Tom Izzo to hold presser, likely to announce plans to stay at MSU
2010-06-15Looks like Tom Izzo will not be the next head coach of the Cavaliers. He is going to hold a press conference at 7 PM EST, likely to announce that he will stay at MSU.
Windhorst is reporting that the Cavs are still searching for a coach, meaning that Izzo is likely not taking the job.
It looks like what happened here is that Izzo didn’t want to leave unless he knew LeBron was staying, and LeBron didn’t want to commit to staying. I don’t have to tell you that that isn’t a great sign. Byron Scott is now your probable front-runner.
All Im saying is Im sick of all the dancing around. Either commit, or don’t. I hated it when it started at the end of last year, and I hate it even more now. Everything the Cavs do must “please LeBron” and “convince LeBron to stay.” Why? Why must the organization bow down to one individual? Guess what: The Cavs were here before LeBron, and they’ll still be here if Bron decides to leave. Its time they stopped doing things to make LeBron happy, and start doing things that will help the organization long term. (As for the signings, its… Read more »
Plus, regarding Ferry and ’05, remember that before Ferry came on board, Paxson had traded away the Cavs’ first-round picks in 2005 and 2007, for Sasha Pavlovic and the immortal Jiri Welsch. It’s hard to build through the draft when you don’t have picks.
Colin, explain to me how the awful Ferry signings of ’05 are his fault? I mean..what? Wade and Bosh signed the exact same deals. I’m starting to get really sick of fans blaming LeBron for everything under the sun now. He comes out on Larry King and talks, well it’s because he’s an attention whore. So now he remains totally silent AND THAT IS ALSO CONSTRUED AS ATTENTION WHORING?? Wtf is the man supposed to do here? Him not commiting is the exact same way every other big name FA is playing it so far. Good god people stop treating… Read more »
I don’t see any way this isn’t LeBron’s fault. It was his fault in 05 when he wanted Ferry to make all the big signings to make the team a contender right away, rather than build through the draft like they should have done. It was his fault when he signed the 3 year extension knowing full well what would happen in the last year of his deal. It was his fault for playing a sub-par series against the Celtics. And most of all, its his fault for not coming out and saying he’s staying/leaving. By staying non-committal, he is… Read more »
Maybe the Cavs can get Nash!
Oh, and random note, but it’s a rough time to be a Suns fan right now too I’m guessing. I think it’s clear that Sarver is done paying people, and that means Amare is out. If Amare and Kerr are out, you can’t imagine Steve Nash NOT asking to be traded. This is probably the beginning of the end of PHX suns as we’ve known them for a while.
It isn’t LeBron’s fault. It especially isn’t LeBron’s fault if he has already decided he is leaving, in which case talking to Izzo would have been the worst thing he could have done.
It’s just a sad time to be a Cavs fan right now. Gilbert swung for the fences and he whiffed. I had hope. I believed, yet again, that someone could do something drastic and totally change the team in an instant, and yet again I was let down. Oy, the life of being a Cleveland fan is rough.
LeBron is getting so much bad press for all this. Not sure what is fair and what is not.
Well that’s that. Someone try and explain how this doesn’t look bad at this point. We got snubbed by a college coach directly infront the press, all the while LeBron stays silent, while other teams in the LeBron running are hiring solid coaches (Pat Riley possibly returning the bench in Miami is counted here).
Eh, I’d say I’m about 60% now on leBron leaving.
Krolik you need to stop biting on these early reports. They’ve gotten you twice in the last week.
I’m still trying to gather info. here, but ESPN is reporting that it’s still up in the air and is mentioning nothing of a presser. Either way, Dan Gilbert needs to absolutely move on right now to save face while he has time. If there is no announcement tonight, Gilbert just needs to loudly say he is moving on with his search and will be offering other candidates jobs by tommorow.
