Waivers and Waiters Abound
2012-10-10The Cavaliers waived Kevin Anderson and Justin Holiday today, in a less-than-shocking personnel move. There are now three spots left. Samardo Samuels seems to have all but locked up one of the spots, so we’ll see how the other two fall out. Here\’s the link.
Another game recap from last night’s debacle againsst Milwaukee, this time from the Plain Dealer. Byron Scott on benching Dion Waiters: “I took him out in the second half because I drew up a play, guard ran the play, he messed it up. To me that was a lack of focus so I figured he didn’t need to play the rest of the game.” Classic. Here’s the link.
Tristan Thompson has a better skill set than Ryan Hollins, a hell of a lot younger, and much more athletic. I’m all for the heated basketball talk, but let’s avoid absurdity.
Ha. So that is not too shabby in the Euroleague? Tell me Derek, have you ever seen the level of competition in the Euroleague? They aren’t Olympic level teams, and we all know how much of a “beast”(bust) he was then…. As for you using reference to Hollinger as your “say all end all” for advanced stats and ratings, maybe you overlooked that he ranked Waiters as the “Best” perimeter player in the draft…. Better than MKG, Beal, Barnes…. Rated him as the top, #1, numero uno, A1 guy. So if that is your big secret to your intellect on… Read more »
Dani, I compared the two because Nate made the comparison first.
Warren, Don’t you follow John Hollinger or anybody like that? Not like I’d expect you to understand advanced stats, but 10 ppg on 63% shooting in the Euroleague is not too shabby. He also averaged over 7 rebounds and 1 and a half blocks per game. I haven’t been saying he’s a beast now, but that he is going to be a beast. Compare that to Tristan Thompson who is basically a shorter, more defensive version of Ryan Hollins.
JV? Really? You have to be a Raptors fan or actually from Lithuania to root for this guy and think he is going to have a career in the NBA. Averaging 10ppg against the amazing players like Paulius Jankunas from Zalgiris, or Pavel Pumprla from Cez Nymburk.?.?.? I mean tell me with all honesty that he is going to post up against Howard, Bynum, or even BJ Mullins for that.
Took TT over JV.
And the Sessions trade was all about tanking the season so we could get a higher draft pick and not be stuck as a middle of the road team.
And they are going to keep Walton because he keeps us above the basement floor financially, while not making us any better.
They are going to tank atleast one more year before really trying to make a playoff push.
Haha. I knew I spelled it wrong, but couldn’t resist the Chievous reference. I am impressed that you called me out on that. Good find.
JV is still turrible though.
Stop trolling each other, it’s quite boring. But a quick note to Derek: why compare valanciunas against Zeller? We didn’t take zeller over the Lithuanian.
Ha! Nice try with the joke, but his name is spelled Derrick Chievous. I’ll admit that’s obscure, but you couldn’t even google his name to see if you spelled it right.
I meant Luke Harangody…and man, I used to love Derrick Chevious! With the band-aid? He was one of my fav college players and I was thrilled when the Cavs hot him but except for a game here and there, he was pretty unremarkable…
Is this Derek Chevious? Seeking vengeance on Cleveland?
Warren, you type things and I can see you’re typing in English, but none of it makes any sense. You should be paying attention in your high school classes instead of focusing on what some guy is saying in a comment section. The Cavs got hosed in that trade. That’s all I was getting at son. Hot Sauce, I get it. You don’t have to keep repeating the same quote just to make yourself sleep better at night abot your GM making a terrible choice. Valanciunas had a bad game. You don’t have to keep repeating it. The guy is… Read more »
Was a little bummed to see Holiday get cut so early, but it was obviously a numbers game. Hopefully the Cavs keep him in their D-League rotation. I thought he had a few nice moments the other night. Agree with you Ross. Hope Azibuike has another good couple of games. I thought he looked passable in Canton the other night. As for JV, I’ve said it before and I’ll say it again. Zeller and Big V are remarkably similar players, for better or worse. And I’d like to remind everyone that no one has played more than two pre-season games.… Read more »
I would add that Walton was part of the Sessions trade. Is there anyone in their right mind who still thinks we should have kept Sessions and let him leave for nothing?
FANS of JV: Great tweet from Amico last night “Asked scout at Raptors-Pistons game to describe Jonas Valanciunas’ debut in a word. He bounced between “soft” and “scared.”” As someone who has been predicting he would flop in the NBA, I love it. 13 minutes, 0 RBS, 2 pts. (yes, yes, I know its only 1 game, I just can’t resist).
Derek…. I would say for you to only comment when you know something about what you are trying to discuss, but that would ban you from ever commenting again.
The Cavs never traded “for” Walton…. They traded for a 1st round pick. Walton was thrown in as cost that the Cavs could cover….. That is all.
Now hurry, get back to your Dime Magazine or DDL to find out if that is the truth or not……
Good point Derek – The Cavs should have kept Sessions and let him leave via free agency with t nothing in return.
Kj, the Cavs never should have traded for Walton in the first place, but you’re right.
Ross, you’re delusional.
I’m rooting for Kelena Azubuike to make his return with the Cavs. He has always been consistent, hardworking and great in the locker room, but when you combine that with good athleticism and a solid skill set you may have something nicer than your average role player.
I think Luke and Jones might be your next cuts…
