Live Thread: Raptors at Cavs

The Cavaliers look to extend their winning streak against the Toronto Raptors. This will be the third meeting already between the two projected playoff teams. The Drakes are still without DeMar DeRozan as he recovers from a torn groin. Ouch. Kyrie Irving versus Kyle Lowry is always a good time. James Johnson is one of the few people on the planet who seems to actively enjoy defending LeBron.
Fire away.
This team rocks
Cavs are 12-1 when they score +100 points and they have rised to 4th on defense eficiency.That is a pretty darn good recovery for them after the sloppy start.
Fun fact from tonight: Toronto had previously won it’s last 39 straight games when leading after the third quarter. Streak…snapped!

So pleased Delly is back to his old self after just 2 games. Great team game. Super effort down the stretch.
Toronto will be tougher when DeRozen comes back.
I think the Cavs would have beaten them even with DeRozan tonight. They were not going to be denied in the second half.
Did anybody mention that Lebron had 35 points tonight? Dion 18? You need a lot of guys to have good games to beat teams like Toronto.
Weirdly, the scoring didn’t stand out nearly as much as the hustle and defensive effort from all of the guys in the second half. After giving up 63 points in the first on 65% shooting, they gave up just 38 on just over 40% shooting.
Tristan switched onto Lowry in a critical moment at the end of the game and showed me footwork I’ve never seen before. This is not the same guy I watched last year. He’s also stronger than anyone knows. Lately, he’s been the last big man standing at the end of games.
Zach Lowe was watching and tweeted about that – that Tristan is switching onto guards effectively
After the game Kyrie said that Tristan “leads the league in switching onto guards.” What does he mean? Is there a stat for that. After TT stopped Lowry on that late play he shouted, “Yeah, that’s what I do! That’s what I do!” Kyrie said, “Yeah Tristan. Ok. That’s what you do.” : )
And then LeBron beast fury punched him in the right shoulder 3x. If he’d have done that to me it would have been FATALITY.
Delly should get the game ball.

Halfway through the game I thought, “Hmmm Valanciunas is not too bad. In the last six minutes he must have gone to the restroom or something because he disappeared and Thompson dominated.
Kyrie and Love must love this playoff-style basketball. I think this end of game intensity against top teams can become like a drug to players. In other words, the drug can kick in during games like this on a regular basis.

He played a good game in 21 minutes. 6 points,5 assists,3 rebounds and 2-4 on field goals. Nice numbers from him.
And he was FREAKING EVERYWHERE on the court tonight it seemed like. He was like that shot of adrenaline or when the paramedics hit someone with the paddles. CLEAR!!! IT’S DELLY TIME!!

Toronto shot 65% in the first half – not because we were bad – they were just good. Everything they threw up went in. But we kept it around 10 points. It would have been easy to break down, but we just kept playing. Defense really tightened up in the fourth (Delly!) and nobody can shoot that well all game. They started missing down the stretch and we hustled like crazy, played error free ball, and made plays. Lebron, Dion, Tristan, and Delly all had great games. Thompson, Delly and Dion played great. Dion carried the team in the first half and Delly and Dion got every lose ball and every stop in the 4th. Tristan would not be denied any rebound. The big three got the big baskets at the end

Huge game from LBJ. He did it all and looked like he had a lot of his old energy back. Raps came out guns blazing to the tune of 65% shooting in the first half. Cavs didn’t close out on the perimeter like they’ve been doing of late. Maybe a NY hangover, but Raps seemed just a step or two quicker tonight. Oh, and also some guy named Greg Johnson (who Jeff and I figured out MUST either be Brook Lopez or Brook Lopez’s agent) was so desperate for support on a mis-guided plan to bring Lopez to the Cavs, that he wrote an open letter to all of C:tB beseeching us to start a campaign to put pressure on the front office. All the while abusing the word “calipers.”

you weren’t watching the game maybe? Delly hounded the crap out of ball handlers til they wanted to punch him in the face. He raised our energy level by soooooo much when we were flat coming out for the second half. He grabbed two offensive rebounds in a row when we were down 99-97 and could have given the momentum back to the raps. he made several key assists when we needed big buckets. Well hopefully we can just knock down free throws and not have to worry about the rest of the game, but Tristan Thompson out worked about 4 Raptors per offensive board in the last 3 minutes of this game. He just wouldn’t let us lose, man. If anybody with size and no jumper wants to know if they can make an impact in the NBA, watch his tape over the last several games.

it seems like whenever KLove puts the ball on the floor to drive to the basket, he never looks to pass and only tries to score.
Just a question for those with the league pass: who are the biggest homer announcers? AC and Fred have to be top 10. Sean Elliott might be biggest right? At times AC exhausts me. Even my 6 year old asks if AC watches the same plays as us
AC has been pretty hard on the Cavs last couple games. Tommy Heinson has to be the #1 homer.

The Clippers announcers can be homers at times. Haven’t paid too much attention to many others to be honest. My 15 year old son actually loves listening to AC because he’s so unfoundedly demonstrative and has all the same cliched sayings that he repeats ad nauseam throughout the game. He just laughs and laughs. But then he is my son and has my sardonic sense of humor. It’s too late for him already.
My 6 year old loves the chuckles. And the breeze jokes.

Rough night so far for the D. 63 points is waaaaaay too much to give up in a half. No chance Raps continue to shoot 65 percent from the field. They’ve been hitting wide open shots as well as contested. Inside guys giving too much up to Jonas and James Johnson. Hurts that Andy has 3 fouls already (at least one was a cheapie that should have been a no-call).

The Brooklyn Nets are rumored to be in the midst of clearing house a little and the word is that Boston has the inside track to acquire the three mentioned players on Brooklyn’s roster. The Cav’s should push quickly and confidently to acquire Brooke Lopez. we desperately need a Center and one of the better players appears to be made available sooner than later. I wonder if cavs fans over estimate his value because he is on our team. I know some wolves fans who thought Derrick Williams was worth a future top 5 pick. Dude couldn’t admit he was a bust. Thinking dion might be valuable but only to mediocre teams where he can try to be Steve Francis 2.0.
