On Knicks rumors
2010-12-22– So the news of the day is that if the Knicks don’t land Carmelo at the trade deadline, they might be looking to move Eddy Curry’s expiring contract for two Cavs players, namely Daniel Gibson and Anderson Varejao. The way I see it, the only players the Knicks would be able to sweeten the pot with are Anthony Randolph and Andy Rautins.
I’m one of the biggest Anthony Randolph apologists in the world, but even I’d have trouble mustering any excitement for him at this point. He’s not a rookie, he’s a poor finisher inside, he’s in love with a mid-range jumper he can’t make, and he takes too many plays off on defense to be the game-changer he should be on that end. And he doesn’t play without the ball enough. There’s a 90% chance he’ll never be anywhere near as good as Varejao because he doesn’t realize how an energy big should play, a 5% chance he’ll make up for that with his skills and be about as good, a 4.9999 percent chance that he’ll put it together and be a key to the future, and a very small chance that he will evolve into the ultimate weapon and break zone defenses with his mind. Also, the team already has one J.J. Hickson. Although a Hickson/Randolph frontcourt would certainly be intriguing. But bad. I need to stop thinking about this.
As for Andy Rautins, I do not think he will get this team back to the NBA Finals.
Suffice it to say that I don’t love this deal, especially with the Cavs being a less-than-attractive free agency destination right now, the Knicks having no draft picks to speak of, and nobody knowing what free agency will look like next season. Until tomorrow.
The Knicks would absolutely have to add in Chandler and/or Fields in order to make this trade worth while for the Cavs. Because those players are quite possibly to valuable, chances of doing a deal with the Knicks is slim to none, because they just don’t have the draft picks to sweeten the pot in the Randolph deal.
Relax, everyone. This trade is too ridiculous to take seriously. If I am not mistaking, we can only use the trade exception this year. If there is nothing out there at the deadline, it wouldn’t be an awful thing to test out if Curry can still play when he isn’t in a D’antoni system. But I am talking last resort here.
Maybe they should just trade Curry for Pau Gasol-better track record of a ridiculous trade leading to a championship Or maybe the Cavs will thow in 2 draft picks to help the Knicks acquite Carmelo-sure why not. This is just ridiculous reporting by Chris Broussard to try to generate a little traffic on someone’s twitter account. and make themselves seem relevant.
problem: knicks have no draft picks to trade for about another 6 or 7 years.
If we trade those guys, it should be for draft picks at this point. But there’s also the lockout to worry about, so I’d say we should hold on to them for a while longer.
there is no reason for the cavs to just give boobie or andy away. both are fan favorites, are pretty solid and are under contract at a reasonable price for a few years. i am not saying either should be untouchable, but if anyone on the cavs should demand a premium it is those too. Eddy Curry + crap is not a premium. however, i could see Jamison for Curry+ as a viable trade.
so the knicks are interested in trading Curry for Andy and boobie? in other news, im interested in trading my gf for jessica alba.
It’s a pretty good deal for us but I don’t reckon the Cavs will go for it. If they do actually go for it and lose two of their key players it would probably mean (if thay have a shirt in ‘Curry’ size) he’s have to suit up, would be fun for the rest of the league to watch mind. We should probably forget about gutting our roster to get Melo mind, getting a big guy under the paint and a back up for Sugar Rey Felton would make us more competative.
NOOOOOOOOOOOOOO. I went to the Jazz game Monday and made a sign that said: “Please don’t trade Varejao or Boobie” then today this rumor springs up. The fans will be devastated and alienated if this happens. These players have been Cavs their entire careers and should be our only 2 untouchables (barring an offer a la godfather that we can’t refuse). Krolik, if you have a way to communicate with a front office source then we’d all love to know, just how out of touch are they? They know that the fans would PUKE at the thought of this deal,… Read more »
Well this is 100% horrid news. The heart that Andy and Boobie show every night is in another galaxy compared to these 2 bums. This trade not only removes the leaders of our team, but it makes us WORSE in the long run. I don’t see this happening.
So let’s get this straight. The Cavs are going to trade their two best, young, affordable players for an expiring contract and a 14th man? Why not try and clear cap space with Mo Williams or Jamison’s contract instead of Andy? When I look at this team, I see two guys I for sure want on it going forward; Boobie Gibson and Andy. Sessions could be a player if he learned to not dribble with his head down straight into the defense, and JJ could be a keeper if he actually learns the game to go along with his talents.… Read more »
if Gilbert did this, EVERYONE would be killing him. I think fans would be ok with the whole rebuilding plan if they got something in return, but Eddy Curry is nothing. The sad thing is that the Cavs would probably have him suit up and play.
Isn’t Curry’s destiny to sign w/ the Heat at some point? He’s supposedly boys with LeBron.
Cap space is useless to us. I see no reason for the Cavs to do this deal unless Gilbert wants to cut the salary eating into his bank account. But to be honest, what he saves he’ll probably lose on tickets next year without AV. If Gilbert is serious about contending / rebuilding then a better deal will come along for our two best players. AV and Gibson deserve to go to a good team but this moves probably only makes them 3rd/4th best in the East. What does everyone think to the rumour we turned down Al Jefferson for… Read more »
