2018 Finals Live Thread: Cavs @ Warriors, Game 1
2018-05-31The Cavs arrived at Oracle Arena with the black duds intact, though with a few… alterations. LeBron donned the suit shorts, as did Jordan Clarkson, while most of the guys went long on the pants. On other great news, Kevin Love has passed the concussion protocol, which means he’ll be playing tonight. And if Ty Lue’s words from earlier this week are any indication, it means he’ll be starting. My best starting lineup? Kev, Jeff, LeBron, Kyle, and George. I know we won’t get that, but hopefully the Cavs can put Kev at the 5 and abuse the likes of Kevon Looney.
If you’re like me, you really want this one, because you’re tired of everyone crapping on your favorite team all week. Whether it be memes, pundits, players, or just that lady with the cubicle who read that horribly timed Rachel Nichols interview, you’re sick of the hype, and you just want the Cavs to come out and punch this team in the mouth. Hopefully, that’s the feeling that LeBron’s teammates have after hearing about how useless they are all week. Hopefully the defensive connectivity from the Boston series returns, and Cleveland can play on a string against the Golden State.
There’s been plenty of hype and opinions on this, so I’m not going to waste time on more. I just want to enjoy the ride and watch these guys play at their best and put the Warriors on their butts. Oh, and #FreeCedi. Go Cavs.

3:54AM in Ohio; still awake
Well the recap and instacap are up, so…
JR played solid defense, he hustled, hit a couple buckets and made some savvy passes/assists to Love. Hill should have hit his free throws and the refs should have done their jobs… this is gonna be a series. Don’t let ESPN spin their shit “melt down” narrative.
Somebody has to make Draymond Green bleed. How the Cavs always allowed opponents to injure Bron And Love without retribution is beyond me. What can Perkins do if he is in suits? Get those G-leaguers in suits and dust off Perk for a teeth smashing, bone crunching picks and hard fouls on donkey. Then let Dan Gilbert pay the fine.
What would happen if–while still in his suit–Perk rushed the court and beat the crap out of Green?
My eyes have been swelling up, we were so close to win this game. I want us to win this series and shut up these arrogant rascals.
So…2015…warriors were new, not yet champions, get shellshocked in the first 3 games (stole game 1 in overtime like tonight), didn’t poke the bear, and won in 6. 2016…warriors poke the bear by jawing in pressers about lebron being a boy and such…lose in 7. 2017…warriors were all business, didn’t poke the bear, had a couple bounces go their way to keep the series short, win in 5. 2018: Steph curry says to Lebron you guys have no chance after getting a late layup of his stuffed. Refs screw up multiple calls (and YES it was a 50/50 call between… Read more »
Did Curry really say that? What a dillweed.
Kerr was honest enough to say they were lucky last night.

I hope lebron stews in anger. He’s like darth vader when he channels his anger.
Funny to me how the nba has decided to give one guy and only one guy so much leeway for technicals and taunting. Not LBJ. Not Curry. Not Durant. Not Harden.
Draymond. They decided Draymond fu$&ing Green is the one who should be able to get away with anything. Unbelievable.
It’s funny, Sheed would get techs and ejected all the time. I feel like his behavior is much worse than ReSheeds at this point.
It is on a whole other level and that doesn’t even include the nut kicks.
Does this loss have a name yet? It’s name-worthy. But there are so many elements it may defy a simple “The Shot,” “The Drive” kind of name. I don’t want to pin it all on JR.
If the Cavs hadn’t won in 2016, this would be…even more terrible than it is.
we’re done naming losses in cleveland. that’s the gift of 2016.
MAUER OUTAGE
LeBron storming off is telling but it’s sort of undercut by his short suit
Ha!
Draymond is so insufferable in this presser. Perk needs to be sent out there to goon it up with him. Hands down, just punch him and get suspended.
Sorry Cavs fans. Unbiased basketball fan here. My view: 1) LBJ just keeps amazing us all 2) The officiating was not good and went against you 3) The Durant/LBJ play should have been overturned – I thought it was a clear block – LBJ was moving into Durant, but it was the other calls that hurt you 4) Draymond is unbearable – why does he get to scream at refs when he clearly fouls. The refs should be T-ing him up more. 5) You still have a good chance. You see how LBJ cannot be guarded, especially without Iguodala, who… Read more »
a blocking foul was the correct call, its just the way they reviewed it when he was clearly outside of the restricted area.
Not a “clear” block. It was bang/bang, and LeBron was in legal guarding position and Durant initated the contact. It was a 50/50 call at worst, and absolutely no excuse for overturning the call on the floor.
+1
“Clear block” that every other expert has a different opinion on. Not a clear block, certainly not enough to overturn the call on the floor.
I’m still in shock. I want to burn down everything, the Warriors smug smiles, the refs, and the Cavs for losing even though they could’ve overcome everything.
I’m disgusted by the waste of tonight.
Great comment – I feel the same way
Waste of a legendary performance by LeBron.
That was heart breaking. I don’t know if I have the stomach to watch game 2 after that one.
Heartbroken. Terrible refs, terrible commentators, wide open missed 3’s and barely a passing mention to Lebron with one eye scoring 51 in Oracle with a chance to win.
well, at least the gloves are off.. this is going to be, and should be trench warfare going forward.. if the cavs remain disciplined, keep things slowed down, and don’t let the hun do an end run, and start shooting 3s off fast breaks, and resist trading 3s with the hun.. then perhaps.. they are at a crossroads psychologically.. either give up in game 2 or become a true street fighting band.. this is not going to be easy, but may be doable..
the cavs were always playing with the house’s $$ anyway.. i feel badly, howver, for LBJ, be he is the epitome of ronin.. pure discipline.. he may score 60+ in game 2
typically, in professional settings, where things matter.. checklists are used.. in other sports, like baseball, outfielders broadcast the number of outs routinely, after registering an out.. so everyone is on the same page.. obviously, there is a systemic problem with the organization.. you can’t leave things to chance.. what a waste.. what a heroic performance.. it is sickening.. i try to be buddhist.. non-attachment works, but is very difficult.. this is tragedy worthy of shakespeare
Well said.
Lebron is amazing, that’s all I want to remember

If I’m Lue, I’m sending JR to a local middle school so he can learn numbers and simple additions.
Lue could have been at half court and in position to call a timeout. It’s frankly amazing that jr got an offensive reboot off of a missed free throw. Had he put up a layup, the warriors call a timeout and hit a 3 and win. Or he missed the layup and we go to overtime (or the warriors win in regulation). Lue needed to call timeout and call a play
I haven’t felt this screwed over by referees since Bottlegate.
Anyone else jonesing for a cupcake right now?
Or something stronger
If I’m Coach Lue, I’m dressing Perkins next game. Not like Zizic is going to play anyways.
“I thought we were up.” Maybe this has happened with JR more than we know. Maybe all the horrible shots he’s taken this playoff run were shots he took when he thought we were up 18 or something. I just don’t understand…he didn’t know that score.
3 hours ago, I thought I’d never be angry during these finals since there were no expectations and was just grateful/amazed Cavs got here. I’ve never been more upset at a loss.

Ha that’s funny.
Dray’s a punk.
