Podcast Episode 103: Roadblocks or Speedbumps?

Nate Smith, Tom Pestak, and David Wood talk the week in Cavs: the Game 3 Loss, good and bad Kyrie, the Under-respected Raptors, the surprising Thunder, and the Cavalier adjustments. We check in on Tom’s many sales adventures, Nate waxes absurdist on the nature of basketball, and he has a reaction to the Biz that may require medical attention. As always, we can be found on above, on SoundCloud, or on iTunes.
Draymond will get his. I still think the Warriors win that series in 6, and I think we beat the living tar out of them in the finals. not by a lot of points, but in relatively few games. 5 or 6. And Jonas V doesn’t scare me. Kyrie and klove going 3 for 90 again scares me.
Draymond not suspended. NBA protecting their Golden Boys once again
My fears have arrived! Will Lue dust off Mosgov?
Who will be gimpier: Jonas or Delly? Hopefully Jonas…
No. Mozgov sucked
What’s our current rotation?
LeBron, Kyrie, Love, JR, TT, Shump, RJ, Frye, Delly? That’s pretty great.
I’d really like to see McRae get some run tonight. With Dahntay Jones suspended he will be dressed and although most of minutes in a Cavs uniform have been in garbage time he’s looked great. We’ve mostly been watching his offsense but he’s exactly the type of body that would be nice to throw against the Warriors at 6’5″ with lanky arms. Who knows maybe he could even bother Curry like KD has? We’ll never know until we try. I think continuing to dress James Jones over him is a mistake because even if he’s on he still is our… Read more »
No. We don’t need a rookie to get any play tonight.
It would be great to see McRae get some time, especially with Delly gimpy. If they need to go deep in the rotation in the Finals — due to injury or just to have fresh defenders against a much faster-moving, more athletic team than the Cavs have seen so far — it would be good if the bench guys weren’t shaking off two months of rust. I’d like to see McRae and Dahntay (when not suspended) get occasional minutes outside of garbage time.
I’m nervous about heading back to CLE 2-2
Why? Cavs are 10-1. There is nothing be nervous about.
Thats just how I roll.
By the way, what does the 714 stand for in your name?
Hope you appreciated the shout out in the pod, Jason. I blame you for my Bismackapism.
Haha I did thanks; my wife is a reader / listener as well she got a kick out of it too
It was funny. When you worried about the recap, I knew you were gonna get it worse. I’m pretty sure that Ben has bigger hardombo than I do.
HR
Changing gears here a little. I must say, I haven’t hated on Windhorst these last couple of months. He has actually been kinda of pleasant to listen to. More fair on Cavs coverage in a long long time. I thought I would NEVER say that. So Kudos to him! (I hope I don’t regret this) I’m glad he got away from Bill Simmons podcast. It was toxic to listen in Cavs Nation.
I don’t get the Windhorst hate. He’s been pretty consistent and I’ve always thought his criticism has always been fair.
On a lighter note, I’m surprised no one mentioned the inevitable Shaqin the Fool Play where TT backhanded Lebron which he went flying. It was funny
argument to not want to face OKC is their Bigs, their amazing length. Serge, KD, Adams, Canter. It’s like they are playing small ball with 7 footers that can run.
There are a lot of All Stars not getting foul calls these playoffs. Good Kyrie needs to get his ass back on defense. He should expect no calls so he doesn’t get all caught up in that nonsense. He needs to focus. Russell just keeps going. Be like him in that respect.
OKC will continue to stun.
K-Love has been really ineffective in the paint for the past seven games. If this is what happens to him against this level of competition (TOR/ATL), what will happen against Draymond/Ezeli or Adams/Ibaka. He will be eaten alive.
Nope. What happens this series has nothing to do with the next series.
Cols does not believe in causality.
I agree he’s been ineffective scoring in the paint, but he’s been quite good at rebounding in the paint (until last games embarrassment of lack of effort)
I kind of hope Green isn’t suspended. So the Warriors have no excuses if they lose.
Plus, I think he has already hit enough groins and officials this postseason that referees are going to start being less deferential to him.
He is making them look like chumps. They have to act from this point forward,
This got overshadowed by donkey-kick mania, but it was interesting that Lue said yesterday he should have called more plays in game 3 for LeBron. Barely any reading between the lines needed to understand he isn’t going to let Kyrie hijack a game like that again.

Yeah it kinda has. I am confident Love and Kyrie will play better. I am very worried at the Center position especially if Jonas comes back. ahhhhh
That would be nice. Not all on Kyrie as the d wasn’t good in the first half and the rebounding was terrible throughout, but he does have to know when to switch to a playmaking pass first pg.
Wait at the end Nate says it’s a make or miss League??!!!
Yes
It is. So it doesn’t even matter what players are on what teams, or how well anyone plays. It’s all make or miss. /shrug
Nope. Some players are better than others. That’s what matters. They are more often able to put the ball in the hoop.

You better spend those surplus dollars on a t-shirt printing press.
Put me in the panic group with the possibility of Jonas coming back tonight. I just don’t trust Tristan based on his history against him. Lue will have no choice but get Mosgov’s Big Body to clog paint if Cavs are still behind the 8 ball. But will he?
Mozgov and McRae are not things that need to happen Kyrie makes his shots they win.
Yewsh. You guys realize after they win tonight how awful this podcast is going to sound.
We can only hope.. Right?
Nates’s comment about the NBA making an example of Dahntay Jones was funny (along the lines of the old saw about the NCAA being so mad at Kentucky that they are throwing the book at Arkansas Central), but that suspension, happening when it did, is really going to be a boil on Silver’s ass. There is going to be a lot of national pressure to suspend Green. It’ll be
interesting to see what happens.
NBA has some egg on his face because they should have given him a flagrant 2.it would have solved the suspension problem. Now silver is screwed either way.
Accoding to Stein, leader in the media clubhouse is that Green will get a retroactive flagrant 2, but no suspension. So, in other words, the media belief is that he basically gets nothing. Because if he gets the retroactive 2, the refs will probably not give him another flagrant, as it would mean a suspension. He would have to assault a player or ref or coach with a weapon to get a flagrant.
Tom is so right, Green is the Golden Child, none of the rules apply to him.
I never actually hated the dude before or really other bball players except rick mahorn and bill lambier, but now I actually do after seeing that video. Dude could permanently harm someone with a kick that hard to the groin. I want him to have a season ending injury which kills his explosiveness for the rest of his career, something like an achilles tear or better yet both achilles. His reaction, the smiling, the arrogance, the complete disregard for possibly putting someone’s non-basketball related health at risk is insufferable.
That would be so wrong. You have to shut out the noise and just do the right thing. Draymond’s suspension is on him not the refs. To behave like this is a weak weak look. NFL wouldn’t think twice on a serial offender.
