QUICKHIT – Cavs 101, Celtics 93
2015-04-26The Cavs swept the Celtics, but it wasn’t a fun game to watch. Olynyk ripped Love’s arm out of the socket, J.R. Smith clocked Jae Crowder, and Shumpert looked a bit woozy after banging his head. Everyone in Cavs Nation is concerned about Kevin Love’s health and whether or not J.R. Smith will be suspended.
LeBron, Kyrie, and Shumpert really took the Cavs home in the 4th quarter, after they had abandoned all semblance of an offense in the 2nd half. The Cavs led by double-digits almost the entire game and seemed to wrap the game up with a few minutes remaining. But the circus would not end, and after Isaiah Thomas illegally grabbed LeBron during an inbounds pass, followed by grabbing Kyrie Irving’s jersey that was reviewed but called “out on the Cavs”. The whole thing was nauseating. Sound off on your least favorite moment of the game.

Kevin Love: "I thought it was a bush-league play … I have no doubt in my mind that he did it on purpose"
— Dave McMenamin (@mcten) April 26, 2015
Listening to a doc on 92.3 and he thinks that the move that Olynyk inflicted was an MMA style move. He thinks it’s probably a lambral tear and it will probably require surgery in the offseason. He also thinks he could be back in 1-3 weeks but that shoulder could pop out again and he will probably be limited.
Ugh. That’s the worst part. Even if he can come back he’s not going to be his effective self for the duration. And it’s a tear he’s done. Screw it all. Screw it all.
This morning I’m feeling super depressed. I think the cold reality of things is that the chances of the Cavs winning a championship this year just took a major hit with the injury to Kevin Love. Like they went from 30% to 10%. It’s GSW’s world now. In order for the Cavs to win something improbably good is going to have to happen. Something like KLove’s injury magically healing in 4 weeks. Or Kyrie teleporting into the future and becoming unstoppable every game. Or JR and Shump becoming near-all-stars. Or LeBron getting 3 years younger. They could still win. But… Read more »
That was a dirty play. It was not remotely a basketball play. Olynyk sucks. Eph him. Eph that whole bunch of whiny bully Boston players. None of those guys can even start on a decent team. All they have is cheap shots.
Screw Brad Stevens too. What a total piece of crap loser. What did he tell his team “Guys we have no shot of winning and most of you aren’t going to be around by the time we get to be good so go out playing as dirty and rough as the refs will let you”
Ugh. Screw this.
The NBA should really be ashamed that they let this series play out this way. The Celtics were being overly physical and cheap shot-y for all of the games. I’m sure the Cavs complained about it but the refs let it go. The Cavs basically had no choice but to fight back. The sad thing is that this was not a series of equals. This was a series where one team had no shot at all to win. And by game 4 it was obviously over completely. Yet the refs allowed the Celtics to play like a bunch of whiny… Read more »
Cavs can beat the Bulls. What would hurt the most is if JR had to sit the first two HOME GAMES – which would be sure wins without Love. If it happens, we share some of the blame. Teams have to find a way to win despite adversity. I think this Love thing sets up an interesting narrative. We brought in guys like Champ, the Matrix, Perkins, and Mike Miller to help win a Championship. They’ve had their good games and helped at times – but haven’t been a factor. I think it would have been uncool if they all… Read more »
On another note, I wanted to see Perkins play more minutes anyway. A few games ago he got extended minutes and after he got into the flow he started making plays. He needs to be on the floor early on, rag dolling Noah. The Matrix’s skills have diminished, but I think he plays as smart a game as Love. He’s always disrupts offenses by being in the right place on defense. He, too, can push people around and grab rebounds. After he warms up he starts making plays on offense, too. Champ has had good games. He can put a… Read more »
Who TF is “champ”? You can’t just give guys random nicknames.
You mean like you did with “Leb”? Pot, meet kettle.
Cols –
Champ is JFJ.
JFJ is James Jones.
The Matrix is Shawn Marion
and so forth . . .
It’s been well documented that James Jones’ nickname (as much as I think it should be JFJ) is actually The Champ…
HOW IN THE WORLD SHOULD I KNOW THAT?!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
today sucks.
Cause your boy, Leb, says it all the time?
I just realized that it was Rose who got toasted to lose the the game vs the Bucks. Haha.
This Celtics team just went from having everybody’s respect to being known as dirty garbage. What a garbage move by a garbage team. I’m so angry right now.
You’re right. The Celts were on their way to being a respected and admired team. I think they lost all their shine. All of it.
I’d like to think you’re right. But the ABC broadcast yesterday was pushing the spunky underdogs narrative until the bitter end.
BTW, did anyone see what LBJ said about Crowder post-game? He basically said he is a stiff who just wanted to be physical.
So…. the truth, basically?
I live in Chicago, and my buddies here have zero faith in Bulls even with Love out. So we got that going for us…..
I live in Chicago too. Is there a place in downtown where Cavs fans are meeting up for the games?
You guys could always go to Colin McGowan’s pad…
Seriously, though, I spent about 6 months in Chicago in 2007, and the best place I found to meet up with Cavs fans back then was The Field House in Lincoln Park…
When I moved to Chicago was the first year Rose was out. The next season I bet one of my friends that Rose would injure his other knee within 20 games. He was so livid. Bulls fans are just waiting for Rose’s body to explode.Or, they’re celebrating way too much that a former MVP put up 30 points in a game.
Another Bulls loss would help. Would push the start time of the Bulls series to next Sunday.
Thinking Smith gets 2 games. No way was that hit the equivalent of MWP’s shot to Harden.
This is what Blatt gets paid to do. Time to adapt.
Ugh… not a good sign when we are comparing JR and Metta World Peace. The only solace I take is that, unlike Harden, Crowder was instigating, bullying and making illegal contact the whole series. JR seems like a guy who wants to do good, but can’t help himself when things start to get physical. I really want to root for him, and the whole idea of his “turn around.” I would like to see him be able to stay on the Cavs. I hate how this gives credit to everyone who said he was a ticking time bomb. …And of… Read more »
Here’s the best insight on whether it was intensional/unintentional

I agree with this guy. I doubt that olynyk really wanted to pop loves shoulder out, but it was absolutely reckless and clearly dangerous. The guy deserves to be suspended as much as smith does, for whatever good that’ll do.
When I first saw the JR hit on Crowder in real time, it didn’t look suspension worthy. But man, it looks really bad in slow mo. I think JR will get 1 game and hopefully we know today so Blatt and the staff can work their butts off to prepare for the Bulls. I think ‘Trix is the most capable of delivering something productive but Jones/Miller can get by guarding Dunleavy, Hinrich or even Mirotic. I would start one of those three and keep Iman coming off the bench. It’s gonna come down to our fringe players making shots, otherwise… Read more »
I still haven’t seen a picture shows shows how hard the contact was from JR. He was swinging backwards at waist height so they say that was clearly intentional to hit the face and deserves a long suspension. What if it had been JR who grabbed the smaller player arm of Thomas to slow him down and inadvertently pulled it out? Would they be calling for a lifetime ban on JR by now?

@SamAmicoFSO: Both sides of Cavs-Celtics series concerned with what they viewed as lack of consistency from refs. Felt it contributed to the chippiness.
