LeBron James: The Golden Boy No More
2010-07-08I got most of what I wanted to say about LeBron’s departure out of the way last night (I assumed he was leaving), so I don’t think I need to say all that much more here.
That said, here’s my post-decision LeBron piece for Pro Basketball Talk, which does cover some new ground about LeBron’s future.
Here’s the link: http://probasketballtalk.nbcsports.com/2010/07/lebron-james-the-golden-boy-no-more.php
Let me know what you guys think. I’ve gotta get to packing, because tomorrow morning I go to Vegas to cover the Summer League. It should be fun, so try and sleep well. This blog isn’t going anywhere, and I promise we’re going to continue having fun talking Cavs and talking basketball. Until tomorrow, everyone.
If all you Lebron critics hate the means and not the ends, then stop saying all this bullshit: 1. that he sold out and ‘bought’ a championship 2. that he isn’t jordan and will never be as great as him for teaming up with 2 super teammates Because that doesn’t make sense. If he stays in Cleveland everyone will say he’s a loser, and now what he did was give himself the best chance to win, you say he FREAKING SELLS OUT. what kind of stupid argument is that? Call him cruel, classless, yes, for how he did his decision,… Read more »
Search “lifted athletics” on google and check out our lifting guide!! Its pretty helpful and it will get you in shape
Also, is there any single player move which helped the career/legacy of other players? I see lebron’s decision help settle Kobe as the best player of this era… Propelled Kevin durant as the next great superstar… and in a few months time, helped people realize wade is the greatest player from the 2003 class..
Lastly, lebron didn’t just lose money from the salary cut, with the worldwide backslash of the big stupid decision, I believe it will drastically affect all his endorsement money.
I thought I was a lebron fan until “the big stupid decision”. This “super team is really built on a shaky ground. they won’t be able to get out of the east next year. Even if by chance they manage to get past Orlando/Boston/Chicago/Milwaukee, Kobe will kill them in the finals. 2012 will be durant’s year, if no longer kobe’s. It is also possible that by this time Chicago found another star to go with their much better constructed team. Then Dwight will be the most dominant player for a long time. Just add another perimeter player and they are… Read more »
I will start to respect kobe more from now on than this guy…I mean he isnt as good as lbj skill-wise(lets face it, dude’s 31, he is past his real prime)…but he is so much better of a person than LeTraitor is…thats why he is blessed with 5 rings and LBJ has 0…hope you rot in hell for this dude…:@:@:@
The whole Olympics thing is so overblown. Yea it worked in the Olypmics, because in the Olympics Wade and Bosh were BENCH players. The team was insanely talented and every player you put on the court was a star. Easy to make it work when everyone is good. Not see easy when only three people are good and every single person who gets off your bench is a name you’ve never heard. Hey, kiddies are getting on CLE fans still, know this, LBJ wasn’t returning ANY of Gilbert’s calls for a week. Understand that he had TOTALLY shut the organzation… Read more »
Miami probably will win 60+ games but so did Cleveland the last two years and they never made the Finals. Weird things can happen even with three All-Stars. I love how everyone is saying how it worked in the Olympics. Well, that is basically eight glorified exhibition games against shitty competition with Coach K, Jim Boeheim, Nate McMillan and Mike D’Antoni as coaches. To win the NBA title, you have to play over 100 games and bounce back from adversity. Wade has done it before, the other two haven’t. And Wade is also a little injury prone himself. And they… Read more »
Well, you deal with the Devil you get burned. I guess we have to take these draft picks, but mf’er it’s a pain to have to bow down to the Heat for this. Gilbert probably burned some bridges with agents and dealers but going after ‘Melo would be awesome. As would maybe picking up Paul at the Trade Deadline if we can stay competitive and NO sags in the West standings. I think hiring Byron Scott can give us some pull. Heads up. Making the playoffs as a late seed and matching up with Heat in 1st Round would get… Read more »
haha. wah wah wah.. boo hoo hoo.. cavaliers now will be a 30 game winner, and all this whining about lebron is comedic.
I’m tellin ya, the best way to tear it down is by giving away the pieces to the rest of the East. It would just be glorious to see them run into Boston/Orlando i nthe 2nd round and get blown up inside.
I know what we can do. The Cavs are now a 29 team squad. Anything to beat Lebron. Anything. I hope he dies while losing. That man better never step foot in this state again.
I dunno what to do. I know floundering around as a 7th and 8th won’t get it done. But, I really just want this team to prove it can win w/o LeBron, just for them. That said, I’m really depressed because of the East. How in the hell are we ever going to be good now. The year we happen to crash, is the year the East becomes monsterous. Chicago/Milwaukee/NYK (if they land Melo)/Boston/Orlando/Miami. What in the holy hell are we going to do here? Only one of those teams has a bunch of age. Two of them are super… Read more »
(playing 1st seed Miami)
LOL Rich you are hilarious..you are the backbone of this blog – even as its being infiltrated. So what could we get in a Snt? I still think the Cavs with this roster can be at least a 7th or 8th playoff seed. That would be..too soon.
Ok…should we do a SnT for LeBron? I don’t really know here. We could take as many picks..and between us and Houston they will be left with no picks from now until forever. OR, we could not do a SnT, therefore making LeBron paid less than the other two. He’s in Wade’s city AND he’s paid less….that shit would tear him up at night.
It’s ok Orbit, people who don’t live where you do probably feel the same about you.
I’m not from Cleveland and I don’t even live on the same coast as most you cabs fans. I really feel for the cavs yesterday was a sad day and seeing lebron in that heat uniform was the oddest sight ever. I can’t place words on it. I guess I can vaguely understand the feeling most of you must feel. I loved watching the cavs and even though I’ll watch him play in Miami it’s not going to be the same. I’ll miss this blog too.
You do realize the rest of the country thinks you guys are pathetic, right?
Let big Z go to Miami and ring chase. He’s earned it. We traded him, he can move on. It will make it that much sweet when the Heat come to town because simply chant things about Z all night and praise him right infront of Ledick. Phil, I think the window (hopefully) is quite small tbh. Because if they don’t win this year, the ego’s will absolutely collide. Everyone thinks this will be some easy transition..ugh no. Two 1A alpha dogs who absolutely want all of the spot light are going to clash. They can say all they want… Read more »
A New York Times column today that was mainly about the World Cup had a few good lines that may offer some comic relief: In New York on Thursday, people of all ethnicities were far more consumed by a different sport, one in which every 24 seconds or so, 10 men jump in the air. Their focus was laserlike as they waited breathlessly for word from LeBron James, who may be more self-regarding than Lady Gaga, about where he wished to play basketball next season. Television air time was cleared for his announcement, a privilege usually reserved for a president… Read more »
In fairness, I’m not sure why anyone should have a problem with Z joining the Heat. He’s a FA too…and for that matter gave more of himself to Cleveland than Lebron. If he wants to go to the Heat for his best shot at a ring, so be it – it would offer a silver lining to a Heat championship, or as close to such a thing as there could ever be, considering.
Unless Z decides to announce his decision on a pointless hour long’ ESPN special, of course.
Who wants to buy some DVDs!?
@Kevin… If I have to burn my Ilgauskas jersey too I will seriously go on a chainsaw rampage…
DEAR MR.GILBERT (WEST GOES BEST)
P.S. IM STILL GOING TO WEAR MY LEBRON $750.00 LEATHER JACKET WITH MASKING TAPE ACROSS THE BACK…..GILBERT YOU LET ME DOWN, I LOOKED GOOD IN THAT BLACK AND BURGUNDY.. 4 OF MY 6 GIRLFRIENDS ARE UPSET WITH YOU ON THAT ONE…LOL!
ALL THE HATE ? MANAGMENT? WHY WASNT DELONTE WEST PLAYING IN ALASKA FOR SARAH PALIN OR IN CHURCH CLOTHES THE REMAINING SEASON? WAS HE SUPPOSED TO GET A RING FOR THAT? CLEVL FANS! STERN? BURNING JERSEY’S / YOUR CITY HAD 7 YEARS OF 1 YOUNG MANS LIFE TO RIDE EVERY ANGLE,GOD GAVE HIS SON TO THE SAME SELFISH BULL, IF HE GOT HURT OFF COURT IT WOULD JUST BE A SHAME RIGHT? YET O.K NOT ONE BOO WHEN WEST HIT THE FLOOR YET YOU LOVE JAMES? OR USED. HE WANTED TO STAY!! YALL LET HIM DOWN…SAY SORRY BEFORE HE SIGNS…SEND… Read more »
Good luck with Bosh and Z against Howard, or Gasol/Odom/Bynum. The Heat may be looking at a pretty small window. Unless Pat Riley can pull several rabbits out of his hat, it will take them a year or two to get a legit 8- or 9-man rotation. Wade already has a lot of miles on him and an injury history, so he may have only 2 or 3 years left before he starts looking like Ron Artest. It wouldn’t surprise me if any resemblance between the Heat and a Superteam lasts for only a couple of seasons. Ah, a fellow… Read more »
Windy is reporting that the Heat are contacting Z’s agent. This is fucking bullshit.
What’s amazing is that LeBron leaves, and the LeBron fanboys seem to mulitply in numbers around here. I’m not sure what type of natural law this is, but I don’t like it.
That said, if they fail this year, how many LeBron fanboys finally hop off the Lebron wagon? Miami certailny will stop caring. Hell, they’ll probably stop caring as soon as the team loses a game. If he can’t win it now, then even the most blinded individuals will have to take a long, hard look at the king.
Tangman-Teach me maturity. As payment, I’ll teach you how a sentence needs a subject AND a verb.
Since when did this site get taken over by ridiculous LeBron fanboys? I can’t wait until the Cavs sink firmly into mediocrity so we can have some decent comment sections again.
Who would have won the title this year if Lebron had played for LA and Kobe had played for Cleveland? Kobe is one of the best ever. Still, Shaq won his first three rings. This year Kobe missed the winning shot in one game – Artest put it in. In GAME 7 of the finals, he was 6-24, 0-6.
Ugh… any rumors as to what’s next?
I bought this shirt as a pick me up…

ya.. cloudy will slight chance of crap!
The post above is real mature. Amirite?
I think Eyenga is on the summer league squad chamois. Not sure about Kaun.
Teach us, Tangman. Teach us maturity. Teach us grace. Come, Tangman. Come and teach us. And bring your sister. Please bring your sister Tangman. Bring her to teach us, too.
Cleveland fans so immature and spiteful. No wonder why you guys never win shit. You guys don’t deserve it.
Anyone know if Eyenga or Sasha Kaun are on the summer league team? They aren’t listed.
Anyway, I hope Gilbert cools off and decides to blow up the team and rebuild. I’m not a season ticket holder, but I’d rather sit through sit through a couple really bad seasons than have a middle-of-the-road winner without good draft picks or cap space for the next ten years.
wish krolik would add a non-bron post
Lebron thinks he is a God we all know that, what is so surprising about his actions? did you really expect anything more from the guy who dances in the middle of an nba game, refuses to shake his opponents hand (a simple gesture of respect to ones opponents) calls his team a “supporting cast” and proclaims he spoils people with his game? It is perfectly in character, this is who Lebron was and who Lebron is, it should come as no surprise, the fans and the publicity have made him think he is a God, and a God does… Read more »
It’s hard to tell if we actually have a Miami Heat fan sighting here…..or is it just a LeBron fan???Not sure…I’m thinking LeBron fan because Heat fans are so damn rare that the odds of one of them making their way to a Cavs board is unlikely. If you are a Heat fan, think about how you would be feeling if Wade up and bolted for Chicago. After Riley tore that team apart to specifically set him up for this off-season, imagine Wade leaving. You’d have two effin players on your roster. I’m sure you would understand though, right? Idiots… Read more »
Quick, someone help! They’ve run out of punctuation in Miami!
wow realy yall i can understand being man but talkin bad about him iz just foul lets look at facts he took this team that every one forgot about and made them big took them to palyoffs increaced ticket sells made it possable for new jerseys gave people something to bleave in but at the same time he is one person and one person dose not win championships look at nba history not a single team has one it all wit just one player and if so please let me know ill wait at the end of the day he… Read more »

“Comic Sans Font gilbert (who mind you, isn’t some kid from a hardscrabble neighborhood in Akron who pulled himself up with his own talents) is just another billionaire tycoon playing sports mogul” Please. Because knowing from about the age of 12 that he was a physical/genetic freak that was built to play basketball, and that the world around him would kiss his soon-to-be millionaire ass from that day forward is “pulling himself up” with his own talents. Yeah, what a warrior. The number of apologists bringing up this useless counter argument of “But…But….owners are mean people too!” is interesting. So… Read more »
The fact that he left was bad enough. The fact that he created such a circus, and let those teams find out by watching TV, is just classless. I hope Gilbert is right and the curse follows him down there.
I’m getting one of these and wearing it to every NBA game I go to:
“Beat 6” fake Lebron HEAT jersey T-shirt – http://bit.ly/cgIeLS
Who has been excusing owners for treating their players like shit? That’s such a stupid, non-relevant point to make.
And it’s definitely not jealousy, you moron. It’s disappointment. Cavs fans have been defending Congressman James as a person for the last 7 years against every accusation of egotism, selfishness, and lack of heart. We truly believed these accusations were slanderous and ruthlessly attacked everyone who leveled them. What you’re seeing here is Cavs fans finally forced to see LeBron for who he is and the utter disappointment that results.
Go wax his knob on Heat blogs.
