#CavsRank – At 15, it’s Andre Miller (from Kirk at WFNY)
2014-02-26#CavsRank keep marching on, as today Kirk at WFNY profiles Andre Miller, who occupies the #15 spot. In his time in Cleveland, Miller made the All-Rookie first team, and in his third season dished out 882 assists, still a franchise record.
Miller left the year before the tank I’m pretty sure. I’d remember something that painful
Was Miller on the team that tanked for LBJ? If do that’s pretty frustrating. Miller, Davis (nominee for 20 worst Cavaliers), LBJ, boozer, and Z, would have won a playoff series that year. The Cavs the next year would have given both the pistons and the pacers a run for there money. Cavs vs heat and pistons in 05 and 06 would have been riveting stuff especially with the wade, LeBron, darko aspect going on.
Yeah I think Bingo Smith should be ranked much higher. And yes, the real disagreements are about to start.
I hope Z makes no. 1 I really like Z, he’s so dedicated to this organization. I’ve watched him as a child, and his jersey just reminds me of his relentless work and dedication for the franchise. In my mind, Z is number 1 in my all time cavs list. (Sorry if I missed out a lot of other cavs, but I only started watching the cavs in the late 90s)He wasn’t flashy, and to be honest he was only an above average center. But I think he represented the franchise well, his modest, humble yet hard working traits are… Read more »
Miler should be ahead of Harper. This is not a question of the better player. Harper was a stud in Cleveland and the Harper for Ferry trade ranks up there with the all time bad Cavs deals (Which is saying a lot considering the Ted Stepien era). But Harper was traded before he left a major mark on the team as a whole. Miller just had more time with the Cavs. During some very dark days in C-town. Frankly I’m surprise Harper was above Bingo Smith. Bingo was the face of the Cavs for years along with Austin Carr. Harper… Read more »
Creating a list like this is a lot of fun if you like arguments! The fact that two #CavsRankers did not rank Harper brings up the question of where are you getting these #CavsRankers? Miller was the best player on some so-so Cavs teams. Harper was one of three great players on maybe the best Cavs team ever. Most of the national media expected that Cavs team to supplant the Pistons as the best team. Then a couple bad events unfolded: (1) A Piston (Mclure?) elbowed Mark Price in the back of the head at midcourt and gave him a… Read more »
1. Miller ahead of Harper is insane. 2. BTW, don’t forget Miller chose to hitch his star to Carmello rather than LBJ. Had he chosen the Cavs back when he was good, LBJ’s career would have started with the core of LBJ, Zydrunas, Boozer, and Miller. They might have contended that year. Compare that to our core now, when Gilbert thinks it is time start contending! Because Miller chose Denver, the Cav’s idiot GM spent the money on long term contracts for Kevin Ollie(!) and someone from Miami of Ohio who had never started (thankfully forgot his name); and then… Read more »
A quick rundown of Miller versus Harper:
– Two #CavsRankers did not rank Harper. Everyone included Miller in their top 20.
– Miller peaked with two #10’s and one #9. Harper peaked with one #12 and one #9.
– 11 of 19 #CavsRankers had Miller over Harper.
– Miller played 245 regular season games and zero playoff games and accumulated nearly 24 win shares. His PER was 20.
– Harper played 228 regular season games and 9 playoff games, generating almost 19 win shares. His PER was 18.
These two were very close, but that appears to be appropriate.
The real injustices probably start tomorrow and carry over into next week.
Harper was far more superior to Miller, however Miller got killed by a bad coach when he was a Cavalier. Incidentally the same coach now is coaching the Wiz. I felt bad for Miller at the time and still do. No wonder that he didn’t want to sign with Cavs. We had so many bad coaches since 70. That is just my opinion. Go Cavs
Andre Miller above Ron Harper is my first major objection.
Great series, though. Keep ’em coming.
