Live Thread: Cavs @ Clippers
2015-01-16Cleveland is in L.A. again tonight, to take on the 26-13 Clippers this time. The Cavs will need Timofey Mozgov this game, to counter the force that is DeAndre Jordan. Last game, Jordan was dominant, with a 17 point 18 rebound performance. As many a commenter has noted, the Clips are strong where the Cavs are weak: at the rim, and behind the three point line. Let’s hope the Cavs are up to the challenge. Kevin Love is a game time decision, as is J.R. Smith who apparently “tweaked his back” in warmups. Tonight’s headline pic comes from EvilGenius, who’s bringing us luck from inside the Staples Center. Let’s go Cavs!
After that late hold, LeBron is not gonna invite Chris Paul to his Bike-a-Thon this year in Akron.
Despite the announcers reminding us of what happened in Philly, Delly was #Klutch down the stretch with those free throws.
Okay, I’m officially a crazy person because I just started watching the replay of the game on ESPN and I can’t stop watching it. I’m sure Mark Jackson will annoy me enough eventually, or I’ll just doze off from exhaustion, but this is a win worth watching again…
Did you see LeBron pull a Nicky Santoro?
I didn’t see it, I was too busy trying to stop another drunk Cavs fan from getting pummeled by some not-too-pleased Clips fans. He kept screaming “Don-ald, Ster-ling!” He wasn’t a friend or anything, just didn’t want to see a fellow wine and gold enthusiast catch a beating…
Was it Christian Eyenga? http://articles.latimes.com/2011/mar/19/sports/la-sp-clippers-cavaliers-20110320
LOL, no, sadly it was not…
Are the Cavs able to sign Jason Collins? Or is that not #Klutch?
Got to say I am SO GLAD I didn’t have to listen to Mark Jackson. Sorry you guys had to. Sounds like he was doing a 2 1/2 hour interview for LBJ to be the next coach of the Cavs…
Don’t worry David Blatt, Dan Gilbert, David Griffin and Byron Scott showed LeBron an animated video of he and his friends in an episode of Family Guy prior to tonight’s game. In the video, LeBron wore Dorothy’s slippers from the Wizard of Oz and when the evil witch (with a superimposed image of Mark Jacksons face on the witch) showed up, Toto (TT for short) blocked the Jackson witches undermining compliments and then LeBron #Klutched it home with three taps or a triple-double…”There’s no place like home!”
LeBron was doing the ‘Nicky Santoro-Mafia-Face-Scratch’ in front of CP3. Hmmm I wonder what he mumbled?
Uh…he at least said to him “maybe don’t cheat to win next time you leg grabbing jerk”
I think he was saying “you better have my donuts” https://m.youtube.com/watch?v=ZukVN_djZds
Do GMs generally travel with the team?
Way to go EvilG! I fell asleep and missed most of the second half. Nothin’ like an EvilG-Thang baby!
Oh Man! I am still SO PUMPED! Just got home after 20 minute Troll Stroll from the Staples Center to my car and then a sublime hour ride home listening to the Clippers fans on LA sports radio complain about how broken their team is right now. Man it’s good to get a win and even better to hear SOME OTHER team’s fans bemoan their fate. I know it was ugly in the third, but man it was so good to see this team stick together, scrap and fight for a win against a very good Clippers team. The refs… Read more »
Nice!!! Are Clippers tix still cheaper than Laker tix? I’ve been to the Staples center once 10 years ago for a Kings (Hockey) game. It’s amazing how they can transform that place so quickly.
Much. There’s at least a $20 difference in the cheap seats and upwards of $150-$200 in the expensive ones. Case in point, there are about 3,000 tix available for the Clips vs. Celts on MLK Monday starting at a bargain basement $13.50.
Even though the Lakers suck? Fans are still willing to pay for that crap?
Lakers games have always been about people who want to be seen. Jack still goes. Rihanna still goes. It’s more of an LA culture thing with the Lakers. They all still believe it’s still Showtime, even though it won’t be again for a while…
Suckers! Tell them to go to the Ivy! I’m glad I don’t live in LA any longer.
Both of these games felt like turning points. Something about love playing through pain and Blatt getting opportunities to prove himself to the stars makes me feel like we could have a really effective homestand
i mean let’s not get carried away but we appear to have the pieces to our puzzle now if shrimp can find himself healthy. Jr smith is a dion upgrade. Mozgov has played effectively. We can play small ball with KLove if need be and match up big and long with Marion at the three and he at the 2. Honestly even tho we overpaid for Mozgov he could turn out to be a super important part of winning our first (and probably the only) playoff series. He doesn’t have qualms about doing the dirty work
Agreed. Dion always implied/complained he was not being used enough and wanted to be the focal point of the offense. Smith has made a career out of being a role player – a shooting 6 man. Mozgov seems happy to be on a contender and mentioned feeling appreciated at what the cavs had to give up to get him. He does the “dirty work” and I’d be surprised if he will ever complain about not getting his touches.
It’s premature, but I definitely feel a lot more confident that there is a meaningful path forward this season if everybody gets on the same page.
The inbounds play from LeBron to TT with about 40 seconds left, when LeBron pointed to Blatt to give him some love for drawing it up, could turn out to be a big moment in the season.Hopefully it means he’s getting on board with the coach. At the very least it will provide fodder for the next 48 hours of “As the Cavs Turn.”
yeah that was the play of the season imo
that was sweet. Looked like LeBron passed at the 4.9 second mark of the 5 count. I’ll take it.
HELL YES. What a huge win.
I’ll nitpick on The ISO’s. The ISO’s in the last 5 minutes are a path to defeat. The plays where we scored were the semi-broken plays that resulted in the ball being passed – like the kyrie jumper with 2 minutes to go. The ISO’s simply do not work. Why do Lebron (mainly) and Kyrie insist on running them?
Agreed. Feel like this game might teach the Cavs to trust their teammates.
I’m trying not to be a grump but yeah, I wouldn’t say tonight was a blueprint to 60 wins a year or anything.
Not execution wise, that’s for sure, but for actualy playing hard for 48 minutes, and grinding out a win? Yes.
Yes! I haven’t seen Lebron play with this much fire all season. Nice to see him get passionate on the court in a Cavs uniform.
I honestly thought they had no chance to beat a rested Clips team on the second night of a back to back, last game of grueling road trip etc. Good for them.
Quietest 37 point game I’ve ever seen in my life. Irving was a silent assassin. You know he wasn’t pumped about lebron’ chucking…he kept right on taking his opportunities and put up 37 on 18 shots. So nice
LeBron and Kyrie were both feeling it at the same time at one point. Throw in a little JR…
Agreed. I wonder how close the final minutes would have been if LeBron let Kyrie be involved…
Kyrie was the man!!! TT was also great. Mark Jackson was sucking up to LBJ trying to get the gig.
What an ugly second half of basketball!
It’s all beautiful! Come on! A win against the Clippers in their house on a back to back without Love!
A win is good, no doubt. But, that was one of the more difficult halves to watch, basketball wise, in a long time. Normally I see the cavs getting blown out and watch something else, tonight I was forced to watch because both teams looked downright awful, hence the cavs actually having a chance to win.
The third quarter was awful. The Cavs played about as bad as you can offensively. The fourth had its moments.
I’d rather an ugly win than a beautiful loss. the Cavs needed a gritty win An ugly knockdown, drag-out fight will help this team come playoff time. A pretty win just wouldn’t be Cleveland’s style.
Ugh. I so want to watch the ESPN feed and write about Mark Jackson, but sadly, ESPN rules preclude us.
Haha… I know what you would say!
Great win. Let’s hope the Cavs can build off this win. A win streak will help a lot.
EVIL KARMAS GONNA GET YOU CLIPPERS!!
Can you attend all the games?
I went to 6 games this year. They won 5 of them. The only one they whiffed was NYE when they were without Bron and Love.
Delly you redeemed yourself
Clutch free throws. Confidence builder for him.
OK, I am going to nitpick. They really could do a better job closing out games. Yesterday too.
But I’ll take the wins every time. Great win for Cavs!
I agree but want to enjoy the win against a decent team, bring it home CAVS
Delly Time!
Delly says: Take that, Mark Jackson!
Sweaty palms time
That would be a creative interpretation of a clear path foul. No way was Delly going to win a race to the basket.
Are you joking right now!?
Who is worse delay or blatt
Marion you suuuuccckkk!
Delly hitting the first was probably a big relief for him good for him
LBJ was at the center of that last huddle for the record
That is good news thanks Evil get out of there safely
Yeah what is up with that dude? Does he just read rumors all day?
I am the biggest nitpicker here probably, but this was a really positive game all around.
Mark Jackson is picking at every scab he can.
Like?
He had to bring up Delly’s missed free throws against Philly when Delly was going to the line.
In the words of Vincent Vega, “I don’t know if that was a $15 million dollar finish, but that was a pretty good frickin’ finish.”
Let me never speak of Ed Davis again.
That will give people something to talk about–the play plus LeBron giving Blatt some love.
Btw…Tristan definitely read the blog and got pissed about being compared to those duds ya’ll love
Great finish!
Why aren’t jr and moz in the game????
So smart to have Lebron pass it in
NOW THAT WAS A GREAT CALL!!!!
Or a great read by LBJ. Either way it SHUT THIS CROWD UP!!
Definitely a drawn up play the way that TT rolled.
WHAT A GREAT PASS!
I think pick and roll with a pass to Mozgov and an immediate kick to Kyrie in the corner will do the trick
The way Irving is shooting I hope they run something for him since Clippers will probably be thinking Lebron
Good time out by Blatt (assuming he can call a good play out of it that team will actually execute)
Of course no break from refs lets do this GO CAVS
Wow. It looked like it was just coming off Marion’s hand. Tough reversal.
Wow. Still a great play by Delly.
Ugh! It really looked like he got it off in time
“Marion with the dagger” . . . there are some words I didn’t expect to be stringing together tonight.
LeBron passes! Good things happen!
They will probably overturn that
Just like Blatt call it lol.
This is the best game they have coached/played in a month. Maybe all season.
