Your daily Brian Windhorst hope tweet
2010-07-02”All these teams working on big-name partnership includes #Cavs. Source said Raptors like some of Cavs players in potential sign-and-trade.”
-Brian Windhorst, via his twitter account.
Thinking Varejao must be a key piece, but he’s got 6 years left. Maybe they’ll take two years of Jamison and try to get the Cavs to eat Turkoglu or something like that. Whatever the details, this is good news. We’re in this thing.
Anyone else see Tommy Dee (a knicks blogger) tweeting that Knicks met with LBJ’s people again today and that Carter was heading to New York on thursday? I haven’t seen anyone else actually confirm this (have seen places just re-tweet his stories) so I’m highly skeptical at this point.
Kj, if Bosh doesn’t want to come here because of his over-evaluation of himself then he isn’t coming here. Frankly, it’s Houston imo.
@rich
there is NO WAY bosh is taking less money to play in miami. and the cavs ABSOLUTELY have a chance to work a s&t with toronto for him. again, it’s gonna be houston or us.
windy said we’re also looking at al jefferson, who i think would be a good fit. also gilbert arenas. not sure i care for that. i want an all-star level big on this team…
Man..do you guys realize Hedo actually managed to work a trade kicker into his already awful contract? I mean, he was untradeable w/o that kicker..now I don’t even think a person is allowed to eve ndream about trading for him.
Chris Paul, Hedo, Bron, Bosh, Okafor…. Get it done Grant!
In all seriousness though, Im going to try that one out on NBA 2K10…
Bosh can always simply take less money and head to miami. Other than that, it’s staying in Toronto, or going to Houston. Houston has been the dark horse the whole time, and really if he isn’t coming here, then that is the next best place.
Get him out of the East, and turn Houston into the biggest the threat to the Lakers starting day 1. What more could we ask for? Also, it’s another player that the Chicago’s/NYK/Miamis of the world won’t be able to get and will be left with nothing.
@colin well, i dunno if he’s “screwed” as he absolutely wants a max deal. the only people who can offer a good deal to toronto is us or houston. miami has literally nothing to offer and the bulls are almost as bad, in that they cannot offer much cap relief to toronto, if i understand correctly. but there is talk bosh is not thrilled with cleveland. but he might not have that much of a choice. however, i think that fact that houston has an established 5 in yao makes houston the favorite at this point. that guarantees bosh wouldn’t… Read more »
I just came up with an idea: I know Cavs fans are desperate for LeBron to stay and I’ve got a wild idea. Why don’t Dan Gilbert use all of his convincing powers to Toronto & Chris Bosh to do a sign-and-trade? My suggestion is to S&T Bosh + Jack for Jamison+Telfair+West+2011 first round draft pick. I know TOR signed Amir Johnson to a hefty contract but come on, he’s not yet ready. Jamison could help Amir develop, plus Toronto now has expiring contracts of Telfair & West for next season, which saves them money, and signing Bosh to Cavs… Read more »
@KJ:
If that’s the case, then Bosh is screwed. He has said he doesn’t want to play that close to home, and, supposedly (though I don’t believe it fully) doesn’t want to come here.
@rich
please re -read my posts. it’s gonna come down to a s&t with either us or housotn for bosh. i’m telling ya…
In the same breath..I think Bosh’s stance is going to be what keeps LeBron in Cleveland. His unwillingness to accept anything less than max, and a SnT max at that means no trio. The only way that could happen was if the players all agreed to take less money. Bosh clearly isn’t. And I think at this point the Bulls w/o a second player (and no, Boozer isn’t going to get it done) won’t be enough to go.
Oh, and Broussard just said again, for about the twenty third time, that BOsh just simply does not want to play in Cleveland. This is the ONE BIG reason I think LeBron could leave. We always like to say, “well, if LeBron just committed players would come.” No, they dont. Bosh has basically told LeBron that he wants to play with him anywhere but Cleveland. LeBron sees this, and has to be disheartened that fellow stars don’t want to come to this city. How are we supposed to win if players don’t feel like coming here, not because of LeBron,… Read more »
Oh, and where are all the writers killing Nowitzki for re-signing? I keep hearing from the great Chad Ford and Chris Sheridan that LeBron needs to leave because the Cavs have no flexibility. Well, Dirk could EASILY say the same about the Mavs…yet he re-signs (for less than the max btw). He hasn’t won a title in Dallas, yet it’s ok for him to stay, but LeBron needs to leave. For everyone out there who says the MSM doesn’t have some sort of bias against LeBron playing in a small market, analyze these two situations and figure it out for… Read more »
Colin, it’s ok if a team takes him like Portland, because they are close enough to cap (actually over) that they can’t just take it and absorb. They have to send equal salary back, which in the end won’t make a difference. Of course, you always have those guys with team options that you can bounce off the roster and what not.
Yea, there is absolutely nothing from the possible teams LeBron will go to that is worth taking back. I mean, fantastic, we got a draft pick or two…to bad they will be split up, and in the latter half of the draft. AFter that, i mean, do you want Mario Chalmers and Mike Beasley? What about Luol Deng? I sure don’t. So, unless LeBron decides he’s leaving and feels like going to say, Houston, where we can New Yorks lottery picks, then pass.
@Rich:
Minnesota’s not the one to worry about in regards to Deng. Portland is the team that appears to be interested.
And Chris, why would the Cavs trade him? They would have to go into rebuilding mode if he leaves, and the only way to do that is to dump a few contracts. No team with room to get LeBron is going to take the Cavs junk with him.
our hopes of getting bosh are shrinking -> http://sports.espn.go.com/nba/news/story?id=5352236 on a related note: i hope our management isn’t stupid enough to seriously not consider a sign-and-trade for lebron if he tells them he is set on leaving. getting a little from something is a lot better than getting NOTHING for something. the whole “we don’t want to be the ones who traded lebron” fear is just nonsense talk. a lot of the reason our team doesn’t have a quality star next to lebron is BECAUSE WE LET ONE WALK AND GOT NOTHING IN RETURN. whether that was boozer’s shadiness or… Read more »
Hey, Wolves gonna meet with David Lee. Let’s hope they somehow find a way to get him and totally eat up all of their cap space…therefore getting rid of any shot of them taking on Deng.
That said…David Lee obviously makes Al Jefferson gettable. Although, the stuff I’ve been reading on jefferson on the Wolves blogs isn’t pretty. Doesn’t work hard. Off the court issues. Pretty poor teammate, etc.
Im surprised Amare is so quickly committing to New York. Granted, it isn’t July 8th, and that can allchange, but still. You’d think he’d like to see if he can get the same deal from Chicago or even NJ before going to New York (although, he wouldn’t have a spot in NJ..as Favors looks like he’ll be the same sort of player as Amare). I actually read a SAS article, and his full belief in the aura of New York City is amazing. He honestly thinks that every star in the league is just itching to play there. He thinks… Read more »
Can someone explain the Darko signing to me? That doesn’t make sense.
The Cavs can no longer get Amare as the Suns have renounced his rights. This means he can’t be used in a sign and trade, which is the only way the Cavs could have gotten him.
Wait, Varejao has 6 years left??He signed a 7 year contract? That doesn’t seem right…
please no Amare!!
I hope Windhorst is right, but Bosh says he’s done with visits, for now and Amare is supposed to be close to a Knicks deal. Are the Cavs really in the running for these guys? Do they even have a visit planned with either one?
T-wolves have 7.4mil available…cant take on deng’s contract…if bosh doesnt pan out, the cavs need to get Al Jefferson. Ultimate salary dupm for a young big with elite post game
@james
miami has no here near the assets the cavs do to offer toronto. miami is out, IMO. it’s either houston, clevland, or maybe chicago…
KAAAAAAAAAAAHHHHHHHHHHNNNNNNNNNNN!!!!!!!111!!!!!!11!!!!!
I just looked at that, and even after the Webster deal, the Darko deal only puts them at like 40 million (not counting the bird rights etc. etc.). Now, I’m not sure how the 1st round rookie contracts will work, but I know they get added in even before being signed. But that is still only gonna put them at like 42-44 million. They have just enough room to totally screw over the entire NBA. Don’t put it past David Kahn.
@Rich. twolves don’t have much cap room left after the darko signing
I will be living in utter fear of David Kahn for the next 24 hours. The man is insane, and the T-Wolves are well under the cap. If there is anyone in this world that is willing to take on Dengs contract and give nothing back in return (therefore allowing CHicago to not take on more salary), it’s this man. The Chris Paul thing is gaining a little steam. What really needs to happen is Byron Scott just needs to go ahead and blatantly tamper. call up Chris Paul, tell him to start making noise and get himself out of… Read more »
Cavs are in a great position to get bosh if he actually wants to come. Biggest threat I see is Miami. Don’t think toronto wants beasley, but I believe Miami has their draft pick next year, which they could give back. Seeing what Toronto is going to look like next year, that could be a valuable asset. Plus, it’s not really what team can put together the best package, teams just have to be able to offer something Toronto would take. Then it’s up to bosh.
If Bosh isn’t going to happen, let’s order some pizzas and pull an all-nighter to figure out a way to get Chris Paul on the Cavs. Scott loves him, LeBron loves him. He said today that the Hornets better act now to get him a team or he wants out. Translation: I want a part of this 2010 business.
I’m fine with taking Okafor’s contract back. It would cost the Cavs West, JJ, Mo? Who else? Is it possible? The ESPN Trade Machine isn’t liking anything I put in.
it’s not max money as much as it’s max years that matter to bosh, he wants thta 6th year. he only gets that year through and S & T. the cavs are then become very attractive to the raptors. not sure what houston could offer to beat what we have to offer.
That said, finding a taker for Dengs contract is nearly impossible. It has to be someone at least 11+ million under the cap so they don’t have to send any salary back. then, that person actually has to be willing to take Deng, knowing exactly whats going to happen. I mean, does Deng improve your team enough to basically hand the keys to another team so they can run the NBA? I seriously mean that too. If you give another team the ability to win a title, w/o competition, for the next 5 years, do you make the deal even… Read more »
Ben, the reason it’s an option is because those other teams are counting on that extra cap space to get another star in there. If they take on one of Toronto’s bad contracts, then they can only get Bosh. The Cavs already (so to speak) have LeBron. Cap space doesn’t matter to them. So, for instance, let’s look at the Miami Heat. They have been trying to sign Bosh, Wade, and LeBron. Well, if they make a trade for Bosh, and then also take on Turks contract..that’s it for their hopes of LeBron. They can’t afford to take on that… Read more »
Varejao would undoubtedly be a key piece. Windhorst already confirmed Toronto’s interest in him and said Colangelo has been trying to acquire him for a few years now. The Cavs certainly have the pieces to entice the Raptors with a Bosh s&t, perhaps more so than any other team (remember, Bosh has to sign off on the destination as well, so the Cavs are competing against a limited number of teams).
We need a ‘like’ option on this blog.
Why is it more of an option for the Cavs to take bad contracts than the other teams? I’m pretty new to NBA salary cap rules.
Here is how I see it: A. If getting the max money is the most important thing to Chris Bosh, Cleveland is in it. B. If that is the case, then Houston is in it. C. Houston can probably throw something together that beats us. D. Bosh would have to actually want to come Cleveland. E. If he does, and refuses to go to Houston, then I’ll be a happy man. Long way to go, obviously, but if Bosh is who I think he is, and he absolutely has to get that money, then the cavs always had more to… Read more »
