Live Thread: Cavs @ Raptors
2016-05-21This would be the game. If the Cavaliers are to complete the Eastern Conference sweep, they will need to be particularly focused in their first playoff game off American soil. The Raptors have been mostly horrible through the first two games of the Eastern Conference Finals, (or the Cavs have made them look horrible, either way) but the Drakes will likely come out firing in one last effort to salvage the lopsided series. The Cavaliers could be “feeling themselves” a little too much after winning 10 straight. The ball stopped ever so slightly in Game 2, but Kyrie Irving’s jumper and LeBron’s pinpoint passing hid the warts. Defensively, Cleveland was outstanding, but we all know that role players have a tendency to play better at home. The Raptors are 6-2 at home in these playoffs. If Kyle Lowry can continue his strong play in elimination games,(and this basically is one) and the Raptor bench can come through, the Cavs could finally say hello to the loss column.
Still, the Cavaliers have never looked so locked in on both sides of the sidelines. The Raptors will need everything to go their way to stop the Cavs from tying an NBA record with 11 consecutive wins to start the playoffs. Dwayne Casey would be wise to play Norman Powell more as the series goes forward. The Raptors have had no luck shutting down Irving in one-on-one. Powell is a good defender as a rookie and would add a jolt of athleticism and spirit to an occasionally laconic backcourt. Sound off.
You can’t play the same game plan like you did Pistons and Hawks. At least clog the paint, Lue!
If this isn’t proof for Mosgov, nothing is. Love and TT not cutting it.
The lead in to this thread was right on. I figured we’d get back in it during the third quarter and we almost did, but the shots wouldn’t fall. I have next to zero problem with the way this game went. The raps put their absolute best foot forward and we shot the worst we’ve ever shot in the big three era. I fully expect a beat down on Monday and then a series wrap in game five in Cleveland. There are a few schematics to clean up, but not much has changed for the outlook of this team except… Read more »
Here’s to hoping OKC wins tomorrow so I can feel better about this weekend.
Agree 100%, hope OKC comes out with Blood, they need to win, cant have GSW have the upperhand
Can’t freakin wait to see us respond on Monday. And can’t freakin wait to hear the east get called soft again by the media.
I like RJ just fine, but I’m pretty annoyed that he brought Lil’ Kev to this game rather than the real guy….that’s taking the joke a bit far…I think he brought Lil’ Ky, too…
Yeah, KLove went from the podium to the outhouse. Time to burn the Little Kev shirts.
D in second half was better. LBJ was great on Derozan. Love and Kyrie were ice cold.
It was not a terrible loss, as long as we can take some things out of it. Kyrie can’t play like 2001 Iverson every time he catches the ball. He made some tough shots the previous games and naturally he reverted to the mean today. Mostly, I hope this doesn’t completely rattle Love’s confidence. We need him and we need him assertive. The best thing is that Kyrie saw completely different looks by the Raptors defense. Let’s hope he watches film and figures out how to counter them, because GS is going to double him the hell up, if he… Read more »
Kyrie update: He just had the wind knocked out of him.
Good news. Irving had the wind knocked out of him both literally and figuratively, that’s for sure.
Wind? Naw. Maybe his ego got hurt as it should have….awful game. Some nights he scores a bunch but i think he is too soft…
Cavs got too complacent; believing their 70% effort could beat the Raptors ( while Raptors gave 110%) ; the BIGS for us played like girls tonight and rightfully sat in the fourth Q. Irving stunk up the place and not sure why he played so long (and got hurt). Delly can’t seem to hit any shots last two games and unimpressive as of late. Frye is great pick up more and more I love this man;
Of course we lose a game …about time but for tonigt, very poor effort overall
Eh, delly wasn’t hitting, but NO ONE was rolling to the basket.
Yeah, a lot of PnR’s devolved into isos.
Dan Gilbert needs the Cavs to play more home games to come even close to breaking even. The conspiracy is real.
I’m not mad about this loss. But I will be concern if the Cavs don’t win the next one.
Again if the Cavs can’t beat the Raptors at their gym waht would make us think that the Cavs will beat the Warriors at Oracle Arena.
Just chalk this up to a bad shooting night. Defense was good. Just couldn’t hit open shots.
I wanted 16-0. 15-1 will be nice. But 16-0’was historic.
Darn. No way Toronto wins another game.
I guess you meant 16-1
I think the rims in Toronto were measured out with the metric system. It would explain why Lowry could suddenly hit his shots and Kyrie suddenly couldn’t
Such lack of toughness amongst the bigs for the Cavs. Lebron cannot be happy right now.
Exactly and I believe that was the reason why Lue didn’t play TT and KLove in the 4th.
BB totally embarrassed Love and TT.
Irving sucked
Got to give credit to the Raptors. They came ready to play. Now we will see if the Cavs have what it takes to win it all.
If the Cavs can’t get a win in the road in this series what would make us think that the Cavs would get a win at Oracle.
Nothing makes me think that the Cavs can get a win at Oracle, if it comes to that…
Cavs held the Raptors to 39 in the second half but only scored 37 themselves. They shot 35% overall, 34% from three.
At least K Love is still undefeated in the playoffs. He didn’t play tonight, did he?
Ha!
This had me laughing, you can say the same for KLOVE too. Curious for the instarecap and post game conference
meant Kyrie too*
Hehe exactly.
Couple of outliers with our shooting outside of LBJ/JR/Frye and Biyombo’s rebounding… We were still in striking distance in the 4th.
Cavs in 5
Cavs are doing good this far, but let us be real, we brought Mo Williams back to Cleveland for a reason, to back up if not start along side Irving at times. If he is injured, let him rest as much as possible until the finals, which we should make it. Delli, is not a very good back up point guard, he is a good third guard and a relief player, he scored two points in the final game against the Warriors last year. We will not win the championship without Mo, if we do Lebron or Irving will average… Read more »
Are you serious man?
I don’t know you Coop, but I don’t think this comment is very well informed.
Actually Delly scored 1 point in the last game vs the Warriors the last game not 2 points.

I mean, you can regurgitate ESPN stats all you want, but Delly has done an awful lot for this team this season. Last season in the finals he was our only PG and played himself into exhaustion and the hospital. He never got time to recover from that ordeal. So no, he was not as effective. But seriously, pulling that windowed stat on this page doesn’t really cut it unless you’re Cols, which you aren’t. So try to use some perspective.
Dehydration actually, but otherwise you’re spot on, JMay. If it had been the regular season, Delly would have sat at least a game or two to recover. He clearly wasn’t himself the last 3 games of the Finals.
Where did you come from?
Please not a Nate recap. Dont need the Biyamboner :)
Oh, you’re in for worse.
Kyrie straight up sucked.
I’m impressed that coach Lue sat both TT and KLove for the whole 4th quarter.
I personally loved it that’s how show your guys they didn’t came ready to play tonight.
He shoulda sat Kyrie too, just have Bron, Delly, JR, Iman (or RJ), Frye. Everyone else sucked big time
Delly was awful as well.
But delly didn’t attempt 18 shots and made 3, allot were forced shots as well, knowing his shot was off too
how th f@ck did KI get injured?! Are you kidding me?!
And now something is wrong with Kyrie. Strained pec?
Probably shouldn’t have been out there at that time…hope it’s nothing…
30 points for Rapts bench, Cavs bench, 22 points
The Cavs’ first playoff game scoring less than 100…and they didn’t come close.
Nice win for the Raps. Hard to imagine holding the Cavs to 84 points. Expect them to bounce back.
This game makes me worry for the podcast…/s
This reminds me of one of those midseason games where, after demolishing a good team one night, the Cavs would come back and really play poorly the next, with very little to explain it.
I was thinking the same thing.
Lebron/JR/Frye 20-37 (54%), the rest of the team 7-40 which is 17.5%
The Cavs really looked slow on both sides of the floor.
Irving has just been turrible, just turrible…and Love wasn’t much better…
They put Biyombo on LeBron in the switch and it destroyed the offense. How can such a simple matchup destroy this team?
KI’s play tonight has made me look more fondly on Austin Rivers’ career…
I’ve lost quite a bit of respect from JVG this series…
How so ?
He’s just all over the place. His game calling goes with the wind.
I feel like his psychiatrist with all of his complaining.
Kyrie and Love need to be at air canada centre tomorrow just shooting
