Sorry about the late post on the live thread, guys. We might have to start them all at halftime, though, cause it’s currently 75-40, with the Cavs shooting 61% to the Hornets 41%. In addition, Cleveland is outrebounding Charlotte 30-17. Keep it up, Cavs! THIS IS CLEVELAND!
Man that was something.
I’m wondering about sliding JR to the bench with Shumpert back and putting him the 6th man role now. When we got him it seemed like the natural thing to do, but he has looked very good with the starters, LeBron especially (they have traded crazy alley oops, except of course LeBron made his.)
At this point I think JR should start and then head to the bench early so he can come back in when LeBron is resting.
Agree with this. The last thing you want to do is disrupt “good JR” and the contributions he’s been making. That half-court alley-oop he threw to LBJ last night was electric!
I think that is a good point. I was penciling out some possible rotations earlier today. I am tempted to keep the same starting lineup, and take JRS and KL out early, then bring them back for first a KI break, then a LBJ break. This way there is always lots of firepower on the floor.
“Never had such a good time in my life before”. I watched the game twice now and all I do is smile, laugh, fist pump, praise the trades, text friends and enemies and just plain enjoy the progress. This team has lots of talent that we all knew and it clicking in so many ways. I must say watching the bench cheer and celebrate during this game was such pleasant sight. Shump’s first game was such a promising one, watching his movement and intensity on the defense end was exciting. Thinking about his assignments that he might face in the… Read more »
I’m glad Thompson did that at Oracle – that’s something those fans will cherish for a lifetime. “I was at the Klay game”
Man that kid is special. I think even more impressive than the amount of points was the fact that he DID NOT miss a single shot! Dude was 13-13 including 9-9 from three and 2-2 from line… just never seen anything like it
Any time Klay Thompson scores 37 points in a quarter the Cavs win by 39.
Am I hearing this right? Klay Thompson had 37 points in one quarter…..
Yes, amazing but true! I’ve never seen anything like it, even Kobe’s 81
Well GS was smart not trading Klay for Love. No denying that!
For anyone with League Pass, the game is being replayed several times through tomorrow afternoon.
Gotta admit it – my hat’s off to Griffin. Well done.
I’m glad he was willing to trade two #1’s for Mozgov . . . and that he chased Mozgov instead of Koufas. I appreciate the assets Grant acquired and some things he did, but he had to win every trade. Griffin went out and paid the price to get what it took to make this team whole.
Gotta give it up for Cols, whose faith never wavered. Mine wavered plenty.
This season is starting to remind me of the “sports books for kids” I read when I was a kid. The J.R. Smith character, the trades, …
How do the two recent trades look compared to the ones Ferry floundered with in LeBron’s first tour?
Obviously better. Its harder to trade with a strapped cap and a guy who is walking out the door then the other way around. And give props to Cols for blind faith but there were a few others of us with our heads up when the streak hit 6. Ross and Underdog to name a few.
Agree, agree, and agree. While some were pointing out how things could turn around, Cols was chanting it like a mantra. You know how baseball fans turn their caps backwards to try to get a rally? Cavs cans can just listen to Cols!
I was at the game. The first six minutes of the second quarter was pure bliss. Like a giant party. Unreal.
No offense to bill Simmons but his trade value post confirms that he has lost his edge. Not only has he proven he has not watched basketball objectively but he might be apart of the national media that the guys reject in post game interviews. I don’t think love is playing to his potential but every team would low ball the cavs and take love in a heartbeat and laugh after their coup.
Take the team we have tonight and then add a Love that hits 12 points from 3 point range and 12 points from inside. That’s a team that can take you to a championship series . . . and beyond.
Hornet fans talking about Jefferson playing lousy D and not getting his hands up:
I second that. I didn’t see him get his hands over his head on defense.

we should put the icy hot on his armpits
2014 RoF Tournament Challenge Guessing Champion
Dude had 3 blocks. He looked deflated so I think he just wanted it to end. Clifford had a few starters in late right? No vonleh either.
Right. Impressive observation C6H12O6.
Now that is a new name for me. Gracias mi amigo.

@CBSSportsNBA: The final score at MSG: NYK 113, ORL 106. The New York Knickerbockers basketball team has won three games in a row!
Look what happened after they traded JR. and Shump!
And Carmelo only played 42 minutes since he doesn’t know the meaning of the word “tank”
Hornets thread gets a little better 50 comments in:
Unbelievable how the Cavs assembled so much talent so quickly around James
They could be a juggernaut by years end.

they are loaded as hell.
I mean absolutely stacked at every position.
Even their bench is loaded.
That f****** Denver bs …..lol. What did they get for giving up Mozgov?
National media skewered the cavs and this hornet fan base gives us the benefit of the doubt. They would
Love cols.
This is beautiful. Haha.
I’ll ask again. Anyone interested in helping recap? Pick a quarter?
Crickets… :)
I would offer but I came in late and only half watched it because my kids made a massive fort basketball hoop contraption with the couch and chair cushions.
1st quarter and 2nd quarter, it was all about the defense, especially Kyrie… Also Blatt’s substitutions were all on point. I thought he made a mistake bringing in Shumpert before Delly, but everything Blatt did worked. Delly is a key player on this team, anyone who says differently just isn’t paying attention. Delly got open 3s for both JR and Shumpert and an alley oop for Mozgov that was beautiful, and he just plays hard on the defensive end, bringing energy that sustained us tonight. Love’s defense and overall game tonight was a turning point. He had an open 3… Read more »
Sorry, I also forgot to say, the only thing left to develop on offense is more post/elbow touches for Love… They don’t utilize Love enough in the post/elbow especially when the game slows down. I’ve noticed that they’ve been running plays to get Love a post touch, but Charlotte adjusted and started double teaming Love off the action and denying him the ball.
Lebron has been posting up more frequently, and that’s a good thing. The fact that we can dump the ball to Lebron or Love in the post/elbow is a huge asset when the game slows down.
Happy to help, although I sadly didn’t DVR the game and while I remember certain plays, I’m not sure if I could string a quarter of action together from memory
It was just one long awesome jailbreak from the start, filled with MozDunks, JR bombs, LBJ dimes, Kyrie magic, TT blocks and a Shumpert sighting…
Good eough!
I’ll take a shot at the first quarter if you want
OK. Just email it to me. Don’t kill yourself. And Thanks!
I also managed to salvage the entire second half on my DVR live feed, so I’ll throw in some of that as well…
I don’t have a DVR (geezer alert!), but the JR half-court lob to LeBron for a 60-27 lead with 4 or 5 minutes left in the second quarter was probably the earliest dagger in NBA history.
Here it is: http://www.sbnation.com/nba/2015/1/23/7880431/j-r-smith-finds-lebron-james-for-a-half-court-alley-oop
Notice that Love can put his hands up to celebrate the basket without falling over.
Ok. Here it is – Charlotte’s game thread . . .
http://www.atthehive.com/2015/1/23/7880105/charlotte-hornets-at-cleveland-cavaliers-gamethread
Not a good read. 75% of the comments are complaining about the refs. Not a word about how Cavs or Hornet players are playing. Maybe there’s another thread.
Well, I’m sure the Cavs got some calls early. But it snowballs into: WTF is Clifford doing?
Have to give him credit, J.R. Smith has really practiced his cliches.
And his three point shooting. I keep waiting for an off-game from him… I hope I keep waiting for a long time…
He said they partied a lot in NY. That there’s no place to party in Cleveland. And that that’s a good thing.
Hey everyone. Evil Genius just invited us all to watch the Super Bowl at his house.
If you feel like flying to LA, you’re more than welcome to ;)
It makes me sort of sad that the two spokesmen for Mr. Hero are a displaced Bryan Hoyer and an injured Andy V.
The local commercials are still awesome though. Do you get Tim Mizney out there?
Not that I’ve seen yet, but I’ll look for him
Oh, you’d know if you did. He looks like Danny Ferry in pinstripes.
Oh wait! The trial lawyer guy?
Yeah.
Yes, both him and the two old brothers who share a hairpiece
That chump and the elk and elk or Kevin Kurgis ones are brutal.
I STILL love the Conrads commercials. My wife always mimics the whisper-shout “caaaahnn-raaaaaaddss” when she hears it.
The Toupe on Elk & Elk are my favorites.
Yes, the Elk and Elk gruesome twosome! Those guys are crazy weird!
My oldest is afraid of the guy with the comb over. He thinks he is master Xandred from the samurai Rangers series because of their voice inflection
Looks like some Browns and Indians players were at the game tonight.
Awesome win, glad to share it with you guys.
+1 Dave! Just an awesome spectacle from start to finish!
I expect more effort from our second team. They played like they were tired late in the quarter.
Time to find a Hornets blog to find out everything that’s wrong with the world.
AWESOME WIN! WAY TO GO CAVS!
Wow. What a great crowd. Still packed. Everyone knew Haywood hadn’t scored. Cheered him.
HAYWOOD SLAM! Headband Worn Yo!
Haywood finally got into the act.
4th time is a charm
Interesting that on both teams every available player but one has scored.
I guess Jeffrey Taylor isn’t suspended any longer after hitting his girl (allegedly)…
Jefferson’s in the game with 1:00 left?
So we’ll probably never do this again (John would kill us), but does anyone want to contribute to a commenter recap?
Happy to help, but not sure where to start on this one. It was just one long awesome jailbreak from the start, filled with MozDunks, JR bombs, LBJ dimes, Kyrie magic, TT blocks and a Shumpert sighting…
I vote for Arch Stanton. That guy cracks me up.
Nate, what the hell does the Dish play instead of Cavs at midnight? World Poker Tour?
Nothing. It’s just weird. They only show Cavs and bluejackets stuff. The way they handle their regional sports channels is stupid.
You should take your dish and use it as a sled like Chevy Chase in XMas Vacation.
McLeod singing Kyrie’s defensive praises.
Wiggins with a fairly rough game tonight too so far…
So much for the Haywood theory
Yeah, he looks rough out there
Pretty sure Blatt knew he was terrible after that pass that went 30 feet over everyone’s head.
That’s true. Well at least he’s using all of his fouls tonight…
I prefer Bootsy Collins’ Pinocchio Theory – “Don’t fake the funk or your nose will grow.”
Not a bad first game for Shump. 10 minutes, 3-3, 2-2 from three, 2 asst, 2 boards, 8 pts.
i can absolutely envision the van Gundy led Pistons taking out the Hawks in round one. That feels oddly likely
Maybe we deflated the balls before the game tonight. That’s the only explanation. Don’t tell anybody.
Elsewhere, Hawks pulling away from OKC for another win. Dion struggling at -17…
Check out his +/- since he got there. It hasn’t been pretty. Near worst on the team almost every game.
Big minutes single digit points for Dion the last 4 (so far)
man James Jones is ice cold from beyond the arc. Its kinda sad since that’s his only purpose
Every play needs to go through Haywood.
The lead is 49. When was the Cavs’ last 50-point win?
