win was against toronto, it would have been a tad more impressive.. but honor is due (can you name the film that phrase comes from? it’s a good one)

That is how we have to do it, collectively.
We have a lot of 12-18 ppg types but not a 25 ppg type (save perhaps Love, who was out a month): Hill, Hood, Cedi, Sexton, & Clarkson. TT, Nance, Korver, & Dekker can get you 6-10.

anybody think Larry Drew gets a 2 year contract after tonight? this exact same thing happened last year when he coached for Lue. He played Nance and Cedi a lot and we had flow for the first time all year.

Collins is for sure a legit NBA player….could easily be starting big on a playoff/contending team one day.
