Cavs: The Podcast 0043 – MVP! MVP!
2014-02-17It’s been a WHILE! Like three months a while. And with Kyrie playing in the All Star Game (and winning MVP, which we obviously all knew was coming…) Tom, Nate, and I decided to hop on the line and chat.
On today’s podcast we discuss the ASG, Kyrie’s recent improvements, Dion’s game, Chris Grant’s firing, and expectations for the rest of the season.
As always, we can be found on SoundCloud at: https://soundcloud.com/cavstheblog

LOved the podcast! Thanks! Alot of interesting points on the “Smiles Everyone” Griffin approach. If Cavs get 10 more wins, there will be more GM’s fired . LoL And I have been intriqued about Deng being more hurt than Bulls let on. I think Cavs may have got a bad bill of goods. WE’ll see as time goes on but he doesn’t move well on that side and yeah he is getting burned by opponents taking advantage of that. He’s not the same Deng we watched last year in the playoffs.
And no need to trade for a Hawes or Kaman type. Zeller’s coming on strong.
(Wish we could play Philly every night.)
22 pts and 21 rebounds from the PF position against the Sixers.
On another note, Michael Carter-Williams was off to a fast start. Now the team is tanking. 1 assist, 7 turnovers tonight. Do you see what losing can do to a young rising star. Let’s see where he is a year from now.
Jack has been modifying his game and finding his role. He’s becoming a distributor. Seven assists tonight. All the Cavs have been finding their places over the course of the season. I don’t want to see him go. Who knows, maybe one of our guards will hyperextend a knee or something. Who will step up and help us get to the playoffs? Who are we going to get for him? I have a hard time thinking a $5MM contract as an albatross when the owner says he’ll spend what it takes to win. $13MM contract – possibly. $5MM – no.… Read more »
Wethere isn’t exactly a surplus of superstars that teams would be willing to trade because the team sucks … Players that are in their prime and winning aren’t moving.
And no I’m not worried about his lack of wins just like I’m not worried about Kyries ability because of his lack of wins, or Brons before he won
Highlight of the Podcast: Serbian Sheep Herder. Simply fantastic. Haha.
Does it bother anyone that Love, despite his immense talent, hasn’t been able to get the Timberwolves to the playoffs in six years? I know that he hasn’t been surrounded with much talent, but not even an 8 seed? Maybe he’s more a Chris Bosh type than a D Wade? And do you mortgage the farm for a Chris Bosh?
Some people are talented stat sheet guys. Others are winners.
Just askin’.
Underdog – don’t be fooled by Minny’s record this year. They’ve been super unlucky in close games. They are 9th in Offensive Rating, 9th in Defensive rating, and their SRS is 9th in the NBA. So they figure to be in the top 3rd of the league. Their expected Win/Loss is 33-20. They are in the unfortunate position of being in the West at a time when all the best teams are in the West and every game matters. But yeah, you make a good point – not sure how much heat K Love has gotten for the Wolves inability… Read more »
Just remember, that’s what people said about Kevin Garnett too.
So I turn it to FoxSports1 (so much better than ESPN) and the first thing they talk about is the TWolves trading K Love to Cleveland before the trade deadline.
Just saying, I’ve been saying I’ve wanted this since last season … On this blog even. If it happens and we have a core of Rie, Deng, KLove and whatever else is left of Tristan, Dion, Bennett, Zeller, Andy and draft picks … Dang!
Holy comment monster …
Cleveland Rising,
Apparently this won’t update but you can get ESPN Insider for like $3.
The link won’t post
Cleveland rising,
You can get ESPN Insider for like $3 a year.

Thanks, Tom Pestak I appreciate your kind words…and oh Jon Barry still sucks at his job! BTW ESPN, why is every freaking article on your fluff site for insiders only? Really? You expect me to pay you all $ every month just read some lame articles bashing Cleveland? The only reason I’m on this site now is so I can voice my extreme displeasure in Jon Barry’s stale, lame outdated take about C-town! Espn, you have beaten that to death!
I forgot we couldn’t include Deng with other players. Regardless, I think we should be aggressive in acquiring another star. If that doesn’t materialize, I’m not opposed to a low-ball offer for Asik.
Don’t really care what kind of trades we make all I care about is getting the word out on how bad a basketball “analyst” Jon Barry is. I’m not sure the word analyst should be used to describe him. He never has any good takes and certainly doesn’t have any evidence or proof to back what comes from his mouth! How is possible that Kyrie was VOTED as the all star starter, which by the fans globally and he was one of the highest vote getters! What rock have you been living under? Then to say he has to leave… Read more »
This is so true. Great comment, Cleveland Rising
Cavs getting Love is highly unlikely. But if a deal is made it will have to include Bennett (and multiple 1st rounders).
@Vesus, we can’t trade Deng in combination with any other players
I would be thrilled if we could dump Jack. It would likely take a pick to do that deal with any team other than Brooklyn for any player other than Terry.
Jack is slightly more expensive and on a longer deal, but he will be much more productive than Terry.
Having said that, I’d do this deal even if we can’t find a taker for Terry’s contract. He’d be useful as a 2011-12 Anthony Parker-esque 20 minutes per game.
I’m completely in favor of making a godfather offer for Love. I gladly throw in multiple 1st rounders including our 2014 pick. Maybe a package of picks + TT and Deng’s contract. If it is enough to bring Lebron back, who cares if Love only stays a year?
I meant Jason Terry. (Don’t know where Jett came from.)
I think Jack could be valuable to the Cavs if he changed his game from being a “me-first shooter” – to being a veteran facilitator that can hit the open shot. He’d really have to change his game, but he’d fit in much better and the Cavs can use somebody like that right now. Eventually, somebody’s going to get hurt . . . and Jett and Andre Miller are both done. (Admittedly, I’d feel better about the thought if Jack played better defense.) I just think that Jack – like everybody else on the team – is better than what… Read more »
Jon Barry is really lousy at being a nba reporter/commentator. His comments are usually over the top fluff – with little to nothing to support what his mouth is saying. I do like his brother – Brent – who seems to check his ego a bit more that Jon and actually add some well thought out point to his commentary.
Jason Terry is the name mentioned but also saw may include 3rd team, so could be straight money dump for Cavs and increased time for Delly, Et al..
KJ, what trades for Jack are being discussed?
Cory, “Thompson, Bennett, Jack and a couple first rounders” MIGHT be reasonable if Love agreed to an extension, but otherwise it is insane. What are the chances that Deng and Love both walk? Or, both are majorly injury prone at this age? That would be a disaster. I hesitate to jump the gun on LeBron talk. But if you want to dream big, remember that LeBron likes history and is very into the big picture. That includes the plotline for movies about his career. The only question for him is will he be regarded as the best ever. Everyone will… Read more »
Talk heating up for Jack to be traded to Nets. Good riddance, I say. Addition by subtraction…
Great podcast. Made the drive through grid lock traffic in LA not too shabby. Agree with Mallory that Flip Saunders should see what he can get for Kevin Love this week. A number of teams could make compelling offers for Love. You’d think Chicago could offer them Taj Gibson, Mirotic and the Bobcats first round pick. A Cavs offer would have to top that. Maybe Thompson, Bennett, Jack and a couple first rounders. It’s a hail mary for whomever does the deal with Minnesota. The risk of losing Love in a year is real. Having two superstars on your roster… Read more »
Hehe, looks like my thoughts on Jon Barry have been (appropriately) censored. Oh well, you guys get it.
And if anyone isn’t sure why I made the comment, Barry said THIS today on ESPN Radio (paraphrased):
“This kid Kyrie Irving needs to get out of Cleveland”
Can’t comment on the podcast since I haven’t listened yet.
Just here to say [I disagree with], Jon Barry. Thank you.
