Links to the Kyrie-Inundated, (Hannukah) Present
2012-12-12He’s back! Finally! Let’s go Cavs! Well, here’s some fun Cavs-related stuff to read about as you go about your daily life.
– Kyrie Irving wasn’t the only star young’n to return last night, as Anthony Davis came back as well. I mostly posted this because I was thinking about something: would you trade Kyrie for Davis? In my opinion: too close to call. If it was a pure business decision, I think Grant would have to pull the trigger. (If you want to fight with me, and I hope you do, tweet me up @DanSoch)
– The best play of last night, in my opinion was– never mind, I’m just going to give you the link. Unreal.
-In case you wanted to get a little more emotionally invested in Byron Scott, here’s a cute story about his experience as a rookie on the Lakers, back in the day.
So far tonight Irving and Davis both looks like trash :P
Ah, the 2 links did it.
I will be careful to not make my comments as appetizing in the future :)
Also, I just tuned in for the second half. I’m at a loss for words.
I do agree with Nate’s comment that Kyrie is ours now. Love him as a player and he was much more engaged on defense last night than I’ve seen him. Kyrie may never be the distributor that Paul or Rondo are, but neither of them are as refined as a scorer as Kyrie. He really doesn’t have an offensive weakness. The primary credence I give to the return being possible, is that Irving will be a much better player than Wade in two years and you can actually make a debate about it already.
Check out Nathan’s comment about halfway up. It’s very good, and was swallowed by the comment monster whom I Heimliched. Sorry Nathan (no relation).
Well, I was really only thinking of this in a “what if for some reason we didnt love Kyrie Irving as a person and teammate anore but everyone else in the league did.” Obviously I wouldn’t trade him, just because he’s Kyrie.
Davis will be light years better than Blake/Deandre and he’s already a better defender/ball handler/passer/shooter now. Blake can dunk pretty. That’s about it. Griffin is marketable, but he’s not a superstar.
What’s this “your comment is awaiting moderation” thing? Is it showing up to you guys? It’s 5 comments back now (12:53 PM)
http://hoopshype.com/dleague_callups.htm What about CDR? I’ve always loved his game/hated his off the court crap, but he still has upside, IMO.
Clevelandboy, you forgot that gaping whole on defense. Or by complete, did you mean completely offensive. Like he likes offense so much he wants to watch the other team score? Seriously though, I only caught the last few minutes of the game last night, I hope his effort really is on the uptick in that department. I wouldn’t trade Kyrie for Davis right now because Kyrie is more proven. Maybe after the season?? sure. I think Davis has a higher ceiling than Kyrie though, simply because I don’t think PG’s are as important as big men, and they both look… Read more »
I would not trade Kyrie for Davis simply because he’s ours now. If you’re not rooting for people. you’re rooting for laundry. The linear nature of our existence matters.
I would not trade kyrie for Davis.
Kyrie is one of the most complete guards in the NBA right now. Davis will be a damn good player but I don’t think he’ll ever be able to carry a team. They’re going to have to put scorers with Davis in NO for that team to succeed.
Tough call on Davis for Irving straight up, but I would stick with Irving. Point guards are more common, but I think Kyrie has as much raw talent as any point guard in the league. They both appear to be game changers and at this point you can’t really go wrong with either, but I’ll take other-worldly talent over other-worldly athleticism any day.
“could potentially be the greatest scoring PG since Pistol Pete” is selling him short. He could be the greatest pure scorer of all time, period. He had the highest scoring rate of any player 19 or younger last year (http://bkref.com/tiny/6RI4l), and in spite of a mediocre start to this season by his lofty standards, he ranks 2nd all time in scoring rate among players aged 20 or younger (behind only little-known Cliff Robinson) (http://bkref.com/tiny/I8quG). To compare directly, Pistol Pete didn’t match Kyrie’s current scoring rate until his third season at age 25. To re-emphasize that point, Kyrie Irving (age 20)… Read more »
True – I did get that from you, Nate. Best description I’ve seen.
PG is a much deeper position than C. I’d go with Davis because of that. Kyrie is amazing and I do think he’ll be a top five PG, but he’s easier to replace.. You might not get one as good as Kyrie, but you could find a decent PG fairly easy.
I don’t know. If he ends up anything like Blake Griffin/DeAndre Jordan, Davis will be pretty fun to watch. And you totally stole the Pistol Pete thing from me, Tom.
As for the play of the night, I have to go with the steal/backhanded diving pass to Andy to Kyrie to Gee Alley Oop in the 2nd quarter. There were a LOT of good plays last night… At least 4 year end highlights.
Yeah, I was thinking about that, Cols. Kyrie’s a helluva lot more fun to watch than Anthony Davis, that’s for sure.
Tough question.
In general there are less great big men than great guards so that would say yep trade for Davis. However, Kyrie is such a great effecient scorer that he is definitely the better player.
It’s such a tough question. How about keep Kyrie because it’s more fun to watch a great guard than a great big man (as long as that big man isn’t named Shaq).
The only thing that keeps me from saying I’d do it – is that I think Kyrie Irving could potentially be the greatest scoring PG since Pistol Pete.
But it’s close, right? By no means an obvious choice, especially with the overload of PG depth these days.
if I could assume both would miss the same number of games due to injury, I’d stick with Kyrie at this point.
