2010-12-30“A rookie guard earned his first career start, a forward who was signed one day earlier drew significant playing time and the backup point guard was forced to be the aggressive scorer. But the Cavaliers’ old nemesis of shaky perimeter defense yielded another predictable result — a loss. This time it was a 101-92 stumble to the Charlotte Bobcats, a loss that was Cleveland’s fifth straight, the 15th in the past 16 games, and one that dropped the squad to 8-24.” [Jodie Valade]
“maybe we should focus on the quit-job we’re seeing from the current Cavs roster. It all started on December 2nd. Facing the Miami Heat and with the eyes of the nation upon them, the Cavs laid an ostrich-sized egg. Their record prior to the Heat game… 7-10. Since then it’s been an ugly 1-12.” [Cory Felegy]
“Trade Idea: Cavs send Mo Williams and Anderson Varejao for Andrew Bynum and Shannon Brown.” [Michael Curry]
“When Williams woke up in Charlotte on Wednesday, he could barely move his left leg, and the hip wouldn’t loosen up no matter what he did. Official diagnosis is a left hip flexor strain, and it might explain why Williams didn’t score after he had 14 points in the first quarter against the Magic on Tuesday.” [Jodie Valade]
On The Twitters
“Sources tell the Sun-Times that the Bulls will not likely add a “big name” SG. If trade is made, sites are still set on #CavsGibson/Parker.” [Scott Sargent]
“Once you look past all the rookie mistakes Manny Harris made last night you can see his potential. Needs to work on his ball handling.” [realcavsfans]
The Cavs have a chance* to be the first winners of 2011 tomorrow! Get Excited!
*I use this term very loosly
The Nupe couldn’t have said it better.
I would be ok with taking a shot on Bynum because if he can find his way back into form from a few years ago, he can be a very solid piece to build with, or a very expensive trade chip. Still, I’d rather get mid 1st round picks for a guy like Varejao, or at least a young rookie/sophmore player who has a ton of upside but is on a cheap contract, which Bynum isn’t.
The advantage of being on a lottery bound team with assets is that we don’t have to make any moves now and can wait on the ‘best’ deals. We have young athletic talent and guys that look attractive to other teams for depth, plus cap room and the TPE. All that adds up to a lot of options and the ability to wait for the best deals. Andy, Mo, AP, Boobie, JJ, and even Sessions have been linked to interest of other teams. Jamison is also a guy that will likely have a lot of attention from a fringe contender… Read more »
How much space do the cavs actually have? I heard Mary Boyer (I think) say that losing the quitness left us with 14.5 Million. Is that correct? I agree with @Carter. We don’t need a ton of changes for the sake of trading. We have picked up a lot of young, athletic talent and if we build correctly we can be a force again in 5 years time. If we can get our hands on another athletic SF who can score and play defense we will be on the right track. Also maybe a true center? Andy is the breakout… Read more »
I like that trade idea, actually. If Bynum didn’t get injured so much, I think he would be pretty dominant. He’s got some good skills, and he’s a young guy.
I love Varejao to pieces, but it just makes more sense for us to trade him, in my opinion. It’s for his own good, too– Andy deserves to win some rings.
Calm down, Cavs. You don’t need to force a trade. Worst comes to worst, we just finish out the season with a high pick – Don’t trade just to trade.
Cavs *shouldn’t* be the desperate ones though. Cavs have cap space and picks, and talented role players that other teams will want come the deadline. As long as the organization doesn’t have delusions of a playoff run, they can still end up on the winning side of plenty of trades for teams that are desperate for that “extra piece” for their playoff runs. We aren’t going to get anyone to build a team around, but that doesn’t mean we can’t take steps forward with any moves made.
If Cavs fans think we’re getting a lot from trades this year, you’re FOOLISH. We are the desperate ones.
what?! mo and andy for who?? thats a horrible deal, varejao would dominate bynum 9/10 times the way hes playing and mo holds this team together. This would be moving backwards
Bynum and Brown for two of the best assets the Cavs have? No thanks. Brown is just some guy and Bynum, while he has some talent, has been a walking injury whose production has never merited the hype he gets. If/when you trade those guys, you trade for young talent or lotto picks. Not just more of the same.
