Not a Recap: Cavs 104, Jazz 101
2013-03-06Due to a scheduling snafu, you may not be receiving much of a recap here tonight.
The Cavs continued their winning ways though, picking up victory #21. Trailing by thirteen late in the third, Cleveland’s offense blistered Utah for 36 fourth quarter points. Miles tossed in all 12 of his during the final stanza, while Kyrie tallied 11 points and an assist in the last four minutes. What did you expect though?
Other highlights included Kyrie piling up 10 assists, his third double-digit effort of the season. Tristan pitched in 16 points on 55% true shooting, with 12 rebounds and 3 blocks, in one of his stronger offensive efforts in several weeks. He looked particularly polished in the first quarter, with 7 points scored through various means, and also a quick-thinking dime to Gee. Livingston and Walton added a few sweet-passing highlights, Speights pitched in 14 & 7, and Tyler, well, he didn’t do much; three points and four rebounds in 23 minutes.
Anyways, Go Cavs! And fill in the blanks, commenters! None of us was working on anything substantive.
@Cody – Totally agree with you about that group huddle after the Millsap blocking foul. I re-watched it and you can clearly see that it was TT who was pulling it together and cajoling the guys. That’s the thing that’s impressing me just as much if not more than the improvement in his game. TT is smart and enthusiastic and becoming one of the leaders of this team.
26 games in an 82 game season is about equivalent to last year’s 21 in 66. Should be able to win more than 26. Go Cavs!
Also, Zeller, while he didn’t shoot or rebound well, had some stellar defensive moments. 3 Blocks, 2 steals, and a charge drawn… He seemed feistier last night.
That steal that Kyrie had on Hayward was nice. That is a really tough steal to make from that angle without fouling and he did it. How about Ellington filling the lane on the break? Waiters and Gee should take a cue from that play on how to fill the lane in transition. Fun stuff last night.
Bill wins. Maybe he should write for CtB
Yes, he’s joking. He’s taking a shot at some of the bloggers mentality that we should do whatever it takes, including trading all assets, in order to win right now.
@ Bill – Kanter seems like a nice player but I sure hope that trade suggestion is in jest. It is so over the top that I definitely think you are joking, but this is the internet so it can be tough to tell sometimes.
About the game, I thought Kyrie came out looking to setup his teammates and I LOVED the defensive intensity they played with in the last few minutes, CJ Miles excluded.
Really thought Kyrie played good D towards the end of the game. He looked like he really wanted to make a stop. That was encouraging because he normally looks like he could care less. Hopefully he will keep improving in that area because I can’t think of a reason why he shouldnt be better on D. Great comeback win. Really enjoy watching this team play. If we had this team from the beginning of the season it would have been a fun year watching us compete for a playoff position.
@ChiCavsFan – well said. I think most of us like Mo and want to see him do well. It’s not very often you see the Cavs bench getting outplayed, but that was the case last night. Kanter was 8-11. I think it’s another example that the Cavs aren’t prepared to deal with size right now. TT played well. It seemed like he was trying to assert himself, and pick up the slack for Waiters being out. He went toe-to-toe with Paul Millsap and basically played to a stalemate (maybe a slight edge). That’s a very good sign. Was it just… Read more »
Big win for the Cavs to help the Lakers make the playoffs
Enes Kanter had a nice game for the Jazz- 17 pts/ 7 rbs in 21 minutes. Perhaps we could trade for him? Maybe Zeller, TT, our two first rounders this year, our 2015 pick, the Memphis pick, and the Kings pick? Throw in Dion on the trade if they’ll ship us Mo? I know Mallory and Nate are in. Who else is down?
While the game against the Knicks was a tough one to lose, this seemed like an easy one to lose given how the Cavs started the third quarter. Really good to see them fight back and not just fold up the tents in the fourth. Also really good to see Kyrie get back to dominating the fourth quarter. Great game for TT and CJ3 too. Big milestone too with the 21st win equalling all of last year with 21 games remaining. Go Cavs!
It’s very nice seeing TT have a great game against a team with one of the best big men rotations in the league
Cavs had to want it more! We want that 16th pick, not the 28th! Seriously though, Kyries D was still fairly bad tonight, which is why Mo had such an easy attempt at a game winner. Loved his assists and rebounds though. That spin move he had in the fourth for the floater was nasty, Thought it was Braxton Miller out there. Glad to see the refs not call that a travel… Speights I thought played pretty well out there tonight, he was just nasty going and grabbing his own misses and refusing to waste the possession. Good game to… Read more »
I loved the fire that I saw from the whole team the last 2 minutes. The offense was pushing the ball to get better opportunities rather than settling for iso’s, Kyrie played with some defensive intensity, and not giving up on plays. The most telling play of the game was the rebound that Tristan tipped to keep it alive, Ellington di the same, then Wayne beat Heyward to the ball and secured the possession and it lead to the go ahead basket. Those 50/50 balls (realistically this might have been a 35/65 ball in favor of Utah) decide a close game… Read more »
Oh Mo! That missed lay up was like much of his career with the Cavs. So close to being great but not quite enough. I still respect Mo though and appreciate what he did for the team. I hope fans at the Q show some class when Mo returns because he deserves to be acknowledged for his contributions.
its fun now we have 2 feams to root for
Kobe is refusing not to go to the playoffs… a SA LAL series will be really intriguing if LA can continue to improve
i miss waiters but it was good to see kyrie play with fire tonight he even dove on the floor his defense wasnt half bad
Lakers win, Jazz, Rockets lose. I wish you was working on substantive stuff.
Could be an important win for our hopes of seeing the Lakers make the playoffs this year
Wow the only thing more improbable than the Cavs win was the LAKERS came back!
