2018 Finals Live Thread: Cavs @ Warriors, Game 1

The Cavs arrived at Oracle Arena with the black duds intact, though with a few… alterations. LeBron donned the suit shorts, as did Jordan Clarkson, while most of the guys went long on the pants. On other great news, Kevin Love has passed the concussion protocol, which means he’ll be playing tonight. And if Ty Lue’s words from earlier this week are any indication, it means he’ll be starting. My best starting lineup? Kev, Jeff, LeBron, Kyle, and George. I know we won’t get that, but hopefully the Cavs can put Kev at the 5 and abuse the likes of Kevon Looney.
If you’re like me, you really want this one, because you’re tired of everyone crapping on your favorite team all week. Whether it be memes, pundits, players, or just that lady with the cubicle who read that horribly timed Rachel Nichols interview, you’re sick of the hype, and you just want the Cavs to come out and punch this team in the mouth. Hopefully, that’s the feeling that LeBron’s teammates have after hearing about how useless they are all week. Hopefully the defensive connectivity from the Boston series returns, and Cleveland can play on a string against the Golden State.
There’s been plenty of hype and opinions on this, so I’m not going to waste time on more. I just want to enjoy the ride and watch these guys play at their best and put the Warriors on their butts. Oh, and #FreeCedi. Go Cavs.

I would love to see one other example of a charge/ block being overturned when the defender is outside restricted area. I don’t believe it’s ever happened.

I don’t want to go to bed because I know I will just lay there thinking about that Hill missed free throw/JR rebound. I just can’t believe he didn’t know what the score of the game was. How could he not know? The score of the game … finals … 4 seconds left … Game 1 …he didn’t know. I am shell shocked.

The refs completely lost control at the end too. How about letting Draymond mock the Cavs and dancing while LeBron was taking free throws? Then letting him run amuck with his hands in the air after TT got tossed.

He didn’t know the score. Nor did Lue. Hill miss is tough, but misses happen. JR didn’t know the score of Game 1 of the NBA Finals with 4.7 seconds left. Coach didn’t call for timeout. He didn’t know the score. I just…he didn’t know the score!!!!!!
Lue might have tried to call one — refs never would have heard or seen him. He was at the other end of the floor.
Ty Lue cannot allow Draymond Green to punk the Cavs. I feel that eye-gouging he did on Lebron was on purpose since he will only get a fouls while doing lot of damage on the Cavs’ main man.

think Draymond gets fined for his taunting and possibly a tech which adds to his list….that JR thing was just so bizarre, at very least just shoot it, he was right there, the overturned charge call was ridiculous, no way that happens to any other franchise, Silver needs to step in and make sure the Finals doesn’t get any worse officiating wise or this will hurt the league, can’t have it this one sided, wasn’t necessary. Anyways, Cavs have to regroup and tie this thing up, hoping to see guys step up, especially JR, he owes us one or more
Stuff like that overturned charge call makes me not want to watch, similar to how CFB refs make me not want to watch that game. NBA has big money at stake, and this is a horrible look for them. No way in hell should that call be overturned.

Jr got the rebound and Lue could have called timeout. I don’t think jr should have thrown up a prayer shot. He should have called timeout , but really that’s lues job.
Meh. Happy the Cavs made it. Put up a hell of a fight, should have come away with it but for some real boneheaded plays. Not going to beat up on them. Lebron’s amazing. Hope Cedi is t our best player next year.
Chauncey calling out refs saying they had a bad night
Refs get the game ball. Ultimately it wasn’t JR’s boneheaded play that cost us the game.
I’m not as mad at the J.R. play because Hill should’ve made the free throw. But nothing makes me angrier than Draymond esp when the frauds win with the help of the refs.
Seriously, LeBron 2.0’s weakest team against the “greatest team of all time” and the refs have to help the Warriors our to get a W. Ridiculous.
Yep. The NBA is pathetic. The league office are clowns. Unbelievable that a fraud team like Golden State gets blatant assistance from the officials to win Game 1 of the NBA Finals as massive favorites. It absolutely blows my mind.

I’ve never seen a more blatantly one-sided officiated game in history. The officials stole this from Cleveland and gave it to Golden State.
With that said, Love’s late foul on Curry + Hill choke at the FT line with a chance to win + JR biggest bone head play in history when he had an easy layup for the win = I’m sick.
Golden State are a bunch of front running pretenders.

I agree. Had they pulled this win out and at least get a split you feel good about your chances of winning both at home. Now you have to worry that the OT and mental toll this game will take could cause a major letdown in game 2 and you go home in a 0-2 hole. If I’m Ty Lue I take a fine and criticize the officials and if I’m Lebron I skip postgame and head to the hotel.
So I went from just being genuinely elated Cavs made it this far and just being grateful, to wow we can win, to completely flabbergasted by JR, to so so angry.

That game was a disgrace on so many levels. First the officiating. I have been watching basketball for 25 years. I have never seen a foul overturned at such a critical juncture. Not to mention at least 3 of the 5 fouls on George Hill and all the goodies the officials gifted Golden State. Second JR Smith. I mean you don’t know the score? Come on man. I just can’t process it. At least give the gd ball to Lebron. No game has left me with such a sour taste. Terrible.

If that charge stands the game is won by the Cavs. I can’t remember a time where a call like that got overturned late in a game. To compound the misery JR with the biggest bonehead play I’ve seen outside of CWebb calling a timeout they didn’t have. Literally makes me sick that they lost this game.
Worse than cwebb. He Didn’t know the score. That is literally the easiest thing to keep track of. It’s on a huge SCOREBOARD in lights.
Brothers is also the ref who wanted a block called on the Durant play…He actually called a block on the play and was shown up by the ref who called the charge and then forced the reversal to the block call…
Maybe the flagrant on Thompson will be rescinded tomorrow. But he’ll get a T for shoving the ball in Draymond’s face.
