Notes and Errata: August 4th, 2010
2010-08-04(Random theory: I feel that the way somebody feels about Kanye West’s twitter stream can tell you a lot about how they relate to culture and the idea of celebrity in general. If you are reading Kanye’s tweets because you want to know what kind of human being Kanye is, you react to them one way. If you see Kanye West as nothing more than an entity that delivers music and semi-surrealist tweets to the public, you react to them in a very different way. Yes, this theory is relevant to this blog.
All I’ll say is that Kanye has just enough self-awareness to really be a danger to himself, like when somebody has a vague idea of how to count cards at a blackjack table. To put it another way, Kanye is just sane enough to make his insanity truly compelling. Okay, I’m rambling.)
-On LeBron’s letter to Akron: I guess it’s a chicken-or-egg thing, right? LeBron goes on TV and says he doesn’t care about Cleveland. In response, Cleveland has a semi-riot against LeBron and burns his jerseys in effigy while his former owner attempts to put a curse upon his house. Is LeBron’s “snuffing” of Cleveland a response to the hatred/jersey-burning, or is it further evidence that he never cared about Cleveland in the first place? Most Cleveland residents will likely say the latter, but I think expecting LeBron to publicly thank Cleveland at this juncture was perhaps a bit unrealistic.
Shaq may be officially gone. I like how both Shaq and Jermaine O’Neal look like bad signings for the Celtics because both Shaq and JON looked absolutely awful against the Celtics in last season’s playoffs.
If Shaq hadn’t busted up his thumb (against the Celtics) or the Cavs had actually played the Magic in the playoffs last season, there would have been real demand for him this off-season. Part of me feels like Ainge and Doc Rivers are working the same swagger that the bad guy from the new Casino Royale movie was. Ever since Kevin Garnett saw that movie, he has made it his solemn mission to only cry tears of blood. Until Rajon Rondo got his first playoff triple-double, those tears were the only thing he was allowed to drink in Garnett’s presence.
-Delonte waived. I hope he comes back, but if the Cavs don’t have interest, there’s likely a good reason.
-Well, that’s all for tonight — I think I might be losing my mind a little bit. Until tomorrow, campers.
Lebron seems to sincerely believe he can remain pro-Akron while shitting all over Cleveland and Cleveland Cavaliers fans. I was born in Akron and grew up closer to Akron than Cleveland but I root for Cleveland sports teams because, well, Akron doesn’t have any. It’s like he doesn’t understand that whether or not Cleveland was his hometown, Cleveland IS his hometown team, whether he personally identifies with it or not. When you shit on the Cleveland Cavaliers and their fans, you shit on the whole region, including Akron.
^^ Nupe you are completely correct about the fan support. I already have friends telling
me they are not watching the Cavs next season, I just tell them to watch the Heat instead since they were just on the bandwagon…
At least now I can afford to go to the Q.
I hope nothing crazy happens at the bike-a-thon. All we need is some crazy cavs fan to go Tanya Hardin on LeBron…
Heather, I agree with you. This letter was PR, per Maverick it was intentionally sent before if fund-raising bike ride in Akron. I think doing some kind of PR was a good idea so he can get some positive press while riding through the streets of Akron, I’m sure he’s hoping that “LeBron Fans” show up versus “Cavs Fans”. The last thing he wants is to be doing something good for the kids (and his image), but have it backfire as the media picks up on the angry Cavs fans with Traitor signs posted all along the bike route. I… Read more »
I posted on LeBron’s letter the other day, but I did not make my point as clearly as I wanted to. I believe this letter is simply PR. However, even if it is not, aren’t most Akron residents Cleveland sports fans? All my relatives that live in the Akron area are diehard Cleveland fans. So I still feel that LeBron doesn’t care about them. To me, someone growing up in NE Ohio and rooting for the Yankees and Cowboys would be rightly criticized as a front running, bandwagon fan with no loyalty – which is exactly the traits LeBron showed… Read more »
Brob-Bron was going to leave anyway. The whole debacle looked like it had been in motion for months, maybe years. The whole conjecontetured “business” between Gloria and Delonte just give him an easy, retrospective excuse.
That being said, it definitely seemed to weigh on him (if true), because after that came outof the woodwork, he just seemed to disconnect spiritually from the team.
And if the Delonte and Gloria thing is true, and that was a major factor in LeBron going into crybaby mode, them I’m as mad at Delonte as I am LeBron. Mental health issues or not, you can’t assume that won’t blow up in your face. Like I said, its just time to move on.
How about the fact that Delonte West simply wasn’t that good last season? His off the court issues clearly caught up with his play on the court, and it was noticeable. Windhorst hinted that there was a lot that happened behind the scenes during the 08-09 season that was covered up…
He also said on Twitter today that there was a 00.00000% chance he comes back. So, lets move on.
besides the guns-and-a-3-wheeler and sticking Mrs James(which, if true we REALLY need him back) which trouble do you mean? I haven’t heard of anything but those. Oh, plus him ripping on Hickson for doughnut and the Hotsauce vid.
Am I one of the few Cavs fans that doesn’t want Delonte back? The guy has proven to be more trouble off the court than production on the court, and this is coming from someone who LOVES Delonte. I just don’t think he is worth it anymore.
Amen to that. We need some interior toughness back.
No way Delonte goes to LA. Him and Artest on the same team would be too much crazy for one franchise to handle. BRING HIM BACK TO CLEVELAND!
For fuck’s sake block these email add’ys Krolik.
Waah-waah. Case in point.
vorax stop fucking kevin in the ass
kevin stay in boston BITCH u cant block me

Yeah Krolik we need a report or block feature or a mod…I nominate myself…
Mark=Kidtoucher
Don’t feed the trolls.
LeBron proved himself a man with zero class or respect. He should expect neither from us in his return to Cleveland.
I’ll be wearing one of these, myself:

Hey all, can we make it policy to ignore trolls? These long conversations make it much less enjoyable to read the comment sections.
vorax you a pussy ass bitch stfu
Well said Nupe…
Touche’. I hear this crap about Delonte being a Laker soon, but I say we still grab him back up.
Think it could happen?
Man but everybody needs some basketball to focus on. Bring on the 2010/11 season please.
I don’t know if from the top of his head Mark can name any Heat players from last year’s roster – probably not. However, it doesn’t really matter if he can list them on the site as I’m sure he could just use google. Just sayin…
Why get personal with each other? It’s o.k. to disagree about Cavs and related items, but personal attacks aren’t needed, not to mention people coming to this blog for no other purpose than to make people angry. I think LeBrons letter was in poor taste exspecially since the reaction to he decision. He could have wrote the letter to NE Ohio and made special note to his hometown of Akron. Actually, his letter wasn’t really accurate considering that he hasn’t lived in Akron for the last few years, he really lives in Bath Township. But that’s not the point. I… Read more »
who’s more foolish Mark- the failure blog or the failure that trolls it?
….still waiting for you to name any heat player besides Wade, cupcake…
good for you while youre at it delete your failure of a blog site
Eh… I don’t really care that much whether you can or can’t. I’m not going to remember these comments in a week anyway, so I’ll just move on to something else.
not really colin by naming any other players on the heat roster from last season i would be putting rich in a bad position in life but if you really want me to colin all you have to do is ask me.
haha, I actually laughed at that comeback… until I realized he really did sidestep the question, proving Rich right.
i would but then i would take all of your life savings
10 bucks that Mark couldn’t name a single player on the Heat squad last season outside of Wade.
Who the hell is trading Chris Paul for Shaq and Mo?
LETS GO HEAT!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! CAVS SUCK ASS
Z GIRL, you do everyone in Northeast Ohio a disservice by posting crap like that.
Lebum Shames should still be in the hood…if it weren’t for CLEVELAND…that’s C-L-E-V-E-L-A-N-D not AKRON, his ass would still be a hood rat. Actually he will always be a hood rat…just one with $. LOSER.
I think Carter and Lebron overestimate Lebron’s individual popularity in Akron and Ohio. While we support players when they are here, I think most people, particularly in NE Ohio, are fans of the teams over the players. As a basketball fan I enjoy watching the best players wherever they play I very rarely ever care much about them. Sure I was a fan when he gave my team a chance win, but now that he is gone he falls into the same category as Kobe – great player, fun to watch on court when he isn’t whining, don’t have time… Read more »
Hey Chip. So you welcome someone into your home, make him one of the family. They didn’t really want to be there in the first place, and pretended that they liked you and they wanted the same thing you wanted. Then another opportunity comes along, so it is okay for them, to not only leave without a respectful goodbye, but to also snub you on the way out. Deal with it we have to. Like it we don’t. The man will probably never be welcome in the state of Ohio, and we’ll see this weekend when he comes back to… Read more »
Hey Chip P, we get it. Although, he did play in front of mostly CLEVELANDERS.
LBJ has always thought of Akron and Cleveland as two completely different places. Akron is his home. Cleveland is not. Deal with it.
@hoopsdogg
WHAT? Who gives up Chris Paul, Peja, Okafor and Posey for Shaq, Mo and “assets” ? *(Which by the way, before we started rebuilding, we really had no picks in the future worth anything)
Charlotte isn’t trading Cp3 even now that he is “disgruntled”. Why would they trade him when at the time he seemed pumped about being in Charlotte? You don’t dump the best point guard in the league to dump salary…
Well David Kahn would but besides him.
As for Delonte, I’d love to have him back.
Could we have gotten Chris Paul, Peja, Okafor, and Posey for Shaq, Mo, and assets last year? Probably. Shaq killed us.
