Live Thread: Cavs vs Celtics

Brad Stevens, Isaiah Thomas, and the Celtics visit Cleveland tonight for the start of a back to back against the Cavs (they play again Sunday).
The last time the Celtics were in town, the Cavs held a lead of 39 points in the 3rd quarter. With the Cavs locking up the 2-seed, the outcome of this game is of little consequence for the Wine and Gold. However, the Celtics could be a 1st round playoff opponent, so this is a good chance for the Cavs to get a feel for them and establish an appropriate level of fear.
Kyrie Irving will not play tonight with an apparent hip injury.
Miami’s magic number for missing the playoffs is 1!!! Have fun fishing Wade!

Haven’t seen the game yet, but psyched that they played the bench and let the C’s stay in the 7th spot. Good to see Miller can get his shot going.
We’ll see who gets the day off on Sunday.
I don’t know why the surprise on the loss. Everyone expected this. These games are meaningless now the Cavs have won the Division and clinched the 2nd seed, Given that, of course they give a plethora of mins to the bench to get them ready. Why wouldn’t they? Also , Cavs in the drivers seat on the 7th and 8th seed . If Cavs win, Pacers in a position to get in the playoffs. It’s tricky ground since Celtics and Nets tied in the wins/losses.
That’s fun stuff for us fans to think about, but coaches and players can’t think that way. You take who you get in the First round. If you can’t beat whoever is the seven seed, you don’t deserve to be there in the first place. What troubles me is not the loss, its the lack of urgency during the game. whoever is out there. Don’t care if its the last five guys on the bench. The should be running the system, going all out on defense, looking for smart basketball. WHy can’t they think that way? To improve the bench at this point and rest starters. If that happens to wind up in a loss ; so be it. It’s all strategy and smart . Cavs have a proven record since the Jan trade, there is no need to panic. They’ve “Earned” this downtime in games to plan. I didn’t even watch this game, but am not at all worried about this loss. We saw how well they played in Feb/March when they had that brutal schedule – they’ve already proven that they are elite. Let’s just hope that everyone is healthy for the playoffs – this game means nothing.

This game meant nothing hard to get fired up when it is meaningless. Good minutes for bench players and nice to see Miller get some rythm and Marion back on the floor. They cared in the 3rd and it showd, no biggie tho in fact playing celtics in first round is ideal. Sleep good cavs fans

Hard to be positive about this game at all …
Based on what we have seen in this game it will take an heroic performance from LBJ and Kyrie to guide this Cavs team to the promise land.

I have said in many recent blogs about the so called ” hired hands ” JONES / MILLER / MARION ( and also PERKINS ) to be key players in the playoffs —-what I SEE FROM THE 1ST HALF we could be in trouble when it comes to bench strength—let’s see if we can regroup at halftime and come with a better effort / showing in the 2nd half

I think the Cavs need to give up one of their shooters and try to sign a good PG with good playmaking skills.
Delly is a decent spot up shooter but he can’t play make anything.

Bad form for a team that pretends to have championship aspirations. Rest is one thing. But you don’t see the Warriors mailing it in. They continue to work so their sets become habit. If this is the character of this team, they do not have a chance to win the finals. In fact, I’ll say it now: this team will NOT win the Finals this year, if they even make it.
Well Blatt and the Cavs coaching staff believe in playing just 8 deep so when he brings in the 9-12 rotation guys well you can see what happens.
They had 4 of their starting 5 and the fifth was a regular rotation player. They are just bombing away from three and giving up easy buckets. Either sit or try, but don’t play and not try.
The Cavs let these young teams hit first and now their confidence is sky high.
This is rough. Cavs achilles heel in the playoffs is going to be their depth. Really need the first 8 to be 100% healthy or they will get exploited.
