Podcast Episode 101: Waiting for Mianto.
2016-05-10https://soundcloud.com/ctb-5/episode-101-waiting-for-mianto
Basketball hell is waiting while Miami and Toronto play an endless series of overtimes… On the heels of a Cavalier sweep of the Hawks, Nate Smith and EvilGenius discuss the series, the Cavs’ epic three point shooting, and the Cavs’ minutes distribution. We also take a peek in on the interminable and aesthetically unpleasant Toronto/Miami series. The ball that refuses to go in the basket in the picture seems the be a perfect symbol.
In addition, we talk about the news around the NBA, laugh at the the best (and worst) commercials of the playoffs, and look at the summer movie schedule. We’ve got another week of talking before the winner of the other Eastern Conference Semifinal shows up. If Mianto ever shows up.
Listen above, on Soundcloud, or on iTunes.
What a great pod , guys!!!! Just finally got to listen. For the record, I love Tina Fey. I guess I am their desired demographic. I don’t miss endless commercials, but it is a bit of a bummer having no idea what you guys are talking about. Living abroad has its pros and cons.
Did anyone notice Dion W’s team-high +18 (9 pts) in the win at SAS?
I noticed this
He actually played a decent game – showed some reservation on chucking up long 2s, was able to get in the lane and kick it out to KD/Westbrook without forcing a layup either. I was shocked at the lack of Saint Weirdo decisions.
As to why wasn’t there more Delly? I think (hope) there’s 2 things: 1) Kyrie honestly needs in-game practice and we’ve had that opportunity with Detroit and Atlanta. Delly/LeBron is more of a plug and play 2a) if it ain’t broke don’t fix it and 2b) Let teams sleep on loaded wombat and then bust it out again mid-game. Guarantee next Cavs opponent is worried about 3 point line. When it stops work then we bust out Delly and then they’re unprepared for that because it’s the opposite of the how they defend 3 point line
@Nate: the guy with the ridiculous Waiters styler overhead shot is Boozer maybe?
Jack Sikma!
So can Shump/Delly combo shut down Curry?
Shump/Delly/Irving/Dahntay. Whatever it takes to have fresh legs and 100% effort against Curry at all times.
Old and slow. Spurs are old and slow. I think OKC has a chance vs GSW.
Donovan has thoroughly our coached popovich.
Pop has been good. All he has is two great ISO players. That’s it. His team is old and slow, so there is not much he can do on O.
On D, they have been very good. Great scheme. They just aren’t scoring enough in crunch time because O very limited and predictable.
1) Warriors have to be loving this.
2) Another unfavorable 2-minute review coming for the officials.
I think GSW run the Spurs off the court. The thunder has a chance.
Agree with this. Spurs have had some great teams with extra gears. This Spurs team is a great regular season team that can’t take it to another level. Too old. Too much ISO. Not athletic enough. OKC, Ws, Cavs bad matchups for them.
I still thinks Ws roll either of these teams. Cavs/Ws will be epic.
Man OKC could pull this off…
Even with the sound muted on my TV, I can hear Dion’s “And one!” all the way in New Jersey.
Evil, I can’t give Kyrie a pass because of his minutes (though I agree he should play less). His no good, very bad stretch at the start of the fourth quarter Sunday came after he had a decent rest: 3:30 of game time plus the quarter break, so probably about 8 or 9 minutes of real time. He came in and the offense went bad for 5 minutes, until James, Love and JR returned.
Kyrie and the second unit are a dangerous combo. Sometimes it works, sometimes it unleashes Bad Kyrie.
Ha! You don’t have to give him a pass… but I’m okay to do so… Agree to disagree
You do realize if the West HAD to play more of the Eastern teams, it wouldn’t be as easy? There were only 3-4 teams that strong in the West. Eastern conference teams were more competitive. It would have been interesting to see Detroit and Golden State matched up in the 1st round & let’s see what happens with no Curry. They sure as hell would have gave them more fight than lame Rockets.
I think we’ll need Delly to play more minutes in order to beat GS. We have to play defense, and he can really disrupt a team defensively.
Also, Kyrie needs to play and shoot like he has been. If they give him an inch to shoot, let it rip.
No download button this week? :(
Oh! Sorry! Used a new upload method and it dropped the download permission. I just re-enabled. Let me know if you have any more issues.
No. Blatt should not get a ring. No. No no. Andy should not a get a ring.
Why would you (or anyone not part of the team) possibly care if they did or didn’t?
LeBron isn’t getting the calls because the refs have been horrible. He’s been going to the rim a ton. It’s not the jumpshooting.
The problem with rooting for OKC is that if they beat SAS, i don’t think they can beat GSW. But I do think the Spurs can beat the stupid Warriors.
My Finals opponents in rank of order I’d like to play them, OKC, then SAS, then GSW.
Kanter is a good post defender, he’s just awful at help defense. Sort of the anti-Delly.
Ibaka has been the huge disappointment for OKC. He’s been awful. Kanter has been good.
OKC is pretty good. I don’t know if they will beat SAS, but the idea that it wouldn’t be close it kind of crazy. It’s hard for the Spurs to score because Leonard is not a #1 option. He’s getting stymied by Dion freaking Waiters.
Aldridge is awesome though.
Also, Mason Plumlee stinks. He’s the main reason Portland can’t beat GSW.
Delly isn’t playing because Irving is playing awesome right now. There’s no other reason.
The Cavs relaxed a bit in game 4 because they own the Hawks and were up 3-0. There’s no reason to consider that luck or anything like that.
If we play Miao or Toronto we will win in 4 or 5 games.
Right now JR Smith is the number one priority to re-sign. 3/33 should do it.
Excited to listen to the ‘cast!
One quick note on GSW: they remain the major favorites, but I don’t understand why NBA fans are melting over last night’s game. They beat a 44 win team in OT. Steph shot 30% from deep. If they play that way against us, we win the series.
Of course, they can play much much better, but I seem to be in the minority of folks who took last night’s game as a great sign for us. GSW looked very beatable.
I loathe the hyperbole as much as anyone, but Curry was ridiculously good in that ot.
He started out looking like an RGIII injury waiting to happen. He ended up setting an NBA record for points in overtime. As a Cavs fan, I didn’t find that progression encouraging, except in the sense that if we’re going to beat them, we might as well beat them at their best so we get full credit.
Loved every bit of this cast.
Nate, you must have missed Cavs v Wizards back January. John Wall’s FT shot got stuck on the rim too.
“i didn’t really understand what they were trying to accomplish defensively” -Legler on Atlanta
Legler is an irrelevant front runner who never gives credit to Cleveland teams for anything.
Lol that is not true. He is a basketball analyst for ESPN and he and Carlesimo are probably the only objective voices they have. This quote is from a video in which he is praising the Cavs and how they picked Atlanta apart.
If the Cavs want any shot, whatsoever, they have to execute that game 3 fourth quarter defense for 48 minutes. It has to be absolutely incessant.
And K-Love can’t go 4-31 on two-point shots for freaking sakes. Cavs will not get the three point looks they got this series. Atlanta’s perimeter defense was just abysmal. Cavs have to rely on defense and attacking the paint.
The Hawks could not guard the perimeter because they committed to guarding the interior. That’s why the Cavs struggled more than usual around the rim. Even LeBron, who had been feasting on penetration for the last two months, did not get there nearly as often. So the Cavs burned them with threes. I believe the Cavs have a more unguardable system than GSW.
Lol the Cavs do not have a system. Far less one that is more un-guard-able than GSW.
Lol @ believeLAND. Do you even watch the games?
What do you even do with Curry? What do you even freaking do?
Hope he has 4 games when he doesn’t go absolutely insane.
If he plays like he did last night, we win the series. 30% from deep. Lots of misses. Barely beat a 44 win team that plays no defense. I’ll take it.
You Shump him!
