The Cavs and Pistons met in a battle of the back end of the bench Wednesday night, as each team rested their key players in advance of their first round playoff matchup beginning this weekend.

The Cavs held out LeBron James, Kyrie Irving, Kevin Love and J.R. Smith. They also played without Iman Shumpert (knee), gave a token start to Tristan Thompson to keep his league-leading consecutive games played streak alive, and played Matthew Dellavedova just six minutes.

The Pistons sat Andre Drummond, Reggie Jackson, Kentavious Caldwell-Pope, Marcus Morris and Tobias Harris.

With neither team willing to show the other anything resembling what they’ll look like when the playoffs finally tip off, Cavs fans were treated to the Jordan McRae show and five extra minutes of regular season basketball.

McRae, who scored 36 points on 14-29 shooting, including 3-5 from three, nailed a three-pointer to send the game into overtime. In the extra frame, he had a chance to play the hero again, as he stepped to the line to attempt three free throws with the Cavs trailing 112-109. But McRae, 4-5 from the line until that point, sank just 1-3 of the freebies ending the game… and your 2015-16 Cavaliers regular season.

Newly-acquired Cavalier Dahntay Jones had 13 points, two blocks and a steal and Timofey Mozgov, seeing the most playing time he has all season, chipped in 14 points and 12 rebounds.

The Pistons won behind a balanced attack that was led by 20 points from Jodie Meeks.

The only take-away from this game is that the playoffs are finally here.

The full version of these two teams will play Game One of their Eastern Conference first round series Sunday at 3pm at The Q.
