Notes and Errata: April 22nd, 2010
2010-04-22-Question of the day: Why is it that the Cavs play the opening to Madonna’s “Lucky Star” after Anthony Parker hits a three? Is it because Parker considers himself a “lucky star” after parlaying a superstar career in Israel into a solid NBA career and now a starting spot on a legit title contender? Is it that he’s the lone pro basketball player whose sister is better known than he is and supports her through Madonna’s message of female empowerment?
Is it that his time in Israel makes him appreciative of Madonna’s conversion to Kabbalah? Is it that he considers himself an outsider, like Madonna did? Parker was the lone Cavs starter who didn’t “Z”-ify his name on Z night, and he never seems to do the gooseneck or any of the other goofy things the Cavs do. Or maybe it was that the Cavs sound crew thought the sound effect from “Lucky Star” was cool and they wanted to use it after made threes by AP. In any case, I’m curious.
-Boston are legit contenders. When Rondo’s on his game, they can play with anybody. They won’t be a cake-walk in the second round if the Cavs and Celtics end up playing each other.
-I can’t recall a team as helpless offensively as the Bobcats have been against the Magic. That team wins with defense. Do not forget this.
-I just realized the following: LOST isn’t my favorite TV show of all time. (That honor would go to Firefly/The Wire.) But it is my favorite show that I’ve ever followed in real-time. If the Cavs make a long playoff run, their most crucial games will coincide with the series finale of LOST. At this point, I’ve lost enough of my mind so that this doesn’t feel like a coincidence.
-This Laker team finds ways to win. It’s what they do. When Kobe splits a pair of key free throws, Artest comes up with the stop that saves the game. If Artest had gotten lost on the screen, I’m sure Kobe would’ve hit the game-winner. I don’t know what it is about that team, but they’re never out of a game.
-Sadly, that’s all I have for tonight. This first round is running me ragged. Game three tomorrow. Get excited.
“if one other player had stepped up that series who knows”
Story of Cavs playoff history with Lebron.
We nearly beat the Celtics two years ago when they were much better and we werent as talented..and that was mainly because of Lebron…if one other player had stepped up that series who knows if we would be the champs or not that year. Boston doesnt scare me like they used too…they are getting too old, besides Big Baby they dont have much on the bench and i think Baby can be corralled. The Spurs are too well coached to not give a good fight in the playoffs..not to mention they are still a talented team with a few guys… Read more »
This playoffs could be one of the best of all time. I think all four top seeds in the west have a chance to get to the finals, and the top 7 seeds in the west have legit chances. It also reminds me that the playoffs and the regular season can sometimes have ZERO correlation. It’s obvious now that Boston and San Antonio were conserving energy for the playoffs (as the Cavs smartly did at season’s end), and that Miami had to play their butts off against bad teams just to get a 5 seed. I was rooting for Boston… Read more »
We are getting a little too cocky if we don’t think Boston will put up a fight in the next round.
Part of me agrees that Miami sucks and Boston should kill them (which I wish I would have figured out before the playoffs started).
At the same time, despite their recent struggles, the Celts are still one of the top defensive teams in the league. They will be tough in the next round.
1. dwayne wade doesn’t look like he used to because he’s a 29 year old player with nagging injuries who took half the season to play himself into shape on a crappy team whose second best player went ricky williams last summer 2. the last game with boston varejao didnt play. as good as lebron is, varejao is the cavs player boston hates most. of all the remaining playoff teams, i think the cavs match up better with boston than anybody. they’re bigger, faster, younger, stronger, and right now? more confident. when you’re the best team in basketball, there are… Read more »
The finale airs on Sunday
Andrew, Lost airs on Tuesday, not Sunday.
1) I disagree Boston is a legit anything. How they are playing against D Wade has no correlation to how they will play against the Cavs. That Heat team is like the Cavs circa 2006; one great player and then a team of misfits and cast offs. Boston is supposed to win that series handily. 2) Rondo will give the Cavs fits; he always does. However, in the last game between the two teams Boston played its best game in months. The Cavs looked like they were waiting for Easter dinner and slugged through three quarters. Then they actually played… Read more »
And the hypocrite of the day award goes to … Tim Povtak!
That guy is a freaking waste of oxygen and bandwith.
@ Andrew – I dunno, I’ve managed to avoid watching and/or hearing any details about any episode of Lost, ever.
Anyone convinced that a prime time TV series finale is going to be anything but a dissapointment is out of their mind.
Wade got less than no help in game 2. I mean Jermaine O’Neal missed I don’t know how many easy open shots. Wade was on the court by himself….the Nets could have beaten that team handily the way they played in game 2.
Rich
The Heat bleiw a 14 point lead in Game 1..and then looked even worse in Game 2…the team doesnt look good at all…and for some reason Wade isnt as impressive as he used to be. Miami may get a win at home, but that Game 1 loss really hurt them….they couldve easily stole one there and made it a series…the Celtics are good but not that good…no one else really stepping up for Heat…
I’ve been thinking the exact same thing about Lost. Hopefully if the Cavs have a game on that Sunday of the Lost finale, though, it will be an afternoon game. Otherwise we’re in trouble, because even if you DVR Lost for later, it’s going to be next to impossible to avoid hearing anything about it.
So after maybe the worst offenive display by a team that I’ve ever seen (the Heat) we are ready to declare Boston legit after one game? Little over the top imo.
