2010-02-27-Brian Windhorst says that Antawn Jamison is learning the defensive system. Now that’s happy news.
-From Mr. Windhorst’s twitter account, the Cavs are bringing in a hand specialist to take a look at Shaq’s thumb tomorrow.
-Phil Jackson is not a fan of the notion that Z could return to Cleveland.
-Michael Jordan has purchased the Bobcats. I am afraid of that team.
-Finally, The Lost Ogle, which is the strangely enthralling Oklahoma City version of Gawker, took my request for the 1990s video of the week. I am far more proud of this than I probably should be.
That’s about all I have for tonight. Hey, it’s the weekend. Have a good one, campers.
The surgery might be season ending but i think Shaq will be able to come back for the plaoffs. good thing is the remaining games we have at least in march, most dont require a true center the magnitude of Shaq. we play orlando in April one of the last games and we might not need that game depending on how we do for the rest of the season. I just hope he is able to come back for the playoffs though because thats why we got him. As for trading rule, i honestly dont have a problem with it… Read more »
So, wtf are we gonna do if Shaq has to have season ending surgery? I mean isthat basically it for our chances? Sigh…..i’m losing hope already.
This rule is completely asinine. It’s great that the Cavs benefited from it, and as long as it’s in place, teams shouldn’t be faulted for using it. Nonetheless, it needs to be changed.
I don’t know … to me this happens so rarely that it hardly seems worth changing a bunch of rules (let alone people whining about it). Basically, it’s the “I’m an Exiled, Overpaid Role Player and I Just Wanna Go Home” loophole. Each side in the trade gets what they want. Personally, from the standpoint of competitive equity, I think the more ridiculous thing is that a team can get an all-star caliber player for the expiring contract of any guy with a pulse in the first place (I’m looking at you, Kwame Brown!). Heck, even retired players can be… Read more »
If the Cavs are smart and Z is willing, they should just sign him to 1 year deal next year so he is an expiring contract again. PIstons did it with McDyss two times if I recall.
I will go out on a limb here and say the rule needs to be changed. It’s clearly an end run around the salary cap. If the Lakers had somehow had a buyout-expiring contract deal with Derek Fisher for a scoring point guard, (random, unrealistic example off the top of my head) that made them as “better” as Jamison is supposed to make the Cavs, it would piss me and you all off too. Bottom line, I am not mad at the Cavs for doing it, and it’s not like the Cavs are somehow unique in exploiting this stupid rule.… Read more »
Haha, I agree Judy. This specific situation (player gets traded, gets released, re-signs with old team) happens at least once a year it seems, and more broadly I’d say just about every trade in the NBA involves some form of money considerations. And again, it’s Z we’re talking about here … it’s not like we did this with LeBron.
Am trying to undestand why it bothers people(mostly people other than Wizards and their fans) that Z could come back to the Cavs. I mean the only explanation i could think of is that they trully believe the Cavs become completely unbeatable with Z in the lineup. Now that would be something.First, no one still thinks Lebron has a good supporting cast, but suddenly Z coming back to Cleveland is such an abomination to the league. Its just amusing to me.
