Live Thread: Pelicans @ Cavs

Last October, tonight’s game could have been anticipated as a potential passing of the torch affair between the king of his generation, to the heir to the throne. Today, it appears to be anything but. The Cavs honeyLUEn appears to be on the rocks after a half-hearted win over the Pacers, followed by a pair of defeats at the hands of the Hornets and Celtics, both of whom, field vastly inferior and cheaper rosters, than the Cavs tax books boast.
The Pelicans seemed primed to ascend to the next level this season, but they’ve got their own brand of troubles, as their roster construction and coaching choice in Alvin Gentry have failed to accent the fortune they lucked into in hitting the Anthony Davis lottery. Their situation sounds like a tune we heard played on a saxophone years ago outside of The Q.
The Cavs could be without Matthew Dellavedova for a third straight game due to tightness in his hamstring, and hopefully the bench sob can muster something without him. I’m not panicking on the season being lost at all, but every day that passes we get closer to June. Hopefully the team can avoid the third quarter funk that has poisoned the past week. Let’s dish.
Lue said Butler was out of the All-Star game. Does Kevin make it?

This may sound as nitpicky, but Kyrie’s post game interviews with Allie Clifton seem underwhelming. Doesn’t seem to have any sort of urgency. Seems pretty comfortable and happy with where they are.
Tom better call the Wambulance with this comment!
Hypes:
– AV finally played and was impactful, he only had 2 points, but had 1 rebounds and was +8
– JR was awesome again. He had 6 3’s (6-16) and has the highest +/- of +20 on the Cavs
– Kyrie and LeBron finally found some 3-point range as they hit 5 of 14 from 3. Not great but a good step
Gripes:
– The Pelicans suck
– Ryan Anderson only had 6 points, usually he has 30 +
– Did I say the Pels suck?
AV had 10 rebounds not 1
Well thankfully the Cavs read the scouting report. Anderson only had two or three actual open shots he missed. Everything else was contested or he was run off the line. Having Tristan on him basically full time was a huge plus
It’s interesting because TT isn’t a great defender despite being able to switch like he has. He’s probably average.
It angers me how under appreciated JR is. Hate how he’s cast as a villain in the NBA. Complete BS!
I like AD, but he’s not as much of a difference maker as everyone thought. Who would you rather have Davis or Draymond? I might take Draymond, even though I hate him.
AD has had a disappointing year, and has had some injuries, but I take him over Green without thinking. Can’t teach or buy height.

Cavs need to play AV vs Draymond. I can see AV giving Draymond problems!

I think the Cavs have a better supporting cast than Russ and KD, and Eli as of today, I’d still take Lebron and Kyrie over Russ and kev. It’s a tight race though. I just trust lebron’s championships over Durant, and Kyrie can still get hot as heck.

AV and David Lee are guys that are pretty solid NBA players but can’t seem to get any playing time. Why is this?
Also, good for Norris Cole to retire his # at CSU. But that’s no reason to give him a career game.
The Pelicans suck! This was a nice win, as in they won a game on the schedule. But it didn’t prove crap.
I feel like everyone other than Ky/Bron were scared to drive the ball tonight. FT’s seem to be a consistent issue for us which is pretty disheartening.
OKC shows us why iso basketball STILL can’t work against the Warriors. KD and Russ is better than any 2 players we have and even though they came super close, team ball prevailed. It blows my mind how much more movement there is with the Warriors.
Really nice to see Andy playing. Mind boggling why he doesn’t play at all under either coach.
Good to see Kyrie hitting 3’s again. Much needed or he’s worthless.
I kind of hope the Panthers lose the SB, just so Steph loses something.

Props to OKC….Curry having a ‘bad’ game, and they have taken advantage, after getting in a deep hole early. Durant has looked unguardable.
Green just fouled Durant four separate times on a drive to the hoop. They called the foul on Barnes lol.

This Warriors team is the second best basketball team ever assembled after the original dream team. Or is that take too hot?
Way too hot. This team is specifically designed for success in the NBA at this moment. It’s very difficult to see them competing in the 1990s.

I mean, their TEAM shoots 43 percent from three. Team. Our best three point shooter shoots as good as their team. TEAM. That is a wtf fact.
Right now, at this precise point in the ’15/ ’16 season, I would bet the house on the Warriors beating the East All Star team in a best of 7.
Any team in the league would beat either one of the All Star teams, dude. But if the East All-Star team had two seasons to gel with a good coach, they would absolutely beat the Warriors.
Don’t think so, if the All Stars took it seriously. The All Star team isn’t just the starters, but the bench, which is way better than any team’s bench.
Defense would be the difference. About half the teams in the league tho…not all 30
I guess there’s room for argument, but they certainly wouldn’t beat any of the playoff teams in either conference. You can have all the talent you want, but if there’s no plays, no plans, and they’ve never played together before you’re done for.
But if the All-Star team were an actual team, with time to get a system in place, you could virtually guarantee two or three people catching NBA-Jam fire every single game. It’s like if you could have an entire team of max-deal players. There’s no competing with that.
I’ll just say that I would take the West All Stars over any East team….Green and Curry, plus KD etc…it would be ugly. If they took the game seriously. Plays or not.
This team doesn’t miss. It’s mind blowing. Truly GS is MonStars from Space Jam. Rest of us are Looney Tunes

GSW have lost four times in 49 games. It’s just hard to see them losing four times in a seven game series. Sigh.
I will be surprised if they don’t sweep or gentleman’s sweep their way to the title. Barring injury, of course. Lue was dead-on about that.

OKC doesn’t seem to have any depth.
Join me, EG, and accept that the Warriors are going to destroy everyone on their road to the title this year, barring major injury. I’m a lot more chill since I accepted that.
Nah… I’ll subscribe to the idea that they’ll probably beat a path to the Finals, but gotta hold out at least a hope for the chip…

Yeah, I’ll pull for that. I loved living there, but I’m glad I moved away from Oakland a couple years ago. Bay Area fans are cool, but I’d hate to live at the epicenter of all the Warrior hype right now.

So, Cavs halt downward spiral against a far weaker team. I guess that’s progress.
It did get dicey late third/early fourth. Anderson missed an open 3 in transition early in the fourth that would have made it a one-point game — and upped the pressure on the Cavs.
