Live Thread: Cavs vs Timberwolves
2016-01-25G’Day! These fit as a Mallee bull Cavs fans traveled over 10,000 miles to be in Cleveland for Australia day at the Q, and ended up getting to meet their countryman, Matthew Dellavedova. You may think they’re as mad as a meat-axe, but let’s hope that kind of good karma pervades the arena tonight as the Cavaliers celebrate the holiday that started on January 26th, 1788. A couple of CtB commenters and even a staffer are in the arena bringing the #CavsGoodKarma, too. Hope the lads stone the crows for you, mates.
In other news, the Cavs are saying all the right things about their commitment to pushing the pace. As Joe Vardon reported for Cleveland.com, ‘Bron is fully committed to coach Lue’s vision of moving the Cavs out of 27th place in speed of play in the NBA. Hopefully, no one chunders.
This is what coach wants to do and this is what we’re going to do. This isn’t a LeBron thing. I’m talking out of IQ of the game, but this is what coach wants to do, so this is what we’re going to do.
So here’s to these these new look Cavs going off like a frog in a sock for the Aussies watching down under. I’m going to click “post” now so I can listen to the Wombat address the crowd. May your chooks turn into emus and kick your dunny door down, Andrew Wiggins. In other words, Go Cavs.
Ah man, I love you Pop.

Pop: “I’m just glad my general manager wasn’t in the locker room. I might have gotten fired.”
Pop is the best!!!!!!!
Yo no way! That is amazing!!!!!!!!!!!!
He’s safe…the Spurs Spirit Animal is intact…
I have been a rabid NBA fan for 45 years. I have never seen anything like Curry. He is the best in the game by a wide margin right now. Most remarkably, nobody could have possibly expected this. He probably deserves the most improved player award. Last year, he wasn’t really the best player, just the best player on the best team. Now he consistently does things that no one has ever done before, or probably even dreamed of doing. Even as a Cavs fan, I appreciate greatness in others and he really is something to watch.
He is almost unbelievably good…not just a shooter, all facets of the game. Only an extremely biased observer would deny that.
DMC with 56 points tonight after scoring 48 Saturday. I’m thinking he’s off the trading block.
Now Speights is hitting threes? Ugh.
Warriors are a historically good team. Cavs have a drama Queen as their leader.
That is all there is.
Apparently they have a drama queen filled fan base
Well said. Comment of the night.
A realistic fan-base. One that sees past the fluff.
Or actually talks as nauseum about the fluff while real business gets done
Ok let’s keep supporting “business” being done on unstable foundations.
It seems like the Spurs just found an answer. Marjonovic shows how he can get boards and protect the rim. I bet we see more of him in the future (though Duncan will also play that role). There’s a reason that small ball has never dominated in the NBA. Height and size win. The Cavs are designed to win with a big interior. I think we have to find out how to beat small ball basketball with a big man protecting the rim and getting boards… and we have to grind it out, make it physical, and draw lots of… Read more »
Drawing fouls against the Warriors is a recipe for frustration. They just don’t get called
Cavs truly have a Long Long Way to go.
I just see too much streaky stuff for this to continue for 40 more games. Teams will start getting rough…How did this group lose to the Pistons by 20? Cuz they’re streaky. They have a higher high than most streaky shooters. There are ways to beat them.
Green didn’t play against the Pistons. Also, it’s hard to win every game, despite how the Warriors have looked this year…
For one, nobody has tried staying home all night and letting defenders single out curry, win or lose. The curry trap is so easily beaten now. We basically won two finals games playing box and 1 defense last year. I have seen no one try that this season.
Road games…playing 3 games in 4 nights….back to backs. All that will lead to some losses. Not really a recipe for beating a team like the Warriors.
108-19 with no losing streaks longer than two games (zero this season) and winning streaks of 24, 16, 12, 8 and 7 wins over the past season and a half is streaky all right. Winning streaky.
One word: Gillooly.
It seems like the Warriors play at an all out sprint all game. Up and down the floor. With or without the ball. And on D they get their hands in constantly and knock the ball away on help D (one would argue, especially after seeing replays, that many of these are actually fouls).
Either way, the NBA likes them; the refs like them, they play an exciting brand of basketball, and Curry is a better spokesperson for the league than LeBron now… plus, he’s a fresh face.
It just sucks being a Cleveland fan… but what else is new.
I don’t get depressed by this. I commend the Warriors for just consistently being the best. They have an unbelievable fire to dominate teams.
Yeah, as you said a while ago, they are the Show, they are the ’90s Bulls, they come out every night to destroy teams. If healthy, they are coasting to a championship.
I don’t believe that. I believe any team can be beaten. But if you don’t believe you can win, you’ve already lost.
I think the Spurs can beat them, but it would be an upset. Anyone else, it would be a monumental upset.
Okay people… this has been fun hanging with you… and yet fairly depressing to watch…
Until tomorrow!
Later EG……..
Yeah, think I am out too. Don’t think there is much else to learn from this massacre.
Good Night………. Think Australia Day Happy Thoughts
Okay I can’t watch anymore without drinking heavily.
Wow. These announcers are the worst.
These announcers are classic… worried that the Dubs are 20th in FT percentage… smh…
I wonder if Griffs house is haunted by spirits?
I seriously think he hears voices. ( The Goblin’s evil laughter who turns out to be Chris Grant) The weird stories of him hanging around the locker room observing. Is he rocking back and forth too? Yikes
I think the Spurs want to lose by just 33 to make us feel better.
Well then someone should tell them to stop, because it seems to be having a deflating effect on my spirit, karma, whatever lame term you want to call it. Actually I think destroying other peoples spirits is their specialty.
Perhaps a new life coach will help your connectedness…
The biggest conundrum from this is that I actually think the only way you beat these guys in 7 is exactly how we played them in the Finals last year. But that style of play is only one possible with heavy, intense, focused defense (i.e. no Irving or Love). Which means we might have had a better chance last year when we were injured than this year healthy.
I don’t think that Cavs finals team last year could touch them this year…GS is way better this year. Curry is better, Green is way better, even guys like Ezeli are better.
Another 4th where the Dubs will be sitting the starters…no idea why people think they are wearing themselves out…
Golden State has been ridiculously hot. It’s quite possible that Curry stops shooting AS well… he’s making circus shots at a 70% clip.
It’s also possible that Schumpert or Delly or Kyrie provide a better 1-1 matchup than anyone on the Spurs…
Well the Spurs getting blown out makes me feel less sad about the Cavs. We’ll sort of!
If Spurs lose by 40… Griff should have to hire Blatt back…
Yep, this is insane and pretty much ruins whatever basketball justification there was for firing Blatt.
It would be funny if Spurs hire Blatt as a matchup/lineup consultant against Warriors.
Are the Warriors up by almost 30?
Hilarious all the analyst thought Spurs would dominate. What I am seeing now is what I thought it would be. Their offense is so much greater than any other NBA’s team superior defense. I don’t think I have ever seen any team like them before.
I can’t help wondering does Gilbert still fire Blatt after seeing even a great Spurs team struggle in the same way the Cavs did? It just seems to put perspective on just how difficult it is to beat this Warriors team.
I don’t think there has ever been a team like them.
True, but that being said, this team wouldn’t work under 90s rules. Curry’s just too skinny. Or at least they’d work, but they’d be easier to defend.
I’m going to bed… this just makes me sad…
Had zero doubt that Curry three was swishing..
Steph with the yolo, because at this point why the f not?
That’s not yolo… that’s his version of a put-back…
Ha yeah, actually probably more accurate, sadly
So, you think Pop gets canned after this game?
No that is just dummies talking. Pop doesnt get fired after one game. He will only leave San Antonio on his own terms, regardless of what happens this year.
5 titles, come on….
This is just downright scary. Sheesh man these guys look more unbeatable than ever before…too many weapons…too much shooting, team defense…just absolutely everything
Their team spirit seems pretty good, too…
Welp, I really do not know what to say other than, are we sure we performed that horribly against the warriors considering the xmas day game and what they did to the bulls and are doing to the spurs?
The Spurs don’t seem very galvanized right now.
Or all that spiritually focused…
Actually I see more a lack of connectivity. I didn’t have to ask anyone either, it’s just apparent.
I think you’re right, Nate… this game might just cost Pop his job… /s
Seriously though, I could see Pop retiring after this year if they get swept by Dubs in WC Finals…
Then Blatt will take over the Spurs coaching gig.
Hah. He benched Duncan for a reason. Wanted an ace up his sleeve. Pop’s not retiring with the second best player in the league on his team.
Duncan wouldn’t have made a diff tonight… this is a slaughter…
Shooting almost 60% this late in the game against the Spurs.
They are exceptionally good at ISO ball…
Wasn’t the ball still in the cylinder when Ezeli batted it out? Refs have ceased to care…
Ezeli is almost as dirty as Draymond.
What you mistake as dirty play is actually called good defense. Explain that to Kevin Love.
This is crazy…
And when you’re losing by 20, why don’t you just beat him up?
Lord knows the Celtics did it to us…
Gonna need to hire the Bone Thugs to rough up some Warriors…
lol, good luck with that. these posers look like they couldnt even hurt 6th graders.
