Oh No-be Kobe!
2013-04-12In what is probably the worst possible Cavs news left in the remaining days of this season, Kobe Bryant appears to be done for the year with what is likely a torn achilles tendon. For those not keeping score at home, the Lakers remain one game up on Utah with only a few contests left.
As much as it pains me to say this – pray for Kobe.
Why would it pain you to want us to pray for Kobe? Whether or not Cavs fans have incentive for the Lakers to make the playoffs, having a healthy Kobe is good for the NBA and good for fans because he’s such an awesome talent and competitor. The NBA is a better place with Kobe Bryant in it.
I moved out to san Diego, and I get to watch the lakes games and am watching currently versus san Antonio, and keep hoping love is gonna pull a Willis reed, thinking this is a sick joke. Cleveland needs this pick
I’m with you Tom. No doubt my respect and apreciation for Kobe has went WAY up since focusing on Laker games lately. I used to be with you, where I sort of despised him, but it was because his fans propped him up beyond what he was. He hasn’t been better than LeBron since the season he averaged 35 a game, but yet so many would say he was the best in the league. But that wasn’t his fault. However, since I’ve started watching him a lot lately, I can say he’s still safely in the top 5 players in… Read more »
Yeah its weird. I used to just loathe Kobe. For so many reasons. Some he caused others were just how overrated he was in the minds of fans and the media. But he really put together a nice season and you gotta admire how dedicated he is to his craft. I have no doubt he’ll be back. I wonder if it will be with the Lakers.
Having the Lakers 16th pick would be great to have for trading purposes. We could move up 5-7 spots or so and trade that pick with some of our 2nd rounders. (We have ours and Orlando’s both in the low 30s). If we get stuck with the Heats pick, we could still likely trade into the 15-20th spots with a similar trade. Either way, we won’t be drafting 4 players. We will trade picks.
Then again no one wants 4 rookies one your team in thr same year …. especially when 7 of your top 9 players would are in thrir 2nd year or less with Kyrie only in year 3. You could possible package th 16, 32, 34 for possibly a top ten pick.
Looking at it … With the 16 pick I see possible picks as GR3, Kelly Olynyk, Dario Saric … At the end of the 1st is probably Reggie Bullock. Obviously, picking 16 is better than 30 range but to be totally honest I wouldn’t be that disappointed either way. Bullock will probably be a very good role player for a decade, I’ll take it.
It’s pretty amazing that Kobe was able to make two free throws after rupturing the Achilles. That tells me all I need to know about whether or not he will return from this injury. He will be back, no doubt about it. I have never been a huge fan of his over the years, but I admire his toughness and love for the game. Also, he’s less than 1600 points away from Michael Jordan on the all time scoring list. He’ll be back.
It looks bleak, but all is not lost, even if the Lakers lose their next game and Utah wins. There are two scenarios to watch: 1) Memphis and Denver are currently tied for the 3rd seed in the west. 4th will automatically go the the Clippers since they won their division. If they remain tied on the final day of the season, both teams will be playing to win, trying to land 3rd seed. Memphis is home against Utah. 2) If Houston has a one game lead over Golden State on the final day, they will automatically lock up the… Read more »
Despite being a long time Laker hater, I’d have to say it’s very sad to see Kobe go down with what is likely a career ending injury. It’s upsetting to see on of the great competitors of my generation go out like that.
Uh … yeah, welcome to Cavs fandom!
So the Cavs would have two picks in the top 16 of this years draft if the lakers make it in?
Kobe out is bad news for Cavs because if the Lakers make the playoffs then the Cavs can swap the Miami first round pick (last in the round) for the Lakers (mid first round). If the Lakers miss the playoffs their first round lottery pick will go to the Suns. Basically means the Cavs move up about a dozen spots if the Lakers make the playoffs.
Why is Kobe being out badnews for the Cavs?
No point in praying for Kobe. I’m praying for the rest of the team.
I tore my achilles two months ago. Reading his recant of it was total deja vu. (“I made a move I’ve made a thousand times….I turned around and asked who kicked me….when it turned out no one did, I knew exactly what I had done….”)
One Laker win (two games at home) and one Utah loss (two games on road) is all we need. Fingers crossed.
