The Cavs fell to the Nets less than a week ago in a game where LeBron James played MVP caliber ball. They have a chance to exact revenge tonight.

Last game against the Nets, the Cavs gave up 60 points in the paint, couldn’t stop penetration at all, and couldn’t hit a three-pointer. I’ll be looking for the Cavs to fix all those problems and more.

The Wine & Gold have had an issue playing 48 minutes of consistent basketball. Their defense and offense come and go by the quarter. Defensively, the Cavs must stick to the simple principals Tyronn Lue has laid down for them. Drop back on pick and rolls, contain penetration, and force the mid-range jumper.

Offensively, the Cavs need to play faster. They should be pushing the ball looking for every transition opportunity possible. And, if the game gets close in the final minutes, “they have got to pass the ball,” as Austin Carr would say. They revert to isolation basketball too much when games get tight.

I want to say I think the Cavs are going to blow the Nets out, but I’m hard pressed to right now. They routinely show they play down to the competition, and the King hasn’t been too happy about it. Tonight could be a LeBron, “I’m letting you guys figure it out on your own” performance.

If the Cavs win, they will tie their 53 wins of last season.

The Nets will be without Brook Lopez. Lopez is their leading scorer.
